249 evacuated in Surat as rain continues to lash state, orange alert in many districts till June 30
Till 6 pm, 120 talukas across the state received rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued an 'orange alert' for several districts till June 30.
Nandod and Tilakwada in Narmada district received 220 mm (8.66 inch) and 181 mm (7.13 inch) rainfall, respectively, from 6 am till 4 pm.
Among talukas, which received heavy rainfall, were Dahod at 180 mm, Shehera in Panchmahal (159 mm), Vapi in Valsad (154 mm), Jetpur Pavi in Chhota Udepur (152 mm), Dharampur (144 mm) and Pardi (130 mm) in Valsad, Songadh in Tapi (128 mm), Garudeshwar in Narmada (125 mm), Vyara in Tapi (124 mm), Bardoli in Surat (124 mm), Godhra (117 mm) and Morva Hadaf (117 mm) in Panchmahal, Khergam in Navsari (116 mm), Sankheda in Chhota Udepur (112 mm), Halol in Panchmahal (107 mm), Lunawada in Mahisagar (103 mm), Dediapada in Narmada (103 mm), and Netrang in Bharuch (101 mm).
Surat city and its talukas also witnessed heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, leading to a rise in the water levels of creeks and rivers. As several areas were inundated with rainwater, schools in Surat remained shut on Tuesday. Water also entered shops and basements of textile markets, causing significant loss to traders.
As per data from the Surat flood control department, from 8am on Monday till 4pm on Tuesday, Surat city received 170 mm of rainfall, Olpad 47 mm, Umarpada 92 mm, Mandvi 93 mm, Kamrej 139 mm, Choryasi 38 mm, Palsana 93 mm, Bardoli 168 mm and Mahuva 111 mm.
A total of 62 roads in the different talukas of Surat were closed and villagers were advised to take alternate routes. Policemen were deployed on these roads to keep people away.
On Tuesday morning, Surat District Education Officer Dr Bhagirathsinh Parmar instructed government and self-financed primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools to keep their schools closed on Tuesday. Meanwhile, water entered Adarsh Residential School campus in Sarthana on Tuesday afternoon, prompting fire department officials of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to rescue 85 students and 15 teachers. They were evacuated and shifted to an SMC-run school in Sarthana. Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agrawal visited the school on Tuesday afternoon to review arrangements made for the students.
Besides, 149 residents of Gangapur and Dhamdod villages in Palsana taluka were rescued after water entered their homes, and were shifted to a nearby government primary school.
A student from Surat's Katodara village, who had to take his examination at a centre in Katargam was dropped at the centre by a PCR van after he called for help. Apart from this, as rainwater entered Halpativas in Bardoli's Baben village, food and water were distributed to around 500 people by the district panchayat officials.
After an electric pole at the Antroli crossroad junction in Surat collapsed, the power distribution and traffic were affected. Services were later restored.
SMC teams reached inundated areas, accompanied by mobile medical vans, conducted health screenings and distributed medicines to people. Teams also reached Mithi Creek and Dumbhal Fire Station areas and cleared waterlogged areas. Cleaning staffers were also deployed in other zones.
Federation of Surat Trade and Textile Association chief Kailash Hakim said, 'The rainwater accumulated in the basements and ground floors of around ten markets, including Raghukul, J D textile market, Silk Plaza, Millennium textile market 1, Someshwara, Anmol. We have appealed to the management of the markets to allow traders to shift their goods to empty floors or shops. There were power cuts at ten textile markets. The market authorities have started clearing the water.'
Orange alert has been issued for Banaskantha and Sabarkantha on June 26; Sabarkantha and Aravalli on June 27; Banaskantha and Sabarkantha June 28, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha on June 29; and Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Navsari and Valsad for June 30 — with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall. The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall for the rest of the state till June 30.

