Colombia Orders Halt of Coal Shipments to Israel

Israa Farhan Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered the interception of all coal shipments bound for Israel, intensifying his country's protest against the ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza. The decision, announced on Friday, reflects Colombia's growing stance on the humanitarian crisis in the region. Speaking from Cartagena, a coastal city on the Caribbean Sea, President Petro declared that no coal would be exported to Israel under his command as the head of the armed forces. He stated that Colombia would not be complicit in what he described as acts of genocide, highlighting a firm policy shift in support of Palestinian civilians affected by the war. The announcement was made during a ceremony to unveil new naval units under the NavadaColombia program, including a health-focused vessel, aimed at improving preventive and primary healthcare access across Colombia. The event also marked the 202nd anniversary of the Battle of Lake Maracaibo and Colombia's National Navy Day. Earlier in the week, President Petro had threatened to unilaterally alter the coal concession contract with mining giant Glencore if the company continued exporting to Israel. In response, Glencore confirmed it had already ceased shipments in compliance with the president's directive. The company told Reuters that its Cerrejón coal mine had stopped exports to Israel nearly two weeks before the ban took effect. Located in La Guajira in northeastern Colombia, the Cerrejón mine is one of the largest open-pit coal export mines globally. It is connected by a 150-kilometre railway line to a Caribbean port, making it a significant hub in Colombia's coal export industry. President Petro also warned that if Glencore failed to comply with the decision, local communities near the mine might be mobilized to enforce a blockade. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

Iran Reaffirms Commitment to Nuclear Program Ahead of Talks with European Troika

Ahmed Emam Iran has reaffirmed its determination to continue uranium enrichment and defend its nuclear rights, ahead of crucial talks with the European troika scheduled for tomorrow. In a statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that 'Tehran's position remains strong and enrichment will continue,' emphasizing that the Islamic Republic will 'defend its nuclear rights, including uranium enrichment,' in the upcoming negotiations with the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The remarks come amid renewed diplomatic efforts to revive stalled discussions over Iran's nuclear program, which has remained a key point of tension between Tehran and Western powers. Reinforcing this stance, Ali Shamkhani, senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated on Thursday that 'no country can halt the advancement of Iran's nuclear program.' The assertion highlights Tehran's defiance in the face of international pressure and underscores its intent to move forward with its nuclear agenda. The European troika has long called for restrictions on Iran's uranium enrichment activities, which Western governments fear could lead to the development of nuclear weapons. Iran insists its program is strictly peaceful and conducted under the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The upcoming meeting is seen as a test of whether diplomatic channels remain viable amid deepening mistrust and heightened regional tensions. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

Pentagon approves $4.7bn surface-to-air missile package to Egypt

Basant Ahmed The Pentagon announced on Wednesday that the State Department has approved a potential sale of advanced air defense systems to Egypt for approximately $4.67 billion. The sale includes NASAMS advanced surface-to-air missile systems, a wide range of missiles, radars, and technical support and training equipment. According to a statement from the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the deal includes a comprehensive package of weapons and equipment, most notably the NASAMS air defense system, a medium- to long-range mobile system used to protect airspace from aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones. The deal also includes four AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel radars, which are advanced 3D radars for detecting air threats with high accuracy, as well as 100 AMRAAM-ER missiles and 100 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles, two of the latest radar-guided air-to-air missiles effective against long-range targets.
