Apple's latest sale is here: Shop deals on MacBook Air and Pro models at Amazon and Walmart

NBC News04-03-2025

I have considered the Apple MacBook Air one of the best deals in tech for a while now — I've had my own Air M1 for half a decade and it still runs smoothly. It's able to stream TV shows and music without a hitch. I can also do light photo editing and surf the web, all done by a laptop released in 2020. This isn't to say that there aren't better options out there, but if you only want to spend $629 on a new laptop within the Apple ecosystem you know you'll be in good hands with the M1 model.
This latest Apple sale also has deals on more updated models including the MacBook Air M2 ($799) and M3 ($899). You can also pick up the much more powerful MacBook Pro models with decent discounts. If you were on the fence about jumping into the Apple laptop line, this is a good time to grab a MacBook on sale.
The best Apple MacBook deals
Apple MacBook Air M2
If you travel or work remotely, this is one of the best laptops for the price. It's compact and lightweight. It also gets up to 18 hours of battery life — more than enough to go without a charge for a couple of days, in my experience. The M2 is currently 20% off, a great discount for a laptop that can easily work for years. It has 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a bright liquid retina display.
The M1 MacBook Air was released in 2020, but still delivers great performance in a compact size. NBC Select editorial projects manager Rebecca Rodriguez has used this model for years to tackle emails, spreadsheets, task management and streaming. I've also used this MacBook Air as my main laptop for five years. I'm able to stream shows and edit documents with very little issue. It's lightweight and portable and gets up to 18 hours of battery life, according to the brand. While it might not move as fast and have as many ports as other MacBooks, it is more than enough for most people's needs, especially at such a low price.
Apple MacBook Pro M4
'The M4 is an excellent all-round laptop that I would recommend to any creative professional. I can open dozens (read: way too many) tabs, hop on video calls and edit large video sequences in programs like Adobe Premiere Pro without the computer slowing down or getting too hot to handle,' says Rabinowitz. The screen is bright with vibrant colors and the highest resolution of any laptop on this list. It is slightly heavier and larger than the MacBook Air models, but you get better performance overall.
Apple MacBook Air M3
NBC Select staff have used different MacBook Air laptops for years. This M3 model is a good fit for anyone, outside of creative professionals and gamers. It has a high-resolution screen and a speedy processor. 'I can have tons of tabs open, tackle video calls and browse spreadsheets without slowing down,' says NBC Select reporter Harry Rabinowitz. This M3 version has a faster processor than the previous version and has 16GB of memory by default for even more speed.
Why trust NBC Select?
I am an editor at NBC Select who writes and edits stories on various topics including tech, fitness, home and more. I have covered major shopping holidays and other events for over five years. I've also tested and tried tech products for over five years including headphones, speakers and computers.

You Won't Believe What macOS Tahoe Is Hiding!

