Woman Says She's Unsure If She Should Assist Her ‘Rude' and ‘Toxic' Neighbor in a Time of Need: ‘Am I Awful Not to Help?'

A woman says that she has an 'exceptionally rude' elderly neighbor who is 'petty,' 'toxic' and 'manipulative'
The neighbor makes her feel 'anxious,' and she avoids her 'at all costs'
Now, the neighbor is having medical issues and may need some help around the house — but the woman is unsure if she should lend a handA woman has been asked to help an extremely unpleasant neighbor — and wonders what she should do.
The woman detailed her story in a forum on the U.K.-based community site Mumsnet. In her post, titled, 'Exceptionally rude neighbor needs help,' the woman explained that she lives below an 'elderly woman' who has 'no family' and 'no friends.'
'When I first met her, I thought she was so lovely but demanding, and [we would] talk for hours. I helped her carry her bags up a few times, etc.' the woman said.

However, the original poster [OP] went on to explain that she and the neighbor had a 'disagreement about a year in,' at which point their dynamic shifted dramatically.
'She entirely switched from sweet, lonely old lady to nightmare,' the OP said, adding, 'She has been so rude, petty, gossipy [and] made racist remarks' and has 'tried to turn the whole building against me.'

'I [once] walked past her on the stairs as she was hobbling up, and she called me an 'awful b----' for not helping with her bags, so I took her bag, ran it upstairs, then went inside my apartment,' the OP continued.
The OP went on to say that she now avoids the neighbor 'at all costs,' adding that being involved with such a 'toxic, manipulative person' has caused her 'so much anxiety.'
However, the woman said that the neighbor has recently fallen ill and is currently in the hospital. She said their mailman has stepped up to bring the neighbor some things from home and help with small tasks around the neighbor's apartment — and he asked the OP if she could assist.
The OP said that she refused, explaining to the mailman that the neighbor 'doesn't like' her.
'But I know at some point she will ask me for a favor, as she has no one else,' the OP said, adding, 'I feel I need to rehearse a response — and on the surface I look so awful.'
'Am I awful not to help? What can I say?' she asked at the end of her post.
Opinions were divided over how the OP should handle the situation. Some commenters said that they did not think the woman should feel obligated to help a person who has shown her open hostility.
'She's made her bed and now she has to lie in it. I think you just need to say, 'You've been so rude and nasty to me that I'm not prepared to help or be involved with you in any way. You'll have to find someone else,' ' one person said.
Another person suggested that the OP simply say, 'We both know you don't like me, so I think it's best if you ask someone else.'
However, several other commenters said that they thought the OP may want to consider taking the high road in this particular situation..
'I think I'd like to be the 'better person' and help her out,' one person said, adding, 'It must be really lonely without family and friends. Show her what a decent person is like.'
'It is your choice, and I know she's been awful, but I would probably help with heavy shopping and putting the bins out on a time-limited basis, if you feel at all able to. I completely understand and wouldn't blame you if you can't or won't, though. Hopefully she will be well enough to do it herself soon!' someone else added.

Are these 2 of the best high-yield dividend growth shares to consider today?

