Huge blow to Butlin's and Pontins as UK's best holiday park named
Brits looking for their next staycation have been urged to 'look past heavyweights' like Butlin's and Pontins after both were snubbed in the league tables for the UK's best holiday park The UK's best holiday park has been revealed - and it's bad news for the Red Coats. With the cost of living crisis still grappling cash-strapped Brits, many of us are ditching their fortnight abroad for a much more affordable staycation. In fact, data from last year showed a whopping 52 per cent of Brits were opting to holiday in the UK instead of jetting off to the likes of Spain and Greece, with 34 per cent planning for at least two staycations during 2024. Now that the school summer holidays are just around the corner, swathes of households will be searching for a last-minute break to escape the city and relax. As a result, consumer brand Which? has ranked all of the UK's holiday parks - arguing you might want to 'look past heavyweights' like Center Parcs, Butlin's and Pontins. Despite attracting around 1.5 million visitors a year, Butlin's was dealt a huge blow in the league tables - ranking fifth to last. The resort, which has three sites across the UK, scored an overall customer score of 67 per cent. Travellers gave Butlin's a meagre two stars for its value for money, food and drink offerings, and overall customer service, and three stars for its dog friendliness and variety of free facilities. When it came to the 'quality and variety of children's activities', Butlin's received a much more respectable four stars. However, it was Pontins that came scraping in at the bottom - with a 56 per cent overall customer score. "The furnishings were extremely tired, the chairs and beds were incredibly uncomfortable, and the grounds within the complex were mostly overgrown," one visitor scathed. Another agreed, fuming: "It is cheap to book and entertain children. However, the facilities available and prices were below par when actually at the resort." Taking home gold, with an impressive 87 per cent customer score, is Potters Resorts. The adult-only, all-inclusive park has just two locations (one in Norfolk and one in Essex) and prides itself on its 'award-winning hospitality' and 'West End-quality evening entertainment'. Operating for more than 100 years, visitors spent around £110 per person per night - and was hailed for its good value for money (remember this price covers your food and drinks too). "The facilities are excellent," praised one recent traveller. "Activities varied and well organised. Entertainment was outstanding. The all inclusive deal was very good value. Food superb and plentiful." Beautiful European city with £2 pints named 'cheapest for Brits' this summer
The holiday destination in Spain has been labelled as 'better than Magaluf' by Brits who have visited recently, with cheap drinks, stunning beaches and great nightlife A Spanish city just a short hop from the UK has been hailed as 'better than Magaluf' for its vibrant nightlife, budget-friendly booze, and breathtaking views. British holidaymaker Tara stumbled upon the 'hidden gem' of Ballermann in Mallorca and was taken aback by its popularity among European tourists, particularly Germans. Her TikTok video, uploaded by @taraeleanorr, showcasing the lesser-known Spanish locale has gone viral with over 429,000 views, as she touts it as a top spot for Brits looking for a getaway. Tara described the area as a place where you can enjoy 'techno for breakfast, Currywurst on every corner, and a sea of football shirts'. Despite booking her trip to Ballermann by accident, she admitted she would '10/10 go back to Ballermann again. Do you have a travel story to share? Email webtravel@ The clip, which has attracted more than 17,000 likes, highlights the region's attractions, including lively German pubs, a thumping party scene, and gorgeous sunsets that give Magaluf a run for its money. Commenters have been quick to share their own thoughts on the area. One visitor remarked: "Went here last year, was immense." Another commented: "This is better than Magaluf, I've been a few times." Another added: "Absolutely beautiful place, great for drinking on the eve too had a right laugh in the German beer hall style bars." Another person admitted to making the same error, commenting: "Done the same in 2007, was an unreal holiday." Ballermann boasts 15 beach bars scattered along approximately four kilometres of coastline. The El Arenal beach caters perfectly to party-goers and provides numerous nightlife venues. A pint in the region typically costs around £2.50, whilst return flights can be secured for as little as £30 each way from the UK, making it a bargain destination this summer. Just 500 Brits have looked up Ballermann over the past 30 days, a stark contrast to the 252K Brits currently hunting for Magaluf holidays, indicating this area could be Mallorca's best-kept secret for those seeking an exciting break this summer. Travel experts at Travel Republic commented: "The island of Mallorca is a great destination for British holidaymakers looking for a buzzing atmosphere. But if you're searching for great nightlife without the large crowds, then Ballermann may be the location for you. "Due to Ballermann being unknown to many British tourists, it may be less crowded than other areas of the island. British holidaymakers travelling to Ballermann can look forward to sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and delicious food."

Brit drivers told to pack seven emergency items in their car before 3am
Drivers have been issued travel advice following six yellow warnings for thunderstorms and rain across parts of the UK. The conditions should dampen England from 3am on Monday Brits have been urged to pack seven emergency items in their cars as the UK is set to be hit with half a month's rainfall in the next 24 hours. Drivers travelling to work in the morning have been told to brace themselves as six weather warnings for rain and thunderstorms have been put in place. Sadly, fierce conditions will strike parts of the country, with flooding, lightning and hail. As part of the alerts, Brits have been told to expect travel disruption across areas in the UK with Northen Ireland expected to be hit the worst. "You will see quite a lot of water on the roads and difficult driving conditions," warned Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge. According to Autotrader, the best way to minimise the impact is by preparing for traffic and bringing items including a phone charger, water and jump leads. Much of Scotland, northern England, Wales and the south-west of England remain under yellow weather warnings until 10pm on Sunday, where localised flooding remains possible. Eastern parts of Northern Ireland are covered by a 24-hour weather warning, from 6pm on Sunday until 6pm on Monday, where heavy rain is expected to cause some disruption and the possibility of flooding. Mr Partridge said: "It looks like Northern Ireland is the place where we could see the most rainfall and certainly the most impactful rainfall. They could see 50 to 75mm of rain within 12 to 18 hours." The country records an average of 89mm of rain in July, meaning more than half a month's rainfall could hit Northern Ireland in less than a day. Flooding is also possible, the Met Office said, and parts of England and Scotland may also see 20-40mm of rain in just two hours on Monday. From 3am until 9pm on Monday, the south and east of England are covered by a yellow thunderstorm warning. By 11am the same warning will be in place for the Midlands, northern England and Scotland. More than 10 flood alerts remain active in Scotland and where there is flooding or lightning the Met Office has warned of a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services. There is also a small chance of power cuts and a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life. "Certainly a significant amount rainfall in a couple of hours, which will bring some local issues," Mr Partridge said. 'You will see quite a lot of water on the roads and difficult driving conditions. Hopefully nothing more significant than that, it certainly won't be an issue for any of the rivers because they are quite low." Low pressure and humid, moist air across the country will cause the heavy, thundery showers, but even within the warning areas some places will stay dry. "There is a good chance of seeing some lightning and some hail, with some gusty winds as well," Mr Partridge said. 'One bit of good news is it has been very muggy overnight. Tonight will be less muggy across the southern half of the UK.' The rest of the week is set to be changeable, with showers still likely on Tuesday and heavy, thundery showers possible in the south-east of England on Wednesday. Temperatures this week will hover around average for the time of year, the national weather service said.
