Legendary jockey with over 2000 winners investigated over racist outburst in street

Daily Mirror4 days ago
A video has emerged of veteran jockey Noel Callow, who has ridden over 2,000 winners, abusing pedestrians while riding a bike along the footpath
A legendary jockey is the subject of another investigation after he was caught making a racist four-letter outburst in the street. Noel Callow, nicknamed 'the King', has ridden over 2,000 winners including five at Group 1 level earning over £20 million in Australia.

He has also been at the centre of recent controversy having just completed a two month ban imposed after he was concussed in a fight with another jockey which was started by the 50-year-old in May this year. Australian racing outlet Racenet said it had confirmed video believed to have been taken last year was being reviewed by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission.

"A video was recently brought to the attention of the Commission," a QRIC spokesperson said. "It is presently the subject of an investigation."

Racenet has seen two clips, including one in which Callow films an encounter with an indigeous man in which he is heard saying, "Have you showered? F*** you stink like f***."
The man is heard telling him he has no job and sleeps on the street and after declining Callow's offer of some pizza, replies, 'I want a beer.'
Callow says: "You want a beer … if you have a shower, I'll buy you a beer." The man responds: 'I don't have a shower. There's no shower in the friggin area."
"Well jump in the f****** creek … for f***'s sake man," Callow says.
Callow then begins to sing a famous anthem called Treaty, by the part-aboriginal group Yothi Yindi.
In the shorter other clip Callow, who is carrying a whip, is riding his bike along the pavement, up behind pedestrians.
"Look at these c****," Callow said, then after being warned by a pedestrian to "watch out where you're riding your bike", he fires back, '"Stop walking on the f—ing footpath, you f****** c**ns."

However, that run ended as they were denied a historic 3-0 whitewash, with Australia deservedly winning an eventful final Test in Sydney. ‌ The disappointment of defeat in the third Test seemingly didn't last for long, however, as the following day saw Farrell's men celebrate as they popped in to the popular Coogee Bay Hotel for a spot of lunch. "They were really great to the fans and a real energy. It was a pretty awesome experience and it's been a great trip." After losing in the final Test, Farrell admitted that it "might take one or two beers" for his players to understand what they had achieved on tour, as he described the experience as "the time of our lives". ‌ Content cannot be displayed without consent 'There's frustration because we wanted to win every game, but the best team won here,' the head coach said. 'It might take one or two beers, but they should be unbelievably proud of what they've achieved on this tour. 'It's been the time of our lives. I know it sounds a bit dramatic, but it's the truth. We got to create a special memory together. I'm unbelievably proud to be associated with this group. "Lions tours are tough, and to do what we did last week and put the series in the bag, upon reflection after tonight, I'm sure we'll be super proud of the achievement.'

Bluey episode unexpectedly pulled from screens for 'tough' reason

One episode of Bluey has been causing a stir after it was completely removed from the network, ABC An episode of Bluey has been unexpectedly pulled from screens for a "tough" reason. ‌ The series, which has been a worldwide success, first ventured onto Australian screens in 2020. It follows a family of dogs and its main titular, Bluey Heeler, a young pup navigating life with her family—Dad Bandit, Mum Chilli, and younger sister Bingo. ‌ After its success Down Under, the now children's favourite ventured over to the UK, where it is available to download on BBC iPlayer and Disney. ‌ The friction over the episode in question follows a recent promotion between BBC Studios and Australian hardware store Bunnings, meaning that the decision was reached to remove one episode from the network as a result. In the season 2 episode, Bluey's father, Bandit, hopes to build his own pizza oven and heads to a local hardware store to purchase supplies. ‌ Bandit is shown in Hammerbarn fetching supplies. The issue was fuelled after Bunnings rolled out its own products connected with the show, including garden gnomes, rugs, hats, socks, and tote bags. The store also hosts their very own Bluey-themed scavenger hunts and events associated with the programme. Due to the advertising crossover, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation—a government-funded organisation—has had to disassociate itself from the episode. They operate under a strict rule of no advertising and taking part in commercial partnerships. ‌ "This campaign is a BBC Studios and Bunnings partnership," stated an ABC representative to Channel Nine. They further added: "As the ABC cannot align with a commercial brand or partnership, the Bluey episode Hammerbarn will temporarily be unavailable on ABC iView while the Bunnings Hammerbarn campaign is live." However, it's not all bad news for fans, as ABC confirmed that it would return that very episode to its network iView "at a later date". ‌ A Bunnings spokesperson was also disappointed by the decision, with representative Melissa O'Neill telling Kidspot the company was disappointed by the outcome. She said, "It's sad to think that they can't enjoy the episode. And particularly given Bluey fans can buy merchandise from a range of retailers and sites both in Australia and overseas." The missing episode has caused great upset, with Kate McMahon, host of the Bluey podcast Gotta Be Done, stating it was "really tough". She explained: "Hammerbarn is one of the most iconic Bluey episodes, and so to have it removed from the platform is a shame. A lot of parents rely on an episode of Bluey to get them through the day, so to lose one like this is really tough." Bluey is streaming on BBC iPlayer and Disney Plus in the UK.

Hong Kong imposes new measures on overseas-based activists

Hong Kong authorities strengthened a crackdown on 16 overseas-based activists who were previously targeted by bounties on suspicion of endangering national security, implementing measures that include banning financial support to them and cancelling passports for most of them. The activists were among 19 people who were targeted with arrest warrants in July for alleged roles in Hong Kong Parliament, a group the police called a subversive organisation abroad. The organisation is not the city's official legislature and its influence is limited. Three of the original 19 activists were already targeted by similar measures last year. Secretary for Security Chris Tang banned providing funds or economic resources to the 16 activists, including Victor Ho, Keung Ka-wai, Australian academic Chongyi Feng and US citizen Gong Sasha, the Hong Kong government said in a statement. Travel documents were cancelled for 12 of the 16 who hold Hong Kong passports. The government also prohibited properties from being leased to the people on the list or forming joint ventures with them. Anyone violating the orders risks a penalty of up to seven years in prison. The 16 activists are hiding in the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, Australia, Thailand and Taiwan, among other regions, the government said, accusing them of continuing to engage in activities endangering national security. The notice also accused them of intending to incite hatred against Beijing and Hong Kong through smear and slander. 'We therefore have taken such measures to make a significant impact,' the statement said. Beijing imposed a national security law on the territory in 2020 that has effectively wiped out most public dissent following huge anti-government protests in 2019. Many activists were arrested, silenced or forced into self-exile. The measures announced Monday were issued under the powers granted by Hong Kong's homegrown national security law enacted last year. The arrest warrants issued in July have drawn criticism from foreign governments, including the US, the UK and the European Union. Police offered rewards of 200,000 Hong Kong dollars (£19,178) to one million Hong Kong dollars (£95,889) for information leading to their arrests. In a July statement, US secretary of state Marco Rubio condemned the moves. 'The extraterritorial targeting of Hong Kongers who are exercising their fundamental freedoms is a form of transnational repression,' he said. 'We will not tolerate the Hong Kong government's attempts to apply its national security laws to silence or intimidate Americans or anyone on US soil.' The Hong Kong office of the Chinese foreign ministry responded by opposing criticism from foreign politicians, insisting the actions were legitimate.
