Forgotten Arsenal star finally leaves for Lazio - three years after his last appearance
The 25-year-old moved to the Emirates from Benfica in the summer of 2021 and made 28 appearances in all competitions during his debut season, scoring once in a 3-1 win against Manchester United.
Part of a side that finished fifth, narrowly missing out on qualification for the Champions League and laying the foundations for title challenges that came in the following seasons, he was ultimately deemed surplus to requirements in the face of competition from Oleksandr Zinchenko, who joined in the summer of 2022.
Tavares spent the next three seasons on loan at Marseille, Nottingham Forest and Lazio, with whom he has now signed a three-year deal.
He recorded nine league assists for the Rome side as they finished seventh in Serie A last season and earned his first senior international cap for Portugal in November in a 5-1 Nations League win over Poland.
In a statement, the Gunners said: 'Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Nuno for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.'
The full back has endured multiple loan spells in the last three years and has not featured for Arsenal since 2022

Aug 2 (Reuters) - Newcastle United have signed former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton on a season-long loan, the Premier League club said on Saturday. The 27-year-old England goalkeeper, who made the second-most saves in the league last season at 125, has worked with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe during his spell at Bournemouth. "Aaron is an exceptional goalkeeper... Having worked with him before, I know what he can bring to us on and off the pitch, so we look forward to welcoming him into the group," Howe said. United also raised £20.7m from sell-on clauses including Anthony Elanga's switch to Newcastle, moves for Alvaro Fernandez and Maxi Oyedele, and the £5m paid by Chelsea to pull out of their deal to sign Jadon Sancho. In addition, United's failure to qualify for Europe this season – for only the second time in 35 years - means they are not bound by UEFA'S limit of spending no more than 70 per cent of annual income on transfers and wages. The structure of the deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who cost a combined £133.5m, with payments spread over instalments, has given United greater freedom to spend.
