Is Arvind Kejriwal going to Rajya Sabha? Here's what AAP chief really thinks
In Ludhiana West, AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora defeated his nearest rival and Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu by 10,676 votes after the 14th. Arora's win in the assembly election leaves a Rajya Sabha seat vacant. And thus the question doing the rounds in AAP political circles would be who will the party sent to the Upper House of Parliament to replace Arora.
Will it be party chief Arvind Kejriwal, his foremr deputy CM Manish Sisodia, or a leader from Punjab?
Kejriwal was asked this question during a press conference that he addressed after bypoll results on Monday. And here is what the former Delhi CM said:"Kejriwal nahin ja raha (Kejriwal is not going to the Rajya Sabha) though you (the media) have sent me there several times already."
Last time specualtion about three time former CM Kejriwal's Rajya Sabha bid were sparked in February when AAP fielded Arora from Ludhiana West seat. This seat fell vacant last month after the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi in an accidental firing while cleaning his pistol.
The AAP had then denied the reports. 'Arvind Kejriwal is not going to Rajya Sabha...As far as Arvind Kejriwal is concerned, media sources were earlier saying that he will become the Chief Minister of Punjab. Now, media sources are saying that he will contest from Rajya Sabha. Both these sources are absolutely wrong. Arvind Kejriwal is the national convenor of AAP. I agree that his demand is very high, but he is not limited to any one seat,' AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar told news agency ANI.
Arora, a businessman, was elected to theRajya Sabhain 2022 from Punjab. His tenure is set to end in 2028. Now that he will be an MLA, Arora will have to resign from the Parliament leaving the seat vacant.
Kejriwal nahin ja raha (Kejriwal is not going to the Rajya Sabha) though you (the media) have sent me there several times already.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the February 5 assembly election in Delhi bagging 48 seats. The AAP, which won the last two elections, won just 22 seats. The defeat meant AAP is only in power in Punjab. Kejriwal is not member of any house as of now after his recent defeat in Delhi Assembly Election.
Remember Kejriwal had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election against Narendra Modi from Varanasi in 2014. The AAP has 11 Rajya Sabha members, including Arora, presently. It has one Lok Sabha member too.
Key Takeaways Kejriwal is currently not seeking a Rajya Sabha seat despite media speculation.
Sanjeev Arora's recent win leaves a Rajya Sabha seat vacant, prompting questions about AAP's next move.
AAP's recent electoral performance raises questions about its future strategy and leadership roles.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy's Kolar tour revives JD(S) cadres but exposes internal rifts
Kolar: In a bid to position Nikhil Kumaraswamy as the next State President of the JD(S), the party high command has launched a statewide outreach campaign, with Nikhil touring various districts. His recent visit to Kolar district has sparked renewed interest among demoralised JD(S) leaders in Kolar district, while also exposing underlying rifts and a lack of co-ordination among local three days, Nikhil led bike rallies and public meetings across Bangarpet, Kolar, Srinivaspur, and Malur. These events have invigorated grassroots-level workers and offered a much-needed morale boost to a party that has been organisationally stagnant in the once a JD(S) stronghold, has seen declining influence in recent years. Former chief minister and current Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy has visited the district only once in recent times, and the party has since struggled to maintain a cohesive presence. JD(S) suffered setbacks in the recent DCC Bank and KOMUL elections, except in Kolar and Mulabagilu. Despite internal conflicts within the Congress, JD(S) failed to capitalise on those issueA major issue highlighted during the tour was the lack of effective district-level leadership. Many JD(S) leaders remain confined to their taluks, and post the 2023 Assembly defeat, communication between party workers and second-tier leaders has broken down. In regions like Bangarpet, KGF, and Malur, local workers claim the party's presence has become virtually Nikhil's visit appears to have reignited organisational activity. His presence prompted meetings between taluk and village-level leaders and encouraged renewed outreach and mobilisation efforts. During a rally in Kolar, JD(S) legislators and the MP reportedly engaged in verbal spats in Nikhil's presence. Questions were also raised about Nikhil skipping a visit to the Mulabagilu Manjunath, who is facing criticism within the party for being limited to Mulabagilu constituency, subtly mocked MLA G K Venkatashivareddy, who is also the JD(S) district president, and MP Mallesh Mallesh Babu engaged in a veiled dig. Finally, Nikhil attempted to downplay the tensions by referring to the two as 'brothers' and calling for party but no votes?Despite the enthusiastic turnout at JD(S) events, party leaders remain concerned that this hasn't translated into electoral gains. H D Kumaraswamy's earlier 'Panchratna Yatra' also attracted large gatherings but resulted in just two Assembly wins in the the previous Lok Sabha victory in Kolar — where a JD(S)-BJP alliance candidate won — Nikhil expressed optimism. He set an ambitious goal of winning at least 8 out of 11 Assembly seats in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts in the 2028 elections.'Past electoral defeats have not affected my resolve. I will travel across the state to strengthen the party organisation and lead JD(S) to future victories. I received a positive response in Kolar and Chikkaballapur. Building the party is not something that can be done by me or Kumaraswamy alone. It requires the support of all leaders and grassroots workers," he work mandateNikhil also announced that JD(S) tickets for the upcoming local body and Assembly elections will be given to those who begin party organisation work right away. Pahalgam attack: Congress asks whom J&K L-G Manoj Sinha is trying to ‘protect'