The weather today will be generally cloudy with very light to light rain accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning. Meanwhile, the temperature is expected to remain between 24-36 degree celsius. On Friday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees below normal for this time of the year, reported PTI. Yellow alert in Gurugram and Faridabad According to the regional Met Centre, Chandigarh, a yellow alert has been issued in Gurugram, Faridabad and Mahendragarh for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning. In past few days, Gurgaon received heavy rainfall that led to waterlogging in many parts of the city. IMD has predicted light rainfall in isolated places of Ambala, Palwal, Mewat, Jhajhar and Rewari. Heavy rainfall in parts of Himachal Amid the ongoing monsoon disaster, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday issued a yellow alert for Solan and Sirmaur. There was no warning for other areas of the state. Cloudbursts, landslides, floods and other rain related incidents in the state has led to the death of at least 91 people, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), reported ANI. For the next few days, yellow alerts will be observed in some places including Solan, Sirmaur and Shimla on July 13 and 14. Widespread rain likely across India till July 17; Delhi-NCR hit by waterlogging, traffic jams
Intermittent rainfall is expected across large parts of the country till July 17, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy showers in several regions, including the National Capital Region (NCR). The NCR is witnessing waterlogging and traffic disruptions at several places due to the rains, which have already affected daily life. In Delhi-NCR, rain is likely to continue throughout the week, with spells of strong sunlight causing humidity and discomfort. However, no official weather alert has been issued yet for the Delhi-NCR, but the IMD has warned of persistent rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range between 23 and 36 degrees Celsius, while humidity may hover between 60 per cent and 95 per cent. Waterlogging has been reported from several parts of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, leading to long traffic jams and vehicle breakdowns in inundated areas. Major roads, underpasses, and residential colonies remain affected. According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Central and Northwest India, particularly East Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and both western and eastern Uttar Pradesh till July 17. The IMD said isolated heavy rain is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal (both Gangetic and Sub-Himalayan regions) in eastern and central India. On July 13, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Konkan & Goa, Gujarat, Central Maharashtra, and Saurashtra. According to the weather department, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is forecast to continue over the next seven days in Northeast India. Southern states, including Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, are also likely to receive isolated heavy showers during the same period. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal till July 16.

Cloudy skies, light showers continue in the capital; AQI remains satisfactory Delhi and surrounding regions remained under pleasant weather conditions on Saturday after recent showers brought down soaring temperatures and provided relief from the heat and humidity earlier in the week. The city awoke to overcast skies and mild temperatures, following moderate rainfall on July 11. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a slight uptick in temperatures in the coming days, light rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue through the day. No weather warnings have been issued for Delhi. The IMD has forecast very light to light rainfall across the city, along with occasional lightning. Maximum temperatures are expected to settle between 34–36 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels peaking at around 82 per cent. Cloud cover is likely to remain consistent throughout the day. Air quality in Delhi remains in the 'satisfactory' range. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 86 at 9 am on 12 July. Weather forecast for the week The current spell of cloudy and pleasant weather is expected to continue over the weekend and into next week. Light to moderate showers are likely as meteorological conditions remain conducive to rainfall. A cyclonic circulation over northern Haryana and adjacent areas is influencing weather patterns in Delhi, aiding cloud development and rainfall activity. Day temperatures are anticipated to hover between 33–35 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels ranging from 80–90 per cent throughout the week. Yellow alert for parts of Jharkhand from July 13–15 Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a 'yellow alert' for heavy rainfall in several districts of Jharkhand from July 13–15. Intermittent rains are expected to continue across the state during this period, an official said. On July 13, heavy rainfall is likely in Gumla, Khunti, Simdega, Saraikela-Kharswan, and East and West Singhbhum districts. The alert extends to Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Dumka, Jamtara, and other areas on July 14. Monsoon wreaks havoc in Himachal In Himachal Pradesh, relentless monsoon rains have claimed 46 lives over the past nine days, according to the State Disaster Management Authority. Of these, 15 fatalities were directly linked to rain-related incidents such as flash floods and landslides, while 31 resulted from road accidents. Another 27 people are reported missing, all due to rain-related events, and five have sustained injuries. Infrastructure has taken a severe hit, with 184 roads closed and around 791 water supply schemes impacted as of Friday, officials confirmed. Power supply has also been disrupted, with 111 transformers affected. Mandi district remains the worst-hit, accounting for 143 of the 224 closed roads and bearing the brunt of 10 cloudbursts between the night of June 30 and July 1. These triggered flash floods and landslides, resulting in 15 deaths. The disaster has also led to widespread property loss, damaging 824 houses, 622 cow sheds, and 163 shops. Livestock losses have been considerable, with 849 animals reported dead. The local weather department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in isolated areas across three to eight districts in the state, valid until July 15.
