Shirsat's son backs out of hotel purchase after failing to deposit money
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Siddhant Shirsat, son of social justice minister Sanjay Shirsat, has backed out of a hotel purchase deal after a political controversy erupted over the alleged undervalued purchase, by not depositing the required 25% bid amount.
Siddhant Material Procurement and Supplies, linked to Sanjay Shirsat's son, was the highest bidder for two prime properties of defunct Dhanada Corporation in a court-monitored auction. However, the company backed out, stalling the sale process, which aimed to recover dues for investors alleging financial fraud. A fresh hearing is set for July 5.
The auction triggered a political backlash, with Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut alleging that a property with a ready reckoner value of over Rs 100 crore, and a much higher market value, was being offloaded for just Rs 64 crore.
Legislative council's leader of opposition Ambadas Danve also targeted Sanjay Shirsat for carrying out such suspicious deals, by taking undue advantage of being in power. Following mounting criticism, minister Shirsat announced on June 2 that his son would withdraw from the deal to avoid further political controversy.
Despite winning the auction by quoting Rs 15 lakh above the base price for each property, Siddhant Material Procurement and Supplies failed to deposit the required 25% of the amount by the June 20 deadline.

As per rules, the failure to deposit the amount within the stipulated time nullified the bid.
Sub-divisional officer Vyankat Rathod confirmed that the matter was reported to the special court, and further steps would be taken as per its directives. "The next phase of the auction process will depend on the court's decision," Rathod said.
With the top bidder out, the second-highest bidder, Nirmal Holiday Home, has expressed its willingness to match the required amount. The third bidder, Kalyan Toll Infrastructure Ltd, has also shown readiness to increase its bid by Rs 5 lakh.
The auction process underwent seven rounds and involved three bidders. The district administration carried out the sale on court orders, after multiple complaints of investor fraud were filed against Dhanada Corporation.

Naidu unveils vision to turn AP into global tourism hub
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday unveiled an ambitious vision to position Andhra Pradesh as a global destination of tourism, emphasising its role as an engine for economic growth, employment generation, and cultural promotion. Addressing industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders at a tourism conclave here, the Chief Minister said his goal is to make Andhra Pradesh a wealthy, healthy, and happy state. "Andhra Pradesh will be the future destination for wellness and happiness. My goal is a wealthy, healthy, happy Andhra Pradesh - that is the goal I have set," he said. He extended a special invitation to Baba Ramdev, who attended the conclave as the special guest, to serve as a spiritual guide and advisor, urging him to actively promote wellness tourism in the state. Observing that one in every ten jobs created globally comes from the tourism sector, Naidu said it generates eight jobs for every Rs 1 lakh invested, more than sectors like IT, manufacturing, and agriculture. Naidu outlined plans to grow the sector's employment share from 12 per cent to 15 per cent and increase its contribution to the state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) from Rs 74,000 crore to Rs 2.4 lakh crore by 2029. From the 19,500 hotel rooms currently available in the state, Naidu said the target is to scale up to 50,000 rooms in the next four years. Naidu also spoke about the inclusive Homestay Policy, which aims at establishing over 10,000 homestays across tribal, rural, coastal, and heritage regions. The government is actively developing seven tourism anchor hubs: Visakhapatnam, Araku, Rajahmundry, Amaravati, Srisailam, Gandikota, and Tirupati. Additionally, over 25 thematic circuits are planned, including 10 temple circuits, five coastal routes, four river routes, two cruises, two Buddhist circuits, and three eco-tourism trails, he added. Dispelling the notion that tourism investment is exclusive to the wealthy, the Chief Minister presented the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Policy 2024–29 as a 'game changer'. Tourism has now been granted industry status across all segments, he pointed out. Ajay Jain, Special Chief Secretary, Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture Department, also spoke. Amrapali Kata, Managing Director, AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), unveiled a tourism growth dashboard for real-time performance monitoring. On the occasion, the Chief Minister launched Andhra Pradesh's Tourism Digital Calendar, along with a new brochure, strategy paper, and the annual tourism event schedule. APTDC also signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 10,329 crore in the Chief Minister's presence. Naidu also officially flagged off the state's Caravan Tourism initiative. The Justice Department on Friday fired at least three prosecutors involved in U.S. Capitol riot criminal cases, the latest moves by the Trump administration targeting attorneys connected to the massive prosecution of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack, according to two people familiar with the matter. Those dismissed include two attorneys who worked as supervisors overseeing the Jan. 6 prosecutions in the U.S. attorney's office in Washington as well as a line attorney who prosecuted cases stemming from the Capitol attack, the people said. They spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters. A letter that was received by one of the prosecutors was signed by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
