It was sadly announced this week that Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, a college student in Cyberjaya, was found dead in her dorm room. She was just 20 years old.
Kaur, a physiotherapy student at the University of Cyberjaya, was left alone in her dormitory starting on June 21. While the events leading up to her death are still unclear, the police found no signs of forced entry or sexual assault.
The cause of death for Kaur was blunt force trauma to the head. A man and two women were arrested in connection to this killing.
"The arrests were made within 48 hours of the report being received," district police chief Norhizam Bahaman said. "We hope the public will not speculate on the case or share unverified news that could jeopardize the investigation … We will take stern action on any unlawful act."
Even though arrests were made this week, that doesn't erase the pain that Kaur's family is feeling.
"I don't know how to respond. We're still devastated from Maniisha's death, and now we've lost another family member," Kaur's uncle said, via the Hindustan Times.
Prayers have been pouring in for the Kaur family over the past few days.
"This morning, I took the time to visit the family of the late Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, the victim of the tragic incident at Mutiara Ville, Cyberjaya, before making my way to Putrajaya. I spent some time speaking with the grieving family," Nancy Shukri wrote. "I extend my deepest condolences to the family on their heartbreaking loss. May they be granted strength and perseverance during this time of sorrow."
"The loss of Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara is a tragedy that has touched many hearts. Her passing is not merely a loss, but also a question that demands answers," one person said.
"Shocked and saddened RIP Maniishapriet," another person wrote on X.
Our thoughts remain with the victim's loved ones.Prayers Pouring In After College Student Found Dead In Dorm Room first appeared on The Spun on Jun 28, 2025

Search underway for man who fell into Mississippi River

Ontario Provincial Police officers searched overnight but were unable to find a man who fell off his boat into the Mississippi River Saturday evening near Appleton, Ont. Police got the call that the man had fallen into the river around 9 p.m. on Saturday, a spokesperson told CBC. Officers searched through the night and then used a drone Sunday morning, police said. They were unable to find the man but did locate some of his belongings along the shoreline. When the local officers' ability to keep searching was exhausted, an underwater search-and-recovery team was called in sometime Sunday morning, OPP said. The situation is now being considered a recovery mission, OPP said, meaning they believe the man is likely dead. As of 12:30 p.m. on Sunday the team had not arrived at the scene yet and police could not say when they would arrive.

Teen arrested for random machete attack in Winnipeg

Winnipeg Police say a 15-year-old boy is in custody after an unprovoked machete attack left a 68-year-old man with serious injuries on Friday. On Friday around 8:20 p.m., a man was randomly assaulted on Henry Avenue, near the Disraeli Freeway, by a teenage boy armed with a machete, according to a police release. Police say when they arrived on scene, a witness told them the 68-year-old man was walking past the Salvation Army when he was assaulted by a 15-year-old boy who was carrying a machete. The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable, and police say he requires surgery to repair the damage done by the assault. The 15-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon and was detained in custody. None of the allegations have been tested in court. More from CBC News:
