You can find 400 whiskeys from around the world at this new bar in Williamsburg

Do you prefer your whiskey on the rocks? Or is a shaken Whiskey Sour more of your speed? Well, Williamsburg's latest bar is here to please, however you like to ' handle your brown."
As of July 12, Foolproof opened its doors on 476 Driggs Avenue. Andy Lock, previously of The Lobster Club and the now-closed Gotham Bar & Grill, is the maestro behind the bar and its bold selection of spirits, with whiskeys tipping over 400 bottles deep. As intimidating as the number may be, Lock's whiskey haven is here to welcome all who wish to sip and swill.
'Foolproof is the kind of bar I've wanted to open for years,' said Lock in a press release. 'We take the whiskey seriously—but never ourselves. This is a place to drink well with an extensive list of options, eat well, and actually have fun doing it."
Whiskey lovers will surely be drawn to the glow of the handsome wooden bar, with its hundreds of glittering bottles that climb up to the ceiling. And yet, Foolproof's handmade wooden tables and chairs, plus a few plush booths, are sure to be the spot for casual conversation while perusing through the book of spirits.
American whiskies dominate with six pages dedicated to the fermented grain. However, the list hawks plenty of Irish and Japanese varieties, as well as selections from lesser-known areas, including Austria, India and South Korea, ready to sample by the glass, flight or boilermaker. If you'd rather have a cocktail, they've got "Foolproof Classics,'"including barrel-aged Manhattans and Old Fashioneds, plus Highballs and Boulevardiers. There's a reserve cocktail list that includes an Old Fashioned stirred with black truffle-infused Prunier VSOP Grande Champagne cognac and an Extra Añejo Espresso Martini. Yet Foolproof includes all drinkers, as the bar comes full stocked with beer, wine and a handful of no-proof tipples.
Lock's other philosophy also rings true here: good whiskey deserves good food. Better bar bites include a Relish Tray with an assortment of house-made pickles and tapenade and sashimi-grade tartare, including one that uses a whiskey-cured salmon. There are heartier sandwiches that use house-cured portobello and pastrami plus a veggie-friendly "burrata". And when you are ready for a nightcap, you can actually turn to the dessert menu for salted caramel whiskey ice cream.

Film adaptation of cult indie game ‘The Exit 8' due for release in late August

Gamers and horror movie buffs alike are gearing up for the release of one of this summer's most interesting-looking Japanese flicks: Exit 8, the film adaptation of the cult indie game The Exit 8. The original game, released in May 2023, quickly developed a huge following. Transcending language barriers with its use of psychological tension and the liminal space aesthetic, it's since received millions of downloads globally as well as numerous awards, and spawned a genre of 'Exit 8-likes'. For the uninitiated, here's a quick intro. In The Exit 8, players must navigate their way through a seemingly endless Tokyo subway corridor, spotting 'anomalies' along the way. As the rules of the game state, 'Do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you see an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don't, continue forward. Only leave through Exit 8.' Armed with a simple premise and minimalist gameplay, the game has enthralled a legion of fans for its ability to incite paranoia, claustrophobia and introspection. Its creator, the enigmatic Kotake Create, has since gone on to become a freelance developer and produce a popular sequel entitled Platform 8. Typically straying from public attention, Kotake Create has remained fairly stoic about his success, but has admitted that he's happy his idea has pioneered a genre. The film adaptation has already garnered rave reviews from critics. Screened to a sold-out crowd of 2,300 during the Cannes Festival's coveted Midnight Screening programme in May, it received a – perhaps not coincidental – eight-minute standing ovation. Genki Kawamura oversaw the writing, production and direction of the film, which was shot primarily on set in Tokyo. Perhaps best known for his novel If Cats Disappeared from the World, Kawamura has also produced a number of films, including Monster (2023) and animated features like Your Name (2016), Weathering With You (2019) and Suzume (2022). Exit 8 's protagonist, Lost Man, is played by Kazunari Ninomiya, at 42 still going strong as a member of the boy band Arashi while continuing an acting career that includes films such as Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), Gantz (2010) and Assassination Classroom (2015). Nana Komatsu (The World of Kanako (2014), Destruction Babies (2016), Silence (2016) and Drowning Love (2016)) will costar, while the breakout fan favourite from the videogame, Walking Man, will be played by Yamato Kochi, known mainly for minor roles in Japanese television series such as Kyo Kara Hittoman, Vivant and Antiohero. Despite its relatively minimalist source material, the film has in early reviews been praised for its creativity and complexity, with some critics already calling it 'possibly the best video game adaptation ever made' (Josh Korngut, Dread Central). The film's poster also won the Prix Luciole Award for best poster design at Cannes. Exit 8 is due for release in Japan on August 29, with an international release set to follow in September. Toho Cinemas will be hosting a special pre-release IMAX screening in Hibiya on August 8, complete with a live post-screening greeting from Kazunari Ninomiya. In addition, advance screenings featuring a live broadcast of Ninomiya's greeting will take place simultaneously in eight other cinemas across the country. You can check out the latest teaser below and follow the film's official website and Instagram for updates. More from Time Out Tokyo

