A 30 per cent tariff on all goods travelling from Ireland to the US would be incredibly damaging for Irish
The tariff attack could also wipe billions off the Irish economy as a small number of American companies that sell products back to the US pay enormous amounts of corporation tax here.
The EU had previously drawn up a list of tariffs of their own that they would implement on the States if Trump pushed ahead with his measures.

Donald Trump pauses live interview to praise Fox News' Will Cain in weird moment
President Donald Trump toured flood-ravaged areas of Texas on Friday, offering sympathy to victims, but not without taking a moment to praise Fox News host Will Cain's television ratings during a live interview. Speaking on The Will Cain Show while surveying the storm-hit region, Trump reflected on his previous visit to East Palestine, Ohio, following last year's toxic train derailment, drawing a connection between the two disaster sites. 'I showed up in Ohio, and it was a great thing to do,' Trump said. 'I made permanent friends in that little community. Remember the train going through, it was a mess. And other people didn't show up for like a year and a half.' As president, I really have an obligation to do it. I have done it many times, but this is as bad as I have seen.' Trump claimed he had an "an obligation" to attend the floods. (Image: Fox News) The Texas flooding, which has left families displaced and homes destroyed, prompted Trump to meet with residents, some of whom have lost family members. 'They love each other,' Trump said of the local community. 'They're going to rebuild. I didn't hear one person who wants to leave. Some lost a daughter, two daughters even. It's a tough thing they're going through.' Cain commended Trump for showing up when, as he put it, 'not every president has visited disaster zones and been here in touch with ordinary Americans.' Trump nodded in agreement, replying, 'We're going to help this community too.' But the conversation soon veered into lighter territory. Cain noted Trump's popularity in Texas, saying, 'I think you're going to end up with a lot of friends in Texas. You already have a lot of friends in Texas.' Trump smiled and used the moment to turn the spotlight on Cain himself. 'Texas has been great. And you have been great, and you have been doing very well, I have to say,' Trump remarked. 'If I can interject, he's got very high ratings. His show is a big success, so we will at least say that.' For the latest local news and features on Irish America, visit our homepage here . Elon Musk's xAI apologises for its AI Grok's offensive posts that included praise for Hitler
ELON MUSK'S STARTUP xAI apologised today for offensive posts published by its artificial intelligence assistant Grok this week, blaming them on a software update meant to make it function more like a human. After the Tuesday upgrade, Grok praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in the posts on social media platform X, and suggested that people with Jewish surnames were more likely to spread online hate. X deleted some of those posts several hours later, amid growing outrage. Advertisement 'We deeply apologize for the horrific behavior that many experienced,' the company posted on X today, adding that it had modified the system 'to prevent further abuse.' The company said the change occurred after the chatbot was prompted to 'reply to the post just like a human' as well as 'tell like it is and you are not afraid to offend people who are politically correct.' As a result, Grok became susceptible to users' 'extremist views,' which made it produce 'responses containing unethical or controversial opinions to engage the user.' Grok, which Musk promised would be an 'edgy' truthteller following its launch in 2023, has been mired in controversy. In March, xAI acquired X in a $33 billion deal that allowed the company to integrate the platform's data resources with the chatbot's development. On Wednesday, Musk unveiled a new version of the assistant, Grok 4, which was unrelated to the 7 July update.

Mr Kuvin said: 'I still don't think Andrew can sleep soundly. With the quick change of administration or new leadership at the Department of Justice, the investigation could be reopened or continued. Andrew needs to visit the US to answer questions from the FBI. Read More on UK News 'Avoiding this, merely makes people think he's guilty.' There is no statute of limitations for federal sex crimes in the US, meaning allegations against Andrew could be brought again at any time. He is not thought to have travelled to the US since meeting Epstein in New York in 2010. Most read in The Sun Andrew's representatives were contacted for comment. Prince Andrew has never been more toxic - the public hate him and NONE of the royals back him either 3 Andrew and paedo pal Epstein together in New York's Central Park Credit: Jae Donnelly 'There is no way back for Prince Andrew', claims PR guru PRINCE Andrew's reputation is damaged beyond repair and he will never be able to engineer a return to public life, according to one of Britain's top PR gurus. Brand and culture expert Nick Ede, who runs East of Eden PR agency, called the shamed royal 'deluded' for thinking he could ever return to royal duties and urged him to give up and 'enjoy his life' in exile. It follows the release of Scoop - a Netflix movie based on the 2019 interview he gave to Newsnight. Nick said: 'There is no way back for him. 'I think you know this perpetual idea that he could still be back. Nobody cares. He hasn't got fans. 'There's nobody out there who's going 'We want to see Prince Andrew', not one single person. I think he has to realise that. But I think it's going to take a long, long time for him to actually understand. It's very deluded. "In my opinion, the best thing that he could do is just enjoy his life. He's got gorgeous daughters. He has a great relationship with Fergie, he has a lovely house. 'Just live a quiet life.' Reflecting on the interview five years ago - the fallout of which saw Andrew step back from royal duties "for the foreseeable future" - Nick compared the fallout to Frost vs Nixon and said he would have urged him not to do it. He said: ' If I had been advising him, I would say, go quiet, be quiet, just go to ground. You know you're a prince. Enjoy the life that you lead, but do not open this can of worms, because that's what it is. ' There was no admission that a relationship with somebody like Epstein was terribly toxic. There was no idea that there were loads of victims of trafficking whose lives were completely ruined by Epstein. He didn't seem to think that the association he had with that man was anything but positive. 'I think his worst gaffe was obviously being in that interview and agreeing to it in the first place, for not realising that he's actually going to be interviewed by a very, very good journalist who is going to ask him questions which he might not like. 'But I think what this has done is really shown how archaic Prince Andrew is in his opinions and thoughts. "Read the room. He's never read a room at all.'
