Markham Animal Services investigating after vehicle hits 7 Canada geese, killing 5
Five Canadian geese are dead and two others are seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Markham Thursday afternoon.
Markham Animal Services (MAS) said concerned commuters called about the incident that occurred on Birchmount Road between Enterprise Boulevard and 14th Avenue at around 2 p.m.

Animal Services officers arrived and found seven Canada geese, five of which were dead.
In an email to CP24, MAS added that the two other geese still alive were transported to the Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge in Pefferlaw, Ont. It is Markham's contracted charitable wildlife rehabilitator.
One goose is in critical condition, while the other sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries that include a broken leg and wing, MAS said.
Animal services added that the five dead geese were later removed from the road.
MAS said citizens expressed concern that the geese may have been intentionally struck but it was unable to substantiate the claims at this time.
'The City of Markham is committed to the protection and humane treatment of all wildlife,' MAS said, urging anyone with information to call 905-415-7531.

Police arrest alleged impaired driver who crashed into downtown Toronto restaurant
One person is facing impaired driving charges after a vehicle crashed into the front of a restaurant in Toronto. A driver has been arrested for impaired driving after a car crashed into a downtown Toronto restaurant early Saturday morning. Police continue to search for 2 suspects who fled Mississauga collision that injured woman and 4 kids
Peel police continue to search for two suspects who fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Mississauga earlier this week that left a woman and four children seriously injured. In a news release on Saturday, police made an appeal for information about the July 3 collision between a black Range Rover and a red Honda Civic at the intersection of Ninth Line and Erin Centre Boulevard. Police said the two occupants of the Range Rover ran away without checking on the woman and the children who were in the Honda Civic. Investigators believe the suspects were followed by a newer model red Ford Mustang prior to the collision and that they were travelling at high speed. Police previously said that the suspects were also involved earlier in an 'interaction' with one or possibly more vehicles at the Life Time gym located on Winston Churchill Boulevard, south of Highway 403. According to police, the Range Rover and Ford Mustang travelled along Unity Drive, Ridgeway Drive, Eglinton Avenue, and Ninth Line. Police are asking motorists or bystanders who were in the vicinity of those areas between 3:50 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. on July 3 to review any available dashcam or cellphone footage that may have captured the Range Rover with an Ontario licence plate DERX431 or the Mustang.