Love Island fans insist returning Islander ‘did their research' as they expose ‘game plan'

Viewers threatened to call Ofcom when this Islander returned EYES ON THE PRIZE Love Island fans insist returning Islander 'did their research' as they expose 'game plan' LOVE Island fans insist a returning Islander 'did their research' as they expose their 'game plan.' Irish star Megan made her villa return this week in shock scenes, alongside fellow dumped Islander Blu. 3 Love Island fans insist a returning Islander 'did their research' as they expose their 'game plan' 3 Fans have claimed Megan has an obvious game plan Megan was voted least favourite girl after dumping Tommy for Conor, before being axed. But her return has seen her head straight for Conor to pick up where they left off. However, Love Island viewers aren't convinced, with some saying that the brunette beauty has returned to the dating show with a game plan. Taking to Reddit, one person speculated: 'Irish Megan really did her homework. Notice how when Yasmin first came in irish Megan threw the blame on her calling her 'boring and sloppy' and never held Harry or Dejon accountable. 'But now she's flipping the script, telling the girls 'Oh the boys were the problem' and 'It's not Shakira it's Harry.' They continued: 'Since her return, Helena who's always laughing and scoffed 'I'm not threatened by Shakira.' is now crying….its no coincidence that both Helena and Megan are shifting the blame onto Harry instead of Shakira after irish meg came in because they would've jumped guns blazing on Shakira if they hadn't known what the public say about them.' And the poster finished by saying: 'They're even openly acknowledging the 'divide' for the first time and Megan who was confidently arguing with 4+ girls during movie night is now shedding crocodile tears for people to sympathise with her…irish meg TRUST and believe that you will be on that spirit flight back to england i've had enough of them rigging this season and painting shakira and toni as the villains.' The comment was liked by thousands of people in agreement, but not everyone agreed with the theory. Some said it was a good thing that Megan was calling out the boys for their actions, while others fumed that the word 'game player' was being thrown about too easily. Love Island fans praise Megan as she calls out Harry for his actions in brutal speech On her villa return, Megan revealed the real reason she decided to come back. She said: "I'm excited to go back in, I think I left quite abruptly and I'm going back in for some clarity. "It was an easy decision to make. "When you can't speak to people for a couple of weeks and have to watch them on telly every night, you want some answers." Some Love Island fans ended up complaining to Ofcom about Megan and Blu's return to the villa. "Producers are ****s, they bring Megan back now that Shakira + Conor are happy + now I've seen that they've put the clip of Shakira + Toni talking about meg + demon in the grafties? "I hate them and ofcom will be hearing from me." Someone else added: "And the voting was rigged - I'm complaining to ofcom too, sick of the lies." A third penned: "@itv bringing back meg over alima is disgraceful. And I will be complaining to ofcom. "Megan recieved the lowest amount of votes. Alimas was never voted out by the public but by somone stealing her man. "S10 molly was kicked out the same way and eventually brought back." A fourth then said: "Everyone needs to complain to ofcom after that episode!!!!!!!" While a fifth added: "I'm actually gonna file an ofcom complaint cause how can they disregard our votes like that? "Megan literally had the lowest votes for favourite girl FOR A REASON."