Apple's macOS Tahoe marks a pivotal step forward in the evolution of its desktop operating system. With the introduction of the 'liquid glass' design, touch-friendly interface updates, and hints of cellular connectivity, this update signals a potential reimagining of the Mac experience. These changes suggest a future where Apple's ecosystem becomes even more unified and versatile, offering you a seamless and innovative way to interact with your devices. The detailed video below from GregsGadgets giuves us more details on what to expect from macOS Tahoe Watch this video on YouTube. What Is the Liquid Glass Design? The 'liquid glass' design in macOS Tahoe introduces a sleek and modern aesthetic that prioritizes both form and function. This design emphasizes depth, smooth transitions, and a tactile user experience, creating a visually engaging interface. Rounded corners, larger interface elements, and a refined color palette bring macOS closer in appearance to iOS and iPadOS, establishing a unified design language across Apple's product lineup. For you, this means a more intuitive and consistent experience when switching between devices. The enlarged buttons and rounded display corners are not only visually appealing but also suggest that macOS is evolving to support touch interaction. These design choices hint at Apple's preparation for a future where Macs may offer new ways to interact with their interfaces, bridging the gap between traditional desktop functionality and modern touch-based usability. Is Apple Finally Embracing Touchscreen Macs? Apple has historically resisted the idea of touchscreen Macs, arguing that macOS is optimized for precision input through a mouse or trackpad. However, macOS Tahoe challenges this long-standing stance. The updated interface includes larger sliders, toggles, and buttons, which are ergonomically suited for touch input, mirroring the design principles seen in iPadOS. This shift aligns with Apple's methodical approach to innovation. For example, the introduction of windowed multitasking on iPadOS—a feature originally exclusive to macOS—demonstrates Apple's strategy of gradually bridging functionality across platforms. If this trend continues, it is plausible that a touchscreen MacBook Pro could debut as early as 2026, potentially featuring OLED displays for enhanced responsiveness and visual clarity. For users like you, this could mean a more versatile Mac experience, blending the precision of traditional input methods with the convenience of touch interaction. What Does This Mean for Future Mac Hardware? The design updates in macOS Tahoe are likely indicative of broader changes in Apple's Mac hardware lineup. Industry speculation suggests that rounded display corners, already a signature feature of iPhones and iPads, will soon make their way to MacBook Pro and iMac models. This would further unify Apple's product design across its devices, creating a cohesive aesthetic that enhances the overall user experience. Another anticipated development is the integration of OLED touchscreen displays. These displays could enable thinner and lighter Macs while maintaining the durability and responsiveness required for touch interaction. For you, this would mean not only a sleeker and more portable device but also new ways to interact with your Mac, enhancing both productivity and creativity. These hardware advancements, combined with the software updates in macOS Tahoe, signal a future where Macs are more adaptable to diverse user needs. Cellular Connectivity: A New Frontier for Macs? One of the most intriguing possibilities hinted at in macOS Tahoe is the integration of cellular connectivity. Apple's development of the C1 modem suggests that future Macs could connect directly to cellular networks, allowing you to stay online without relying on Wi-Fi. This feature would be particularly valuable for professionals who work remotely or frequently travel, offering greater flexibility and reliability in staying connected. The inclusion of a phone app in macOS Tahoe further supports this speculation. This app could enable you to make calls and send messages directly from your Mac, aligning macOS with the capabilities of iOS and iPadOS. For you, this would create a more seamless experience across Apple devices, making it easier to stay connected no matter where you are. Cellular-enabled Macs could also open up new possibilities for mobile productivity, allowing you to work efficiently from virtually anywhere. How Does This Fit into Apple's Ecosystem? The updates in macOS Tahoe reflect Apple's broader strategy to create a more unified and integrated ecosystem. By aligning macOS with iOS and iPadOS in terms of both design and functionality, Apple is working to provide you with a consistent and seamless experience across all its devices. This alignment ensures that features, aesthetics, and usability remain familiar, regardless of whether you are using a Mac, iPhone, or iPad. This strategy also positions Apple to compete more effectively in a market where versatility and connectivity are increasingly important. Whether through the potential introduction of touchscreens, the integration of cellular connectivity, or the adoption of a unified design language, macOS Tahoe represents a step toward a future where your Mac is more adaptable, intuitive, and connected than ever before. For you, this means a more cohesive and efficient workflow, with fewer barriers between devices and greater flexibility in how you use them. The iPhone 17 Pro Max Just Leaked Its BIGGEST Upgrade Yet!

