In Brics Summit's sidelines, Anwar to hold talks with Modi, Ethiopian leader and Embraer CEO tomorrow
The meetings will take place on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit tomorrow.
Anwar, who arrived here Saturday, will meet Indian premier Narendra Modi at the Museum of Modern Art, after delivering his National Statement at the summit.
Both leaders met during the 21st ASEAN-India Summit in Laos last year.
Anwar will then meet his Ethiopian counterpart, Abiy Ahmed Ali.
The prime minister will be accompanied by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz at the meetings.
It will be a busy day for Anwar as he starts his second day in the second biggest city in Brazil with a meeting with Embraer President and CEO, Francisco Gomes Neto.
Headquartered in Brazil, Embraer is a leading aircraft manufacturer and participated in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA 2025) in Langkawi last May.
Anwar will also receive a courtesy call by President of the New Development Bank (NDB) Dilma Rousself.
Malaysia's participation in the summit is in its capacity as a BRICS Partner Country and as Chair of ASEAN 2025.

KUALA LUMPUR: The new AI Action Plan 2026-2030, which will guide the country towards becoming an 'inclusive and sustainable' Artificial Intelligence (AI) nation by 2030, focuses on ethics, innovation and equitable growth, the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) said. The roadmap outlines five key priorities, namely, delivering measurable sectoral impact, embedding responsible AI, building talent pipelines, supporting local innovation, and ensuring coordinated government execution. "Inclusivity means ensuring AI benefits all segments of society - across regions, income levels, ages and abilities - by expanding access to AI education and tools, supporting SMEs, startups and underserved communities, and promoting multilingual and culturally relevant AI solutions," NAIO told the New Straits Times. Sustainability, meanwhile, covers economic resilience, environmental responsibility and evolving safeguards. The Action Plan also aims to close the digital divide through literacy programmes in underserved communities, empower cooperatives with AI tools, and create real-world use cases in areas such as health, education and agriculture. The office said public consultations on a comprehensive AI Governance Framework, which integrates ethical principles, regulatory recommendations and safeguards for responsible AI use, will also follow once its draft framework is approved. Malaysia is currently ranked second in Asean and 23rd globally in AI readiness. The government has made key strides since 2021, with major investments in supercomputing capacity, such as YTL-Nvidia AI Cloud, and chip development, such as ARM IP licensing. "This step is crucial to ensure Malaysia's AI governance is transparent, inclusive and grounded in societal values, while aligning with global best practices," it added. On July 31, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Malaysia aims to be an "inclusive and sustainable" Artificial Intelligence (AI) nation by 2030. Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the government wants the country to become a regional hub for digital technology innovation and the production of " Made by Malaysia" products and services, he said.

PMPS regrets PM's absence, urges clarity on pension adjustment
Dr Aslie KOTA KINABALU (Aug 3): The Sabah Retired Educators Association (PMPS) has expressed disappointment over the absence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Rancakkan MADANI Sabah programme held on Sunday at the ITCC Penampang Ballroom. PMPS President Dr Aslie Sahat said many retirees, including members of the association, had travelled from various districts in hopes of meeting the Prime Minister and hearing his direct address — particularly on the pension adjustment issue, which remains a pressing concern among public sector retirees. 'We had high hopes that the pension issue would be addressed directly by the Prime Minister. However, when it was announced that he would not attend, many felt deeply disappointed,' he said in a media statement. The Prime Minister was instead represented by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. Despite the setback, PMPS acknowledged the efforts of all organisers and recognised the Prime Minister's demanding schedule. Dr Aslie urged for a dedicated dialogue session between the Prime Minister and retired educators in Sabah to strengthen trust and improve communication between the government and the retired teaching community. 'We are always ready to welcome him with respect. Retirees have played a vital role in nation-building and deserve to have their voices heard,' he added.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — The Madani Government continues to prioritise the welfare of farmers, breeders and fishermen, with a focus on supporting, guiding and empowering them, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said the group was the backbone of the nation's food security and played a crucial role in ensuring the people's survival and the nation's food sovereignty. 'I emphasised the need for strong synergy between the Federal Government, state governments and relevant agencies in strategically focusing on the development of the modern agricultural sector and the blue economy for the people's wellbeing and environmental sustainability,' he said in a Facebook post today. Anwar also said the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day 2025 (HPPNK 2025) held a special place in his heart, having once helmed the Agriculture Ministry portfolio over four decades ago. 'That experience shaped a deep understanding of the hardship and resilience of farmers, breeders and fishermen who serve as the backbone of national food security,' he said. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the government would continue efforts to boost the productivity and competitiveness of the agrofood sector to drive rural development, generate national wealth and secure the future of the next generation.
