It may not be a matter in their own backyard, but the Minnesota Vikings couldn't sit back and watch the suffering from afar.

Since the early morning of July 4, extreme rainfall and flash flooding have ravaged parts of Texas, resulting in over 100 deaths and more than 173 missing people.
On Tuesday, July 9, the Vikings announced the organization has committed $500,000 to support rescue and recovery efforts from the floods in Kerr County and Texas Hill Country.
"We are deeply saddened by the continued devastation and loss of life in the Texas Hill Country and can't imagine the pain so many are experiencing," the Wilf family wrote in a statement. "We are praying for peace for the families who have lost a loved one and strength for those who continue to risk their lives leading the rescue and recovery efforts."
ESPN's Adam Schefter amplified the message of solidarity, sharing the statement on X, which garnered over 100,000 views in the first hour of the post, which led to many across the nation to applaud the organization's generosity.

"The Vikings have been doing this type of help for years," one fan wrote. "Heck of an organization. Set the standard."
"Vikings have always been a class act," a second fan replied.
"Major kudos. There does not appear to be any connection between the Wilf's/Vikings to Central Texas or even Texas at all," a third fan added.
The Vikings have a reputation for taking initiative in supporting those in need. In January, the Vikings donated $1 million to California wildfire relief and surpassed $5 million donated just months into the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Finally! Longhorns win recruiting battle for four-star CB Samari Matthews
Texas has had a rough patch in recruiting. During the Fourth of July week, the Longhorns lost nine recruiting battles in a row, then saw a tenth prospect commit elsewhere this week. But the streak is over. UT has landed a commitment from four-star cornerback Samari Matthews. The Cornelius, NC native chose Texas over South Carolina, Miami, and Florida State. Matthews ranks as the nation's No. 6 cornerback and No. 5 best player from North Carolina and No. 57 overall, according to 247Sports industry rankings. Currently, the Longhorns 2026 class includes one cornerback, three-star Hayward Howard Jr. While he is a talented prospect, adding more depth at the position is key for UT. Matthews took official visits to all four of his finalists over the past few weeks. What stood out about Texas? "What stood out was the players and staff, and how much they all love being around each other," Matthews told Horns247 in June. "I can't really tell you why I like Texas, I've just always liked it. It's something about them that stands out to me." Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.

Texas' recruiting struggles could end tonight—will a four-star choose the Longhorns or South Carolina?
Texas' recruiting struggles could end tonight—will a four-star choose the Longhorns or South Carolina? originally appeared on A to Z Sports. Hough (N.C.) cornerback Samari Matthews will decide Friday between Texas, South Carolina, Florida State, and Miami on YouTube. As of this writing, recruiting analysts are predicting the Longhorns to receive good news. But things could potentially shift as the time to commit approaches. Advertisement Matthews is the the No. 70 overall prospect, the No. 9 cornerback, and the No. 6 recruit in the state of North Carolina, per Rivals' Industry Ranking. The 6-foot, 180 pound recruit was rarely tested in his junior season, finishing with 19 tackles and two interceptions. 247Sports' scouting analyst Clint Brewster evaluated Matthew in-person earlier this summer. The takeaways were eye-opening. Matthews qualifies as one of the top-tier cornerbacks in the class as a complete player that's checked boxes in terms of physical ability and testing metrics. Adequate height/weight/speed with ability to shell and mirror in both man coverage of zone situations. Stays lockstep both underneath and over the top with quick-reacting traits and physicality through contested catches. Pattern match skills that translates to the next level. Very technically sound and can read, drive, and finish. The type of cornerback that can matchup against bigger wide outs and hold his own. Doesn't get much action his way to show off ball skills and athleticism when the football is in the air. Projects as a Day-2 draft pick with multi-year starter potential for a an elite college team. - Clint Brewster, 247Sports View the original article to see embedded media. South Carolina is the biggest threat to Texas heading into Samari Matthews' announcement. On3's Wes Mitchell, South Carolina recruiting analyst, gave his thoughts on the head-to-head matchup this week. With the caveat that things can always change in recruiting, my expectation is that Cornelius (N.C.) Hough four-star cornerback Samari Matthews will pick Texas on Friday. It's gone, at least from the info I've gathered, from being something I thought was at least a possibility to being the expectation. While Texas did enter the game later than other schools that were in the mix, cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey was heavily involved with Matthews when he was at Rutgers, so there was a long-standing relationship here that predated the Longhorns officially getting involved. - Wes Mitchell, On3 The Longhorns only have two defensive back commits in the 2026 class so this one is big. Matthews is predicted by most to pick Texas this evening, but this commitment could go a lot further than just a checkmark in the commitment column. The recent struggles on the trail won't seem as bad if the talented prospect says "hook 'em" before the weekend starts. Buccaneers' Tight End Missing From Elite List
Buccaneers' Tight End Missing From Elite List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While some Tampa Bay Buccaneers players are finally starting to garner some national attention, others are not. This offseason, we've seen the likes of Mike Evans, Bucky Irving, Tristan Wirfs, Baker Mayfield, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Jamel Dean honored on "best of" lists representing Tampa Bay. Advertisement But as we peruse ESPN's top 10 tight ends in the NFL ahead of the 2025 season, there's no Bucs player to be found - no Cade Otton. Is that deserved? Maybe. Otton is good. He's good for the Bucs. But is he elite? Certainly an argument could be made that he's not. Especially with his history of drops. Otton was a fourth-round pick by the Bucs in 2022 out of then-Pac-12 powerhouse Washington. He had an impressive rookie campaign with 391 yards and two touchdowns, but suffered from drops. He posted just 42 catches on 65 targets with five drops, leading all tight ends. The next season wasn't much better, with three drops on 67 targets, and he got worse last season. In 2024, Otton posted 59 catches on 87 targets with 600 yards and four touchdowns but eight drops. Advertisement If Otton can clean up his pass catching, he'd be a far more effective offensive tool for Mayfield and the Bucs. In ProFootballFocus' rankings earlier this season, Otton was No. 20 overall, which actually sounds a little high, honestly. "Otton's Achilles' heel is drops. He has the third most (11) at the position across the past two years. His 63.1 PFF receiving grade in 2024 was a career high and also marks the first time he generated more than 1 yard per route run (1.31). If he can hang on to the ball (also three fumbles the past two years), Otton has the skills to rise on this list."