Reacting to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha's admission that there was a security lapse at Pahalgam and he took full responsibility for the April 22 terror attack that left 26 tourists dead, the Congress on Monday (July 14, 2025) asked whom Mr. Sinha was trying to 'protect'. 'The much-delayed acceptance of responsibility by L-G Manoj Sinha is an insult to all those innocent tourists who lost their lives in Pahalgam terror attack. Who is the L-G protecting? Where is the accountability?' Congress' media and publicity head Pawan Khera asked in a post on X. His party colleague and Lok Sabha member from Tamil Nadu, Manickam Tagore, questioned the timing of Mr. Sinha's statement and bluntly apportioned the blame on the Centre. 'Before six days to Parliament session, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha calls the Pahalgam terror attack a 'security lapse' and takes 'full responsibility'. But in J&K, the real control lies with the Union Home Ministry under Amit Shah. Why is he silent after 90 terror-related deaths this year?' Mr. Tagore asked. The Lok Sabha member said the Narendra Modi government promised a 'new era of peace' in Kashmir after abrogating Article 370 but 90 people died due to terrorist attacks this year alone. 'The L-G admits the Pahalgam attack was Pakistan-backed, targeted tourists, and happened in a high-security zone. Then how did terrorists breach security so easily? Who was in charge of intel and preparedness? Answer: Amit Shah's Home Ministry. If the Union Govt. claims credit for all development in J&K…It must also own the failures of security. You can't take the photo-ops and dodge the bloodshed. 90 dead in a year is not normal,' Mr. Tagore said on X. 'Let's be clear: This is not just a local failure. It's a central failure — by the Modi govt. and the Home Ministry. The people of Jammu & Kashmir — and India — deserve answers, not slogans,' he added.

'Determined to destroy education': AAP MP Sanjay Singh accuses UP government of prioritising alcohol; launches campaign over school closures
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh Aam Aadmi Party's Uttar Pradesh in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Yogi Adityanath-led government over the state's educational infrastructure. He said it was shameful that in a state where millions of children study in government schools, thousands of these schools have either been shut down or are operating in unsafe and crumbling buildings, while liquor shops are rapidly increasing. "Yogi government is snatching books from children and handing them liquor bottles," said Sanjay. Citing official data, Singh said there are 1.93 lakh vacant teaching positions at the primary level in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, 3,872 posts are unfilled in secondary education and 8,714 in senior secondary education. He said that even though the government acknowledges nearly two lakh vacant teacher posts, no serious recruitment plan has been announced. "Why is the Yogi government silent on over 2 lakh teacher vacancies?" he asked. In several districts, entire primary schools are being managed by just one teacher. In Prayagraj alone, 633 schools have been declared dangerous due to their poor structural condition. Singh alleged that the Yogi government has already shut down over 27,000 government schools and is preparing to close 5,000 more, citing low student attendance. He said this drop in enrollment is due to the government's failure to provide adequate teachers and basic infrastructure, pushing schools into decline. He criticised what he called the 'double engine government,' pointing out that while schools are being shut down, 27,308 liquor shops have been opened in the state, even though the government claims the treasury is empty. 'The government cares more about liquor outlets than education,' he said, adding that Uttar Pradesh spends only ₹9,167 per student annually on education, well below the national average of Rs 12,768. Singh claimed that the Yogi government does not want children of the poor, Dalits, backward classes, or farmers to receive an education and progress in life. He said schools are either being merged or left to decay. 'We will go village to village and tell people that the Yogi government is taking away books from children and giving them liquor bottles instead,' said Singh. 'Our campaign with the slogan 'We want schools, not liquor shops' will continue until every child in the state has access to a teacher, a school, and the right to education.' He warned that if the government does not begin recruiting teachers, repair dilapidated schools, and reopen the ones that were shut down, the Aam Aadmi Party will raise this issue strongly, from the streets to the Parliament, and expose the government at every level.
