Prince George's hidden detail in 12th birthday snap hints at secret family tradition
The Prince and Princess of Wales have continued their tradition by releasing a brand new photo - as well as a video - to mark Prince George's 12th birthday today.
The royal couple nearly always mark their children's birthdays with the release of a new snap, with the one of George shared today showing him one year away from being a teenager, smiling and relaxed as he leans on the gate in the Norfolk countryside. The snap was taken by photographer Josh Shinner and shows George wearing a checked shirt and green gilet, with a blue and white friendship-style bracelet on his left wrist.
It's not the first time he has been seen wearing the woven accessory, as it also featured on his wrist in his 11th birthday portrait last year, as well as when he attended the Euro 2024 final with dad Prince William in Berlin last summer.
Kensington Palace has so far declined to reveal who gave the prince the bracelet - but he is far from the only royal to have been spotted wearing one, hinting they could be a royal family tradition.
Princess Charlotte was seen wearing a similar bracelet while on a trip to Wimbledon last summer, while Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, is often seen wearing a woven bracelet. Even King Charles was seen sporting one of the woven bracelets during his tour of the Channel Islands and at the State Opening of Parliament in 2024.
Friendship bracelets like these have become popular once again, partly due to pop star Taylor Swift and her Eras tour, with fans exchanging them at her concerts.
And it seems the royals all first began wearing them following Taylor Swift's concerts in London, which George and Charlotte attended with dad, William, last summer.
While out and about on engagements in Cape Town last year, eagle-eyed royal fans noticed William also wearing a beaded bracelet with the name 'Papa' - what his children call him - on it.
In an interview, William later explained: "Well, this is a this is a, I think, a relic, if you like, from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for. She gave it to me when I came away. So I promised that I would wear it and try not to lose it while I was out here."
Meanwhile, as well as a new photo, George's 12th birthday has also been marked with the release of behind-the-scenes footage showing the youngster having fun with his siblings, Charlotte and Louis.
George is shown laughing as he and Charlotte both lift a giggling Louis up in their arms during an outdoor photoshoot, with George holding his younger brother around his chest and Charlotte holding his legs.
The upbeat video montage, filmed by Kensington Palace's in-house social media team, shows the trio smiling as they stride along holding hands in the sunshine, with Louis in the middle of his brother and sister.
The royal siblings also pose for a family portrait with Charlotte and Louis sitting on a rustic wooden gate as George leans next to them.

George the 'prodigy' expert guide was super friendly, knowledgeable, and gave me plenty of fun London recommendations. Can't recommend this experience highly enough!" Another added: "I had the chance to go to The Shard in London on the 69th floor and the 72nd floor with the open air deck by sunny weather. The view was magnificent. I could see the landscape until 40 miles. The guide Zia gave a free explanation with passion on the history of the building and the facts about the skyscraper." A third exclaimed: " The views are fantastic, but what made it really special were the stories of the buildings. Ian was a fantastic wealth of knowledge, as was Indra. Ask for them to tell you some interesting stories." While most reviews were positive, some visitors were not as impressed. One left a three-star review that said: "The view is amazing but there is no enough space to sit. Almost everyone is standing and after some time, it is getting exhausting." With more than 40% off from Wowcher, tickets for The View from The Shard could be perfect for a fun day out with the kids. Another visitor summed it up saying: " The view was incredible and the cocktail were amazing. We talked with Chris the guide at the top who was talking to about a dozen people all at once and answering questions and he was brilliant. Talked to the adults but also in a way that the kids understood everything and made it funny. To snap up the cut-price tickets from Wowcher, shoppers must: The process is easy and straightforward, but this deal only runs until September, 30 and bookings must be made by October, 31.

Strictly's Anton Du Beke shares heartbreak over wife's 'cruel and inexplicable' diagnosis
Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has been married to his wife Hannah Summers since 2017 and the couple share twins George and Henrietta, who were born via IVF Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has candidly opened up about his wife's harrowing struggle with endometriosis and its impact on their path to becoming parents. The beloved BBC star tied the knot with marketing executive Hannah Summers in 2017, after first crossing paths at Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey in 2012. The couple were overjoyed to welcome twins George and Henrietta shortly after their nuptials, thanks to successful IVF treatment. However, during an intimate chat on Giovanna Fletcher' s Happy mum Happy Baby podcast, Anton shared that Hannah had serious concerns about their ability to start a family due to her debilitating condition of endometriosis. The NHS states endometriosis is "where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other parts of the body. It can have a big impact on your life, but there are treatments that can help". The esteemed dancer confessed his bewilderment at life's cruelty, as he watched Hannah lovingly interact with her nephews, questioning the fairness of their IVF journey. He expressed: "I knew I wanted to be with her, I saw her with her nephews. She's so kind and so caring, I just couldn't understand the universe." Anton lamented the seeming injustice from above, saying: "And whoever is upstairs, if anyone's upstairs, looking down and going 'you are the most perfect person to have children, but I'm not going to let you have any children because I'm going to give you this'. "And I'm going to say 'you're going to have this endometriosis, and you're going to suffer with this all of your life, chronically, and I'm not going to let you have any children. "I thought that was peculiar, cruel, and inexplicable and unforgivable. And if ever I go up to somewhere and meet this person I would say 'I think you're not OK with decisions like this, this doesn't make any sense to me." Anton has openly discussed the challenges he and his wife Hannah faced throughout their IVF journey, which ultimately strengthened their bond. The pair were fortunate as the procedure succeeded on their initial try, leading to the arrival of their twins, George and Henrietta, in 2017, with their wedding following later that year. During an emotional conversation with Giovanna, Anton revealed his former ignorance about endometriosis and stressed the need for greater government investment in women's healthcare. Looking back on their experience, he revealed: "Then we went through the process of IVF, well crying out loud. You girls are extraordinary. As much as I want to get involved, all I can do is hold your hand. It makes me emotional every time I talk about it. The injections, the stress, the anxiety. I have anxiety and stress but it's not my body. "She has these injections and the bruises in the bum, in the thigh, in the stomach. And you're trying to help but what can you do? Whatever you want, tell me and I'll do it but that's all you have and it's horrendous as a man to watch it. "You feel so inadequate and you want to do so much more but I can't do anything. And that's why you girls are so extraordinary, you're extraordinary that you do all this stuff."
