Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Hikes Journalists Pension To ₹15K, Dependents ₹10K
In a tweet shared, Chief Minister stated that the state government has issued instructions to the concerned department to raise the monthly pension amount for eligible retired journalists from ₹6,000 to ₹15,000. This move aims to ensure a more dignified post-retirement life for journalists who have spent their careers serving the public through the media.

Additionally, in a compassionate gesture, Nitish Kumar also declared an increase in the pension given to the dependent spouses of deceased journalists. Under the revised Bihar Journalist Honor Pension Scheme, the pension amount for spouses has been increased from ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 per month, to be provided for their entire lifetime.
Highlighting the importance of the press in democratic governance, Chief Minister stated, 'Journalists play a crucial role in democracy. They are the fourth pillar of democracy and have a significant role in social development.' He further added that the state government has consistently prioritized the well-being and working conditions of journalists so they can pursue their profession with impartiality and integrity, and retire with respect.
The announcement has been welcomed by journalist associations and media professionals across Bihar, who have long advocated for better financial support and recognition of their service. The move is expected to provide much-needed financial security to senior journalists and the families of those who passed away in service or post-retirement.
This decision aligns with the Bihar government's broader efforts to support key democratic institutions and individuals who contribute to nation-building. CM promises relief from waterlogging
1 2 Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday laid the foundation for the construction of roads over two major drains in Patna — the Kurji drain (also known as the Rajiv Nagar drain), with an estimated cost of Rs 181 crore, and the Anandpuri Drain, costing Rs 91 crore. The ceremonies took place near Rajiv Nagar on the Ashiana-Digha Road and near Rajapur Pul, respectively. "I am happy the urban development and housing department has initiated these important works. Once completed, they will resolve waterlogging and provide smooth traffic movement through the construction of two- and four-lane roads over the drains. The city will also look cleaner and more organised," the CM said. Following the events, the CM inspected both sites and called for their timely completion. He added that the drains would be strengthened and roads built over them. Locals welcomed Nitish enthusiastically and expressed appreciation for the initiatives. The Anandpuri drain, stretching 4.05km from Baba Chowk to the Rajapur Pul drainage pumping station, channels water from four wards, including Baba Chowk, Shivpuri, Patel Nagar, Rajvanshi Nagar, Boring Road and Anandpuri. The project includes a new drain structure and road construction across 2.61km and 0.96km on Indira Sinha Path. Precast manhole covers and trash racks will be used to aid maintenance. At present, the drain from Baba Chowk to Atal Path is unlined with a damaged 12-foot road running along one side. Once completed, the project is expected to ease monsoon flooding and improve traffic flow with a two-lane road atop the drain box, along with street lighting and beautification. Similarly, the Kurji drain, approximately 4.26km long, runs from the Digha drainage pumping station to Ashiana Road in Kurji. A central load-bearing drain and a four-lane road will be constructed over it, supported by street lighting, precast manholes, and trash racks. The project aims to significantly enhance both drainage and traffic infrastructure in the area. The BJP reacted furiously over Aiyar for aligning with Pakistani propaganda. 'Maybe the grand old Congress party does not know that the monitoring panel of the United Nations Security Council has raised concerns over the role of the TRF, which is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in the attack," said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla. 'Maybe Congress does not know that the birth of terrorism took place in Pakistan, be it LeT or JeM, whose camps we destroyed in Operation Sindoor. JD(U) begins women outreach drive
After the BJP, its alliance partner JD(U)'s women's wing has launched an intensive public outreach campaign — from the state to the booth level — to connect with the state's women voters as the assembly polls in the state are drawing near. JD(U) begins women outreach drive Women form nearly 48% of the total voting population. As against BJP's women outreach plan aimed at covering 120 assembly segments in first phase, the JD(U) has started its campaign to reach out to women across the state and in all constituencies simultaneously. The party held an important meeting of women leaders recently in which state party president Umesh Kushwaha held a detailed discussion keeping the goal of '225 seats in 2025 and Nitish again' at the centre. 'A strategy was decided to strengthen the organisation, ensure active participation of women workers and accelerate the work of the party at the grassroots level. It was also decided that the women's unit of JD(U) will run an extensive public relations campaign and will take the welfare schemes and developmental achievements of the government to the people,' said Kushwaha. 'Under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, Bihar has witnessed transformative initiatives aimed at women empowerment, bringing remarkable changes to their lives. Landmark measures such as free education for girls from KG to post-graduation, prohibition of alcohol, free bicycles for school-going girls, 35% reservation for women in government jobs, and 50% reservation in panchayat elections have significantly uplifted the status of women across the state,' said Anupriya Yadav, JD(U) state spokesperson. The JD (U) does not want to leave these achievements and works go unnoticed. 'To further spread awareness of these achievements, the women's wing of JD(U) has launched a campaign wherein female party workers will visit every district, engaging women through community talks, door-to-door visits, and seminars. This outreach aims to ensure that the positive impact of CM Nitish Kumar's policies is communicated effectively, inspiring more women to take advantage of these opportunities. Such initiatives not only showcase progressive governance but also pave the way for a more inclusive and empowered Bihar,' said Anupriya Yadav. The JD(U) feels that Kumar's contribution to the welfare and upliftment of women is unmatched in any other state of the country. Earlier, Kumar himself, in a bid to reach out to women voters, had launched 'Mahila Samvad Rath' under which JD(U) workers visited different districts of Bihar and inform women about the efforts made by the Nitish government to uplift their socio-economic condition. The campaign also highlighted the schemes related to women's empowerment, employment, and education. The Nitish government is also relying heavily on the members of the 10.75 lakh women self-help groups (SHGs) to 'act as a link' between the JD(U) and women voters, a party leader said, adding that 'women are the political force of the JD(U)'. 'Though the women voters are not taken seriously by parties, they have turned out to be the decisive voters in the recent Bihar Assembly elections 2020. This was the third time consecutively when women had outnumbered the men voters. In three phases of Bihar elections, women voters' turnout increased consistently from the first phase to the third phase. In the first phase, they voted 5% more than men, in the second phase 6%, and in the third phase, they outnumbered men by 11% benefitting NDA the most,' said Gyananendra Yadav, associate professor of Sociology, College of Commerce, Patna.