The iPhone 17 series is set to raise the bar in mobile technology, offering a blend of advanced features and refined design. With innovations such as enhanced cooling systems, larger displays, and next-generation chipsets, Apple continues to push the boundaries of smartphone performance. However, these advancements come with a potential increase in price, prompting you to consider whether the upgrades are worth the investment. The video below from SaranByte gives us more details on what to expect from the new iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Watch this video on YouTube. Vapor Chamber Cooling: A Performance Boost One of the most anticipated features of the iPhone 17 Pro is the introduction of vapor chamber cooling technology. This system is engineered to efficiently dissipate heat during resource-intensive activities such as gaming, video editing, or prolonged multitasking. By maintaining optimal operating temperatures for the A19 Pro chipset, this technology ensures consistent performance without throttling. For power users, this translates to smoother app transitions, uninterrupted gaming sessions, and enhanced reliability during demanding tasks. The inclusion of vapor chamber cooling underscores Apple's commitment to delivering a seamless user experience, even under heavy workloads. Refined Design with Meta Lens Technology Apple is reportedly refining the front-facing design of the iPhone 17 Pro with meta lens technology, allowing a smaller and more streamlined Dynamic Island. This adjustment enhances the immersive quality of the display while preserving its functionality. The smaller Dynamic Island not only improves the aesthetic appeal but also optimizes usability, making interactions more intuitive. While the iPhone 17 series benefits from this subtle yet impactful change, major design overhauls are expected to debut with future models. For now, the refined design offers a sleek and modern look that complements the device's advanced capabilities. Enhanced Displays: ProMotion and LTPO Panels The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to expand ProMotion technology, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, to non-Pro models. This upgrade delivers smoother scrolling, more responsive touch interactions, and an overall enhanced visual experience. Additionally, the inclusion of LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) panels allows for dynamic refresh rates, which adjust based on your activity to optimize battery life. While these features elevate the display quality across the lineup, premium functionalities such as always-on displays are likely to remain exclusive to Pro models. This distinction ensures that Pro models continue to cater to users seeking the highest level of performance and innovation. 3nm Chipsets: Power and Efficiency Apple's chipset strategy for the iPhone 17 series introduces a tiered approach, with each model featuring a chipset tailored to its performance needs. The base models are expected to use the A18 chip, while mid-tier and Pro models will likely feature the A19 and A19 Pro chipsets, respectively. Built on a 3nm process, these chipsets promise significant improvements in both performance and energy efficiency. For you, this means faster app launches, smoother multitasking, and longer battery life, even during resource-intensive tasks. The 3nm architecture also highlights Apple's focus on sustainability, as the improved efficiency contributes to reduced energy consumption. Larger Displays for Immersive Experiences The iPhone 17 series is set to feature larger displays across the lineup, catering to users who prioritize screen real estate. The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro are expected to come with 6.3-inch screens, while the Pro Max could offer an expansive 6.9-inch display. Additionally, the rumored iPhone 17 Air may introduce a 6.6-inch screen, striking a balance between portability and functionality. These larger displays are designed to enhance your experience, whether you're streaming videos, gaming, or multitasking. The increased screen size also provides more room for productivity, making the devices suitable for both entertainment and work-related tasks. Pricing and Value Considerations With these advancements, the iPhone 17 series is expected to come with higher price points. Rumored starting prices include $899 for the base model, $1,099 for the Pro, and $1,299 for the Pro Max. Factors such as increased storage capacities, advanced components, and global tariffs contribute to these price hikes. While the enhanced features may justify the cost for some, others might find older or refurbished models to be more budget-friendly alternatives. The decision ultimately depends on your priorities, whether you value innovative technology or prefer a more economical option. Shifts in Global Production Apple continues to diversify its production strategy, with a significant portion of iPhone 17 manufacturing shifting to India for US-bound models. This move aims to reduce supply chain risks, manage production costs, and ensure a steady supply of devices. However, Pro Max models are expected to remain primarily produced in China, reflecting Apple's reliance on established manufacturing hubs for its premium devices. By balancing production across multiple regions, Apple seeks to maintain its global reach while addressing logistical challenges. Evaluating the iPhone 17 Series The iPhone 17 series represents a significant step forward in smartphone technology, offering a range of features designed to enhance performance, usability, and design. From vapor chamber cooling to 3nm chipsets and larger displays, the series caters to both performance enthusiasts and everyday users. However, the accompanying price increases may prompt you to carefully weigh the value of these features against their cost. Whether you choose to invest in the latest model or explore alternative options, the iPhone 17 series underscores Apple's ongoing commitment to innovation and user satisfaction.
