Gregg Wallace fired by BBC
Taking to Instagram today, The host of the BBC hit Cooking show wrote ' I have taken the decision to speak out ahead of the publication of the Silkins report – a decision I do not take lightly'.
'But after 21 years of loyal service to the BBC, I cannot sit in silence while my reputation is further damaged to protect others. I have now been cleared by the Silkins report of the most serious and sensational accusations made against me' . Gregg Wallace. Pic: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock
The news today that he has been fired from the BBC comes nine months after his production company Banijay launched a full investigation into his reported behaviour on the hit show, and the company also invited anyone who had worked or appeared on Masterchef to come forward and share their experiences.
Some of the allegations levelled against Wallace came from several well known public figures, but there were said to be around 30 women who came forward with accusations of misconduct, some of which dated back many years, while Penny Lancaster, Kirstie Allsop, Vanessa Feltz and Kirsty Wark also spoke out about their experiences of working with Wallace. However, all of the most serious claims have been found to be baseless after a full investigation lasting over six months.
The complaints began with 13 women coming forward, this figure later rose to around 30, some of which were historical allegations of misconduct and afterwards Wallace was again critisised and slammed online for his comments on Instagram describing his accusers as 'a handful of middle class women of a certain age' Pic: Instagram/ BBC
While his time at the BBC is now over, and he is said to be devastated and angry over the outcome, he will be vindicated of some of the more serious allegations thrown at him, including allegations of 'groping'.
The report will also include the bullying allegations brought by Penny Lancaster – and made public by her husband, rock star Rod Stewart, who accused Gregg of humiliating and bullying his wife during her appearance on Celebrity Masterchef in 2021. These allegations have been dismissed by The Silkins inquiry after forensic analysis of the rushes, the footage of the show, which was analyzed and determined no evidence to support the claims.
There were two further categories in which he is believed to have been cleared altogether, and those were identified as 'having nicknames for staff which some considered 'demeaning' and being 'direct' with contestants. The investigation team found both of these were 'unintentional'.
It is also understood that Gregg Wallace was recently diagnosed with autism, and this has been used to explain away some of his so called 'inappropriate behaviour' and much of the language he used in dealing with staff, contestants and guests. Investigators have explained this as his 'black and white thinking' due to his diagnosis of autism. Gregg Wallace – Pic: Rex
However, several allegations against Wallace have been upheld, including that he got his private parts out, covered by a sock and opened his dressing room door shouting 'Hooray' and he has also been found against in terms of his use of inappropriate language and use of 'sexualised jokes'
The official report into the claims and allegations will be published on Thursday but Wallace is said to be devastated and angry at his axing from the BBC.

It was hired by MasterChef production company Banijay to conduct a thorough investigation. The BBC said last night it had not seen the Banijay report. But its story said the corporation had been contacted by people across a range of shows and settings. Most allegations were said to centre on inappropriate sexual comments, though 11 women are said to have accused him of inappropriate sexual behaviour. That behaviour is said to include groping and touching. The allegations raise fresh questions for the Beeb and Banijay over their oversight of Wallace's alleged behaviour and their duty of care to staff. She told the BBC she had spoken up after being angered by Wallace's Instagram video last year which saw him claim allegations had come from 'a handful of middle-class women of a certain age'. The Beeb reported her as saying: 'Is he saying it was OK to behave that way with younger women, like I was at the time?' Esther did not complain at the time, but has contributed to the Banijay inquiry. Yesterday, Wallace said: 'I will not go quietly. I will not be cancelled for convenience.
