The market share of premium motorcycles - engine capacity greater than 150 cc - increased to 19% last fiscal from 14% in fiscal 2019, with their volume rising to 23 lakh units from 19 lakh units, it said in a statement.
On the other hand, the market share of economy motorcycles declined to 46% last fiscal from 62 per cent in fiscal 2019, with volume shrinking to 56 lakh units from 84 lakh units, largely due to weak rural demand and an increase in prices, it added.

Vijayawada: Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to take swift action to restore and revitalize the AP Fiber Net project. He charged that the previous government had completely derailed the AP Fiber Net project, a visionary initiative launched between 2014 and 2019. Reviewing the progress of AP Fibernet activities here on Monday, the chief minister asked the officials to assess the challenges, financial constraints, necessary corrective steps, and new policy directions. He said that the system, designed to benefit the public, students, and government departments, was exploited for political purposes by the previous govt. He pointed out that while there were 8.70 lakh connections before 2019, was dropped to 4.50 lakh during the YSRCP regime. "We managed the organization effectively with just 130 employees and provided over 8 lakh connections. But the YSRCP government created unauthorized posts to accommodate its party workers, expanding the workforce from 130 to 1,350 and misusing public funds. This was a new form of corruption where party affiliates were placed in government roles and used for political work. The fiber network was no exception. He, however, said that steps must be taken to rectify past mistakes and ensure a better future. He instructed that the current 4,53,525 connections be increased to at least 8–10 lakh. The chief minister approved the integration of AP Fiber Net with the BharatNet (Amended BharatNet Programme – ABP). Under this scheme, the Centre will allocate Rs. 1,900 crore to AP Fiber Net from 2025 to 2035. He also approved the transition of fiber networks in 1692 gram panchayats across Chittoor and Visakhapatnam districts from linear to ring architecture. Additionally, 480 new gram panchayats will be connected using the ring model. The Centre will provide Rs. 430 crore for this phase. Ukraine's Zelensky Proposes New PM, Defence Minister In Major Reshuffle
Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday proposed a new prime minister and defence minister, part of a major cabinet reshuffle he said would "renew" government more than three years into Russia's invasion. Economy minister Yulia Svyrydenko will become prime minister, Zelensky said, while incumbent prime minister Denys Shmygal is expected to replace defence minister Rustem Umerov. The shakeup, the biggest since the war began, comes after months of setbacks for Ukraine on the battlefield and escalating Russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities. "I have proposed that Yulia Svyrydenko lead the government of Ukraine and significantly renew its work," Zelensky wrote on social media. "I look forward to the presentation of the new government's action plan in the near future," he added. In a later evening address, Zelensky announced Shmygal would become defence minister. "Denys Shmygal's vast experience will certainly be useful in the position of Minister of Defence of Ukraine," he added later, without providing further detail. Svyrydenko, 39, gained prominence this year for helping broker a minerals deal with the United States that nearly derailed ties between Kyiv and its most important military ally. Shmygal, 49, had served as prime minister since 2020, steering the Ukrainian government through the COVID-19 pandemic and the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. - 'People are exhausted' - Shortly after Zelensky's announcement, Svyrydenko said Ukraine faced a "crucial time" and listed her priorities as "strengthening" Ukraine's economy, expanding domestic support programmes and scaling up weapons production. Ukraine's economy has been decimated by the Russian invasion, and Kyiv is reliant on tens of billions of dollars in annual support from Western countries to stay afloat. Both cabinet appointments will require approval by parliament, which has largely coalesced around Zelensky since the invasion and is unlikely to vote against him. "The government needs a change because people are exhausted," said Tymofiy Mylovanov, a former economy minister who worked with Svyrydenko. Mylovanov, who now heads the Kyiv School of Economics, said the changes would likely bring "a sort of freshness" after three and a half years of war. Zelensky said last week he was also considering naming Defence Minister Rustem Umerov as Ukraine's ambassador to Washington. Zelensky met with Umerov over the weekend, after which he said that "Ukraine needs more positive dynamics in relations with the United States and at the same time new steps in managing the defence sector of our state." The appointments come at a pivotal moment in the three-year conflict. Direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine on ending the fighting have stalled, while the United States announced earlier that it would boost military support for Kyiv in a major about-turn.

Mumbai: BEST revives iconic Route No. 1 as A1 AC service after year-long pause
After nearly a year off the road, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking has reinstated its iconic Route No. 1 in a new avatar. Relaunched as A1, the route will operate air-conditioned buses between Electric House and Bandra Reclamation Bus Depot starting July 15. In a statement issued Monday, BEST said that the A1 service will run six departures in the morning and another six in the evening on all weekdays. The schedule has been designed to cater to peak-hour office travel. 'The earlier Route No. 1 was temporarily discontinued as part of BEST's ongoing route rationalisation exercise. The new A1 service is a restructured version, introduced to improve operational efficiency and commuter comfort,' said the BEST spokesperson. Route No. 1, once one of the city's oldest and most recognisable bus lines, was discontinued quietly in mid-2024. In its absence, the undertaking introduced Route 51 and other alternatives that covered portions of the same corridor. However, regular commuters complained that the replacements did not fully serve the needs of those travelling between Colaba and Bandra Reclamation. The original Route No. 1 holds a unique place in Mumbai's transport history. It was first introduced as Route A during the city's tram era and later renumbered when motor buses took over. In 1937, it became the first route to feature a double-decker bus, a Daimler-class vehicle that would go on to define Mumbai's visual transport identity for decades. For several years, Route 1 connected Colaba to Mahim and was later extended to Bandra Reclamation. It remained in regular operation even during the Covid-19 lockdowns when local trains were restricted to essential workers. A night variant, Route 1 Ltd, had also earned a niche following among late-night travellers and was affectionately dubbed as 'vampire route' by bus enthusiasts. The newly reintroduced A1 service will run air-conditioned buses only, with departure points at Electric House and Bandra Reclamation Bus Depot. Morning departures are scheduled for 8.00 am, 8.30 am, 9 am, 9.31 am, 10.05 am and 10.35 am. Evening services will run at 3.40 pm, 4.10 pm, 4.40 pm, 5.15 pm, 5.45 pm and 6.15 pm.
