Tributes paid to 15-year-old who drowned in Laytown, Co Meath
The boy has been named locally as Kofi Owusu, from the Blackrock area of Dundalk, Co Louth.
It's understood that he had jumped into the river with a number of other children from the footbridge in Laytown when he got into difficulty in the river.
The principal of Coláiste Chú Chulainn in Dundalk, Thomas Sharkey, said that the school is heartbroken over the loss of Kofi.
He told RTÉ News Kofi was a 'fine young man, very kind, a very caring and a very diligent student.'
Sharkey added that supports will be put in place for students and staff within the school community at this difficult time.
The school posted a statement to social media which said that Kofi was a 'very caring young man with a wide circle of friends' and an 'accomplished sportsman'.
Kofi had recently played in an All-Ireland basketball final and in a Leinster soccer final in his age group of under-16.
He had finished his Junior Cert exams just ten days ago.

Junior Minister Thomas Byrne has said he was devastated to hear of Kofi's death.
'My heart goes out to his family, friends, all those who were around Laytown tonight, and all who are grieving.
'A summer moment has turned into an incalculable loss.
'Thank you to the Coast Guard teams, emergency services, and local volunteers who responded.
'Please respect the family's privacy and Gardai have asked to avoid sharing any images or details online,' he said.

that the community is in shock following the tragic incident.
'Kids jump off that bridge every year, and I suppose no group thinks the worst is going to happen, and yesterday it did. Someone had actually raised safety concerns about jumping off the bridge during the week in the town, and now this has happened three days later, it is just awful.
'Everyone is thinking about the boy's friends and family at this terrible time.
'We need more affordable access to swimming lessons, and better water safety education through schools so children know what to do when it comes to public waterways, and also what the best thing to do is if someone you are with gets into difficulty, or if you yourself get into difficulty. There is basic knowledge there that we need to share, because it saves lives.
'Unfortunately in this case it's too late. This was a tragic, awful accident and support will be needed for the other boys who were there and witnessed this, who have lost their friend and been through something traumatic,' she said.

Woman reports being forced to remove hijab at protest camp outside of refugee centre in Wicklow
GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a woman reported that she was forced to remove her hijab by men at a protest camp outside of a centre that has been housing Ukrainians and international protection applicants. The woman was herself once a resident at the Avon Resort in Blessington, Co Wicklow. She was visiting a friend who lives there on Saturday 19 July, when she says she was stopped by four men at an encampment-style protest that has been ongoing for the last month. The woman said she was asked to remove her hijab to prove that she 'was not a man', according to a volunteer who has supported her in the aftermath of the incident. She said that as she was alone, she felt too scared to pull her phone out to call for help, and was 'forced to comply' with the request. She was left shaken and upset following the incident. A garda spokesperson told The Journal that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. 'Gardaí are investigating an alleged incident of public order that occurred at a premises in Blessington, Co. Wicklow at approximately 4:30pm on Saturday 19th July,' the spokesperson said. A member of the Blessington Welcomes group was asked to accompany the woman to the local garda station in the area on the following Wednesday, when she filed a complaint of harassment. Advertisement A spokesperson for the group said that a female member of An Garda Síochana was 'very supportive' of the woman during the complaints process. They added that the woman was left 'very distressed' by the incident. 'Some people have cars and are able to drive in and out of the entrance of the Avon, but for others who don't, every time they need to get groceries or to pick up their kids, they are confronted by this round-the-clock protest, and it's extremely difficult for them,' they said. Phil Evans, a local man who often walks past the resort, told The Journal that he also made a report to the Gardaí after 'homophobic slurs' were made towards him by men who were at the protest camp. 'I passed the camp around three weeks ago and I read signs that protestors had up, and I was pretty disturbed by them. They associated asylum seekers with crime. I asked a man at the camp if he was local, and he said he was, and he asked me what I thought of the camp. 'I told him I thought it was pretty terrible, and he was surprised and asked me why, and I explained that I live locally and I work in theatre, and we have done some projects with people living in IPAS centres. 'He became aggressive towards me and started shouting homophobic slurs at me and threatening violence. As I was walking away two other men began to shout at me too. I decided to report the incident because I was worried about other who have to walk past and, and those who have to go in,' Evans said. Sinn Féin TD John Brady said in May that the Avon Hotel would no longer be used to house Ukrainians and could instead be used to house international protection applicants. He said that he understood that the hotel was being offered to provide accommodation to asylum seekers under an agreement with a two year duration. Top Boy actor Michael Ward charged with rape and sexual assault
ACTOR MICHAEL WARD, who is best known for starring in television drama Top Boy, has been charged with rape and sexual assault. The 27-year-old is charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police said. The alleged offences relate to one woman and are reported to have taken place in January 2023. Advertisement Ward, of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, will appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on 28 August. Macron sues US influencer over ‘global humiliation' of claims wife is a man
The Macrons said in a complaint filed in Delaware Superior Court that Owens has waged a lie-filled "campaign of global humiliation" to promote her podcast and expand her "frenzied" fan base. These lies included that Brigitte Macron, 72, was born under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, the actual name of her older brother, the Macrons said. "Owens has dissected their appearance, their marriage, their friends, their family, and their personal history � twisting it all into a grotesque narrative designed to inflame and degrade," the complaint said. "The result," the complaint added, "is relentless bullying on a worldwide scale." In her podcast , Owens said, "This lawsuit is littered with factual inaccuracies," and part of an "obvious and desperate public relations strategy" to smear her character. Owens also said she did not know a lawsuit was coming, though lawyers for both sides had been communicating since January. A spokesperson for Owens called the lawsuit itself an effort to bully her, after Brigitte Macron rejected Owens' repeated requests for an interview. "This is a foreign government attacking the First Amendment rights of an American independent journalist," the spokesperson said. In a joint statement released by their lawyers, the Macrons said they sued after Owens rejected three demands that she retract defamatory statements. "Ms. Owens's campaign of defamation was plainly designed to harass and cause pain to us and our families and to garner attention and notoriety," the Macrons said. "We gave her every opportunity to back away from these claims, but she refused." The lawsuit is a rare case of a world leader suing for defamation. President Donald Trump has also turned to the courts, including in a $10 billion lawsuit accusing The Wall Street Journal of defaming him by claiming he created a lewd birthday greeting for disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. The Journal said it would defend against that case and had full confidence in its reporting. According to the Macrons, the series spread "verifiably false and devastating lies," including that Brigitte Macron stole another person's identity and transitioned to female, and that the Macrons are blood relatives committing incest. The complaint discusses circumstances under which the Macrons met, when the now 47-year-old president was a high school student and Brigitte was a teacher. It said their relationship "remained within the bounds of the law." According to the complaint, baseless speculation about Brigitte Macron's gender began surfacing in 2021, and the topic has been discussed on popular podcasts hosted by Tucker Carlson and Joe Rogan, who have many conservative followers. In September, Brigitte won a lawsuit in a French court against two women, including a self-described medium, who contributed to spreading rumours about her gender. An appeals court overturned that decision this month, and Brigitte Macron has appealed to France's highest court. The case is Macron et al v Owens et al, Delaware Superior Court, No. N25C-07-194.
