Weather today: Yellow alert for rain in Delhi, Gurugram today
As monsoon is spreading in India its axis has shifted southwards and is currently passing over Bikaner. Due to this, the chances of rain are lower in Chandigarh and surrounding areas. However, light showers may still occur owing to the high humidity levels, according to IMD.
Yellow alert in Delhi for light rain
In Delhi, a yellow alert has been issued for today for entire national capital including north, south and central parts of the city. The weather today will be generally cloudy with very light to light rain accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning. Meanwhile, the temperature is expected to remain between 24-36 degree celsius. On Friday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees below normal for this time of the year, reported PTI.
Yellow alert in Gurugram and Faridabad
According to the regional Met Centre, Chandigarh, a yellow alert has been issued in Gurugram, Faridabad and Mahendragarh for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning. In past few days, Gurgaon received heavy rainfall that led to waterlogging in many parts of the city. IMD has predicted light rainfall in isolated places of Ambala, Palwal, Mewat, Jhajhar and Rewari.
Heavy rainfall in parts of Himachal
Amid the ongoing monsoon disaster, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday issued a yellow alert for Solan and Sirmaur. There was no warning for other areas of the state. Cloudbursts, landslides, floods and other rain related incidents in the state has led to the death of at least 91 people, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), reported ANI. For the next few days, yellow alerts will be observed in some places including Solan, Sirmaur and Shimla on July 13 and 14.

Orange alert in Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, an orange alert has been issued for multiple areas predicting very heavy rainfall today, including in Katni, Mandla, Seoni, Chhindwara, Raisen and Damoh. For other areas of the state, a yellow alert has been issued including in Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Sidhi and Rewa. According to the weekly forecast, in Madhya Pradesh rainfall is expected to be above normal till 18 July.

Orange alerts for MP, east Rajasthan; yellow for Jharkhand IMD has issued a 'yellow alert' for heavy rainfall in parts of Jharkhand from July 13-15. According to a weather department official quoted in a PTI report, intermittent rainfall is likely to continue across the state till July 15. The 'yellow alert' for Jharkhand has been issued for parts of Latehar, Lohardaga, Saraikela-Kharswan, East and West Singhbhum districts on July 13, and for Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Saraikela-Kharswan, East and West Singhbhum on July 14. Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Hazaribag and Koderma might experience heavy rainfall on July 15. The maximum temperature in the city reached 34.8 degrees Celsius, which is 0.7 degrees below normal for this time of year. The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius, with relative humidity levels ranging from 82 per cent in the morning to 62 per cent in the evening. Monsoon sets across India As monsoon spreads across the country, senior IMD Scientist Dr RK Jenamani told Akashvani News that heavy rainfall conditions are expected to continue over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan during the next 3 to 4 days. He also added that similar conditions will continue over the eastern part of the country, including West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, for the next two days.

16-day streak of satisfactory air quality ends in Delhi

(Arvind Yadav/HT photo) Delhi's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) on Saturday was 105 (moderate) at 4pm, a deterioration from 79 (satisfactory) on Friday and 59 on Thursday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board's daily national bulletin. The last time Delhi's AQI was in the moderate category was June 25 — from June 26 to July 11, AQI was in the 'satisfactory' category. Forecasts by Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) for Delhi predict that AQI will return to the satisfactory category by Sunday and remain so till at least Tuesday. Safdarjung, Delhi's base weather station, recorded 1mm of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to 8.30am on Saturday and 15.6mm from 8.30am to 8.30 pm. Palam recorded 8.2mm in 24 hours till 8.30am and 0.6mm throughout the rest of the day. Lodhi Road recorded 0.4mm of rain till 8.30am and 12mm later in the day, and Pusa recorded 13mm in the first half and 1mm of rain later in the day. The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.8°C, 0.7°C below the normal and higher than Friday's 33.2 °C. The minimum was clocked at 26.4°C, higher than Friday's 25.6°C. The India Meteorological department (IMD) has forecast that light rain will continue in the city over the next few days. 'Generally cloudy skies will persist throughout the next week. Very light to light rain along with thunderstorm and lighting is also expected to continue till next at least next Thursday,' said an IMD official. According to IMD, up to 15.5 mm of rainfall is considered light rainfall, 15.6mm to 64.4 mm is considered moderate rainfall, 64.5 mm to 115.5mm is considered heavy rainfall and 115.6mm to 204.4mm is very heavy rainfall.
