Russian TikTokers arrested after filming burning oil depot from Ukraine attack

ALBAWABA - Two Russian TikTokers, 21-year-old Dasha Vladimirova and 19-year-old Karina Evgenieva, were recently arrested alongside an unnamed man after filming a burning oil depot in Adler, Sochi. The burning oil depot, which was set on fire after being targeted by a Ukrainian drone attack, belonged to Russia's biggest oil company, Rosneft, and Kubannefteprodukt. The oil depot might've been targeted due to news circulating that the company in question reportedly supplies fuel to the Russian military. The trio casually filmed themselves in front of the burning oil depot with the song "Crimson Dawn" by popular Russian rapper Endshpil playing in the background. The nature of the video and the song's title were deemed inappropriate by Russian authorities, which prompted the arrest. Several outlets in Russia, mostly Kremlin-aligned, demanded an apology from the trio while calling the video an "act of moral betrayal." Russian police published a video showing the TikTok influencers reportedly apologizing for their actions. Additionally, reports circulating on social media claim that they were fined up to 30,000 rubles for "failure to comply with rules of conduct in an emergency or the threat of its occurrence." A video circulating online captured the detained influencers discussing with the police and later apologizing for their actions. The girl is being charged under the article 'Failure to comply with rules of conduct in an emergency or the threat of its occurrence,' which carries a fine of up to 30,000 rubles. The police published a video showing the young people at the station, where they apologize for…

Suspects on trial over Moscow venue attack that killed 149

MOSCOW — Nineteen people went on trial in Moscow on Monday over an attack on a city concert hall that killed 149 people in one of the deadliest strikes in Russia. Armed men stormed the Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow on March 22 last year, opening fire and then setting the building alight, injuring hundreds of people. The Islamic State [IS] group claimed responsibility. The four suspected attackers, all from Tajikistan, an ex-Soviet republic in Central Asia, and another 15 people accused of being accomplices have gone on trial. An AFP reporter at the courtroom saw some of the defendants in glass cages, their hands cuffed behind their backs. Around 30 survivors were also present. Subsequent hearings were to take place on Tuesday and Thursday, according to the court's website. The attack shocked Russia, which was battling Ukraine in a military offensive that it started on February 24, 2022. Despite the IS claim of responsibility, Russia implicated Ukraine in the attack, an allegation that Kyiv called baseless and absurd. Nearly half of the victims were killed by smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation from the fire that broke out, not from gunfire, the state TASS news agency reported on Sunday, citing case materials. The attack sparked a wave of xenophobia against Central Asian migrants in Russia.
