Kim Kardashian Faces Legal Heat For Posting Wrong Man's Pic In Anti-Death Penalty Campaign

Last Updated: Kim Kardashian is sued by Ivan Cantu, a New York project manager, for using his photo in a 2024 Instagram post supporting a death row inmate with the same name. Kim Kardashian has found herself entangled in a fresh legal controversy, this time over a case of mistaken identity on social media. A man named Ivan Cantu, a New York-based project manager, has filed a lawsuit against the reality star, claiming she wrongly used his photo in a 2024 post supporting a death row inmate who shared the same name. According to US Weekly, the plaintiff alleges that the error has left him with post-traumatic stress disorder and sleepless nights. His image, he claims, was used in a high-profile Instagram story meant to advocate for another Ivan Cantu, an inmate convicted of murder in 2001. Kim had publicly supported the inmate's clemency efforts prior to his execution. Kim's legal team addressed the situation in detail, clarifying: '[Kim] played an important role in advocating for Mr. Cantu. Over the course of approximately ten days in February 2024, [Kim] and her team posted a series of 'stories' regarding Mr. Cantu — approximately 16 in all — on [Kim's] Instagram account. Of these 16 stories, one story posted two days before Mr. Cantu's execution mistakenly used an image of the plaintiff in this action, a New York-based project manager whose name is also Ivan Cantu. The mistake was discovered within hours of the posting, and the story was immediately deleted, with [Kim] swiftly issuing a public apology to [Ivan]." In her own declaration, Kim acknowledged the error, stating: 'The use of Plaintiff's image in the February 26 Story was a mistake and was not done intentionally. I would not have used the image appearing in the February 26 Story had I known that it was a picture of Plaintiff and not Mr. Cantu." Her attorneys have dismissed the lawsuit as opportunistic, saying, 'This lawsuit is an attempt to cash in on a mistake." The legal proceedings are still underway. Indians abducted in Mali: Victim family claims Al-Qaida-linked ‘terrorists demanding ransom' in exchange for hostages

A relative of an Indian national abducted by an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group in West Africa's Mali claimed that terrorists are demanding ransom in exchange for the people. P Venkataraman, a resident of Odisha's Ganjam district, is among the three Indians abducted by an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group in West Africa's Mali. Venkataraman's brother-in-law told news agency ANI his family had got a call from the company where Venkataraman worked in Mali. The brother-in-law said, "We got a call from the company that he and some others are in police custody as terrorists have set the factory on fire. An international news claimed that Al-Qaeda had kidnapped some people.' 'We called the company to confirm this, and they refused us to leak this information and said that the terrorists are demanding ransom in exchange for the people," he was quoted by ANI as saying. Venkataraman's brother-in-law further informed that his family complained to the police after waiting for a few days. 'I called and mailed the embassy, but did not get any response. I demand that my brother-in-law be brought back home safely," he said. The brother-in-law said on Saturday that Venkat had last called him on June 30. 'He [Venkataraman] worked in a cement factory in Mali, West Africa. He said his company had stopped them from going out as terrorists were present. This kidnapping incident happened on July 1,' Venkataraman's relative said. Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed deep concern over the abduction of three Indian workers from a factory in Mali's Kayes region and urged authorities in the West African country to ensure their "safe and expeditious" rescue. "It has come to the knowledge of the Government of India that many military and government installations at multiple locations of western and central Mali were attacked by terrorists on July 1," the MEA said in a statement on Wednesday.