I don't think there's a better way for me to source a passive income than by buying UK dividend shares. London's stock market is packed with high-yield income stocks with strong balance sheets and robust market positions, of which many are also reliable dividend growth shares. Here are two such dividend heavyweights I think deserve serious consideration. As you can see, their dividend yields comfortably beat the FTSE 100's prospective average of 3.4%. Dividend stock Dividend growth Dividend yield Primary Health Properties (LSE:PHP) 1.7% 7.2% Tritax Big Box (LSE:BBOX) 4.4% 5.6% Here's why I think they could be among the best dividend shares for investors to consider right now. Under real estate investment trust (REIT) regulations, Primary Health Properties has to pay at least nine-tenths of yearly profits from its rental operations out in dividends. Please note that tax treatment depends on the individual circumstances of each client and may be subject to change in future. The content in this article is provided for information purposes only. It is not intended to be, neither does it constitute, any form of tax advice. This can make REITs more dependable than other UK shares for a large and consistent dividend income. But it doesn't guarantee it, as occupancy and rent collection issues can still strike shareholder returns. However, Primary Health's focus on an ultra-defensive industry greatly reduces such risks. It owns and operates first-contact properties like GP surgeries and community health centres, sites that remain busy at all points of the economic cycle. Furthermore, almost all of its rental agreements are underpinned by NHS and government bodies, providing added stability over time. Don't be mistaken in thinking this sector is just brilliantly boring, however. It also has substantial opportunity for growth under the government's new 10-year Health Plan to '[move] care from hospitals to the community'. Primary Health has grown annual dividends each year since the mid-to-late 1990s. Threats to future growth include future changes to NHS policy and sector oversupply than dents rental rolls. But on balance, I think it's a great stock to consider, and one I hold in my own Stocks and Shares ISA. Tritax Big Box's dividend growth policy isn't quite as impressive as that of its FTSE 250 counterpart. One reason is that it's only been in existence since 2013. Another reason is that the annual dividend fell for the first time during the height of the pandemic five years ago. But this REIT has grown shareholder payouts steadily since then, and is tipped to continue through to 2027 at least. In fact, predicted dividend growth for this year is more than double the rate predicted for the broader UK share complex. Tritax Big Box doesn't operate in defensive sectors, which can leave profits vulnerable during lean periods. But its portfolio composition helps to reduce (if not totally eliminate) the threat to dividends and its share price. It has more than 128 tenants on its books spread across 102 properties. These cover multiple industries and include blue-chip companies like Amazon and Ocado, providing strength through diversification. With online shopping still growing, supply chains being onshored, and data centre demand increasing, I expect demand for its big box assets to rise over time. This could in turn deliver sustained long-term dividend growth. The post Are these 2 of the best high-yield dividend growth shares to consider today? appeared first on The Motley Fool UK. Ambulance station that has been closed for years set for refurbishment

PLANS for a new ambulance station in a Gwent town have been shelved in favour of refurbishing an existing building. However the Welsh Ambulance Service has said a refurbished station in Monmouth could be completed by end of the March 2026. Crews have operated from a temporary building since the closure of the town's ambulance station some 13 years ago when it was 'sadly, condemned as not fit for purpose,' according to Councillor Martin Newell. The Conservative member for the Town ward said paramedics and crews now operate from what he called 'a Portakabin' and said 'winter is coming and it is draughty and it leaks.' He asked if Monmouthshire County Council's cabinet member Ian Chandler, whose role also includes health, could provide an update on any discussions over a new ambulance station with the service. Cllr Chandler said the service had signed off on plans to rebuild the station in November last year, and the county council's planning department had offered pre-application advice, but it has since decided on a refurbishment instead. The Green Party councillor said: 'The Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust has now assessed the options and decided to press head with a refurbishment of the existing building they tell me they are scoping out what they can do with the internal structure and a final design to be to be signed off and go out for tender.' Cllr Chandler said the service has said its project board is 'very supportive of the refurbishment option and it hopefully means work can begin in early autumn and be completed by the end of the financial year but that could be subject to change due to a range of factors.' Cllr Chandler promised to keep councillors updated and added: 'In my view it's very positive news we will have a refurbished and fully functioning ambulance station within the next nine months.' Mitchell Troy and Trellech councillor Richard John, the leader of the Conservative group, said the ambulance service had initially considered a joint emergency services base with the fire service, which has a station next door to the ambulance station on Rockfield Road, and police but that plan was abandoned on cost grounds. Cllr John, writing on social media, said while it was 'disappointing' the revised plans for a standalone ambulance station had also been dropped he welcomed the 'scaled back proposals' as 'infinitely better than current conditions' as he said in the temporary building crews have been left without running water during the winter.
