Sounders GK Stefan Frei 'home resting' after injury scare

Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei was 'back home resting' on Monday after leaving Sunday's match in Seattle in an ambulance with an injury to his head and neck.
Frei, 39, collided with Columbus Crew midfielder Amar Sejdic's knee while trying to collect a free kick during second-half stoppage time in the 1-1 draw.
Medical personnel rushed onto the field and placed Frei onto a stretcher before loading him into an ambulance at Lumen Field.
'I'm incredibly grateful to all the staff that looked after me and happy to be back home resting now,' Frei posted on X early Monday morning.
'What resonates is all the messages, calls and love I've received from so many of you. Thank you -- truly. It means more than I can put into words.'Instead of resuming play after Frei's injury, Crew coach Wilfried Nancy and Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer successfully encouraged officials to end the match.
'Wilfried, I appreciate what he did because the ref wasn't going to stop the game,' Schmetzer said. 'Everybody knew that the game should have been stopped. Good on him. So thank you, Wilfried.'
'I hope that everything's going to be okay with (Frei),' Nancy said. 'Our job is not easy. When you see a situation like that, again, football is not the most important. We stay positive, and hopefully everything's going to be good for him.'
Frei has been minding the Sounders' net since the 2014 season. Including his time with Toronto from 2011-13, he has recorded 112 clean sheets in 371 career MLS matches.

The Canadian side began the day 18 points out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. Tomas Chancalay scored his fourth goal for New England (6-11-7, 25 points), which lost its third straight and saw its own winless skid extended to nine. The Revolution have conceded 21 times in their last nine games, and 10 in their last three. Owusu pulled Montreal level with some ruthless striker play in the ninth minute, and only six minutes after Chancalay's opener. After receiving Dawid Bugaj's pass from the right with his back to goal, the brawny striker used his body to shield a defender, spun, then fired a low finish past Aljaz Ivacic from near the penalty spot. Sealy's go-ahead strike in the 36th came from a similar area but was simpler, with Caden Clark providing the final pass into the box and Sealy hammering a half-volley past Ivacic in stride. Chancalay and Carles Gil were at the root of New England's best chances to pull level. In the 53rd minute, Gil played Chancalay down the left, whose cross took a heavy deflection and forced Jonathan Sirois into a scrambling stop at his near post. Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba avoid sanctions over All-Star snub

Culling of infected cows leads to shortened 19th stage of Tour de France
LA PLAGNE, France (AP) — The 19th stage of the Tour de France was shortened on Friday after cows infected by a contagious disease were culled in an area along the mountainous route. The stage from Albertville to La Plagne was meant to be 129.9 kilometers (80.5 miles) long but trimmed to 93.1 kilometers (57.7 miles), according to the official Tour website's stage map on Friday. Two of the five climbs were removed, including the 13.7 kilometer Col des Saisies — where an outbreak of nodular dermatitis affected a herd of cows, race organizer ASO said. 'The discovery of an outbreak of contagious nodular dermatitis (lumpy skin) affecting cattle in a herd located specifically in the Col des Saisies necessitated the culling of the animals,' ASO said in a statement. 'Given the consternation of the breeders concerned, and in order to maintain the calm of the race, it was decided, in agreement with the authorities, to modify the route of the 19th stage and not to cross the Col des Saisies.' The start time of the stage was pushed back by one hour to 2:30 p.m. local time (1230 GMT), with an expected finishing time of around 5:30 p.m. Three-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia led overall heading into the stage, with two-time champion Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark 4 minutes, 26 seconds behind him in second place. Stage 19 represented Vingegaard's last realistic chance of overtaking Pogačar and taking the yellow jersey, with the race finishing on Sunday.
