Second day of York Racecourse's Music Showcase brings excitement
IT'S amazing to think that Ronan Keating first hit the headlines in 1993 when still a teenager with the formation of Boyzone. His worldwide fan club, based not only on his music but also as a judge on X Factor is one of music's largest and the fact he plays the Knavesmire on the second leg of a world tour- and this is one of just two in the UK- is a considerable coup for the York Racecourse team. His appearance on stage after the last race, will be a memorable climax to the Music Showcase weekend which also brings the Sky Bet Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival to a climax. York took the decision a month or so ago to increase the prize money on their two featured Saturday races, and they have been handsomely rewarded with, just like Friday night in excess of 100 runners declared. The £150,000 Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes (2.40pm) is seen as a stepping stone to next month's Group 1 Juddmonte International, which was voted the worlds best race in 2024 being run over the same mile and a quarter distance. This race was first run in 2006 and Twice Over, who won in 2011 is the only one to have completed the double, while Alflailia became the first horse to win this race twice when beating Kings Gambit and Passenger a year ago. Amazingly no jockey, so far, has won it more than once. A top-class field of seven line up headed by Almaqam who was last seen winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in May. The race is a clash of the generations with three-year-old Stanhope Gardens, fifth in the Derby at Epsom and Irish raider Green Impact, sixth in the Irish Derby at The Curragh heading the younger age bracket. The £100,000 Sky Bet Dash (2.00pm), has attracted a maximum 22 runner field- but all eyes will be on Elmonjed, trained by Yorkshireman-in-exile William Haggas who won the equally valuable Constantine Handicap at last year's Sky Bet Ebor Festival. A draw in Stall 10 will only offer encouragement for his supporters. The second big sprint is unique as the jump jockeys, used to three miles plus around Aintree, Cheltenham and more locally at Wetherby, get their chance to exit from the stalls in the Jump Jockeys Nunthorpe (3.20pm) to face the shortest distance possible, just five furlongs. 20 of them will test this new skill to including Joe Williamson aboard Soul Seeker- first and second in this race for the last two years. York record holder, Copper Knight, is to be ridden by Jamie Hamilton, who tries to land his 8th victory on the Knavesmire at the thirty-third time of asking. Racing begins at 1.25pm with all the York facilities open for business, be it the new areas for food and drink in the Bustardthorpe End or in the centre of the course for picnics. But one thing is sure, the sporting action may well be a roller coaster that will all help build the atmosphere pending Mr Keating's arrival.

Jeff Teague Walks Back Claim LeBron James Took Steroids During Miami Heat Days, Social Media Reacts
Jeff Teague and his friends-turned-co-host on the Club 520 podcast are known for cracking jokes at the former player's expense and giving hilarious takes and some behind-the-scenes in-game moments. The trio is very unfiltered to say the least, and now Teague may have poked the wrong bear with a recent comment about LeBron James when he was in his prime during his Big Three era with the Miami Heat. He was so dominant those years that Teague joked that he was juicing. 'Miami Heat Bron, he was on steroids bro, he had to sit out because he was on steroids. Allegedly,' Teague said. 'He had to sit out when they started testing for HGH, and he said his back was hurt and sat out for like three weeks and came back skinny. I was in the league, and I remember. He came back, and he was crazy.' The only thing is, it wasn't exactly a joke, because back in 2013, the allegation led to an FBI investigation. The DEA busted Florida's Biogenesis clinic in what became the largest doping operation in U.S. sports history, involving Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz, and WWE star Paul 'The Big Show' Wight. The federal documents consisted of 1,400 pages and included David Alexander, a well-known trainer who had worked with James, as well as the NBA champions' friend and business manager, Ernest 'Randy' Mims, which led to the feds looking into the then Heat star before ultimately clearing him. 'I can tell you that we looked into everything just because we knew this day would come,' the lead DEA investigator concluded, according to ESPN. 'There was never any indication that LeBron James did anything wrong.' Docs do suggest that Mims purchased testosterone — a Schedule III controlled substance — and metabolism-boosting injections, but he claimed they were for himself. Right on time, those proverbial Klutch-branded trucks pulled up on Teague, who issued a clarification on social media. 'Y'all weird I was joking about bron he was just that dominant chill,' he wrote to his Instagram stories. See how social media is reacting to the steroid allegations spinning the block below. Miami moves toward selling historic Olympia Theater to SLAM Charter School Network co-founded by Pitbull
The Miami City Commission voted unanimously Thursday to allow the city manager to begin negotiating the sale of the historic Olympia Theater to the SLAM network of charter schools, co-founded by musician and entrepreneur Pitbull. The proposed sale, which would transfer the deed for $10, comes with strong community opinions both for and against the deal. "Over the course of the last three weeks we've been having public meetings and it's been great to see today a lot of support from people who came to the first meeting and were initially skeptical," said Millie Sanchez, SLAM! Foundation chief administrative officer. SLAM's plan would convert the 10-story tower behind the theater into classrooms. The theater itself would remain a performance venue, offering at least 180 days of community programming such as concerts, civic events and a return of the Miami Film Festival. SLAM representatives emphasized that the venue would not become "just another school auditorium." "We want a school there. We don't want some hotelier there that's going to pocket money from the theater. We want to make sure that it's a civic philanthropy," said Timothy Barket, attorney for the Gusman family, which originally donated the building to the city in 1975. The family is currently suing to reclaim the property but supports the SLAM proposal and says the deal would resolve the lawsuit. Despite the commission's unanimous vote to move forward with negotiations, some city commissioners requested stronger terms in the contract, including an updated appraisal and formal partnerships with Miami Dade College. Those against the sale said they have concerns about the historical preservation of the iconic Miami landmark and said the process hasn't been transparent and has been rushed. "I think we should give it the time that it deserves to really review the details because the devil is in the details," said Denise Galvez Turros, former City of Miami historic preservation board member. "We have been slighted before in all these other deals when we give away our public institutions and parks, and so of course there's huge distrust when it comes to our city manager." "The Olympia Theater belongs to us; it belongs to the residents of the City of Miami," said Jessica Johnson. The city commission will recess for August. A final vote on the proposed sale is expected in September. The estimated cost to restore the theater exceeds $50 million.
