Douglas Murray slams ‘hideous windmills' wrecking the UK countryside

Sky News AU16-07-2025
Author Douglas Murray has ripped into windmills, which have 'completely polluted' the British countryside.
King Charles' new role has been redefined to include leading on environmental sustainability.
'You drive past them now or go past them on a train, and great bits of countryside like the southwest of Scotland are just covered in these hideous, hideous windmills,' Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
'Why wreck the environment in order to save it?'

Zara and Mike Tindall huge 'support' to Prince William

Zara and Mike Tindall will be a huge 'support' for Prince William when he becomes King. The 43-year-old Prince of Wales is next in line to the British throne after his father King Charles and royal insiders believe he could turn to his cousin Zara, 44, and her husband Mike, 46, to help him and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, with his duties. Royal commentator Jennie Bond told OK! Magazine: 'As the years go by, I think they'll be a highly valued support for William when the time comes for him to be King. They are both very close to William and if he calls on them, they will definitely agree.' It has been suggested that accomplished equestrian Zara could take on a role running royal horse racing, something William doesn't have a huge interest in. Jennie said: 'There will be so many demands on William's time when he is King that I think it's a brilliant idea – if the reports are to be believed – that he might hand over racing matters to Zara. Like her mother, Princess Anne, she lives and breathes horses – she's also extremely glamorous and well-liked, it would be a perfect fit.' And, William is said to rely on his close friendship with Mike, particularly as his relationship with his brother Prince Harry has been fraught since Harry and his wife Duchess Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020. Jennie said: 'Mike is increasingly the brother William no longer has – they are really first friends and big huggers. 'Zara and Mike are equally professional, dressing up for the occasion and playing their part, but they bring a lightness of touch and a sense of fun to almost everything they do.'

Tom Holland admits James Bond would be 'pinnacle' of his career

Tom Holland has admitted playing James Bond would be the "pinnacle" of his career. The Spider-Man star is said to be in the frame to portray the suave spy in Denis Villeneuve's upcoming movie in the franchise and while the 29-year-old actor refused to be drawn on the speculation, he suggested landing the role would be a dream come true. Speaking to Gordon Ramsay on YouTube, he said of the rumours: 'Listen, there's speculation at the moment. We'll keep it to a minimum for now. We'll get there one day." The Hell's Kitchen star then further pressed Tom on the issue. He said: 'Can you imagine what's going to happen to your life if you do? First of all, you'd love that opportunity, right?' Tom replied: 'I mean every young British actor, it's the pinnacle of working in our industry. I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive. I could not have dreamed to have the career that I have.' The Devil All the Time actor's comments come shortly after Rocketman star Taron Egerton dismissed the idea he could replace Daniel Craig as 007 because he is "too messy". Asked about the possibility of playing Bond, he told Collider: "I don't think I'm a good choice for it. I think I'm too messy for that. "I think I'm not— I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig's tenure. But I think I wouldn't be good at it, and I think there's so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably." Taron observed that leading the Bond franchise is "quite an undertaking". And he suggested that the scale of the project might not suit him, either. The 35-year-old actor explained: "That's not to say that I don't have aspirations and plans and also that I wouldn't be interested in doing something that's more commercial, because of course I would. I think I'm a period in my life where, as you say, I've been probably following the things that speak to me on a creative level a little bit more, but, you know, I'm sure I won't feel that way forever. "But James Bond is quite an undertaking and I think, one, as far as I'm aware, nobody's asking me to do it." Taron suggested that he might find more satisfaction in pursuing other film projects. He said: "It's possibly not quite the thing that would make me happiest. I do think it's a big old undertaking, it kind of consumes your life, a role like that." Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney is reportedly being lined up to play the next Bond girl. The 27-year-old actress is wanted by new 007 director Denis Villeneuve for a role in the upcoming film and the move is said to have the backing of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, with the company acquiring creative control of the spy franchise from long-serving producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. "Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise. "They've hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise. "Plus Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of the Bond girls."

‘Misjudged': Truth about Meghan Markle's downfall

Even on The Real Housewives Of London, Meghan Markle is creating drama. Sadly, that's not because the Duchess of Sussex is making a glittering return to the UK to join the latest Housewives franchise. She's still holed up in California, making jam and tending to her bees. But that doesn't stop Meghan's presence being felt on the new series. In the trailer promoting the show's premiere, cast member Panthea Parker is warned by her husband not to ask King Charles any questions about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they attend a Buckingham Palace garden party. It's a pity because that conversation would have made far juicier fodder for an episode of the Housewives than any previous champagne-fuelled shenanigans. (And that's saying something because there have been some doozies over the years.) Such is the power of Meghan Markle. Love her or hate her, our modern-day Mrs Simpson is always a compelling character to watch. And Meghan certainly gives us a lot of entertainment. In addition to the many documentaries and TV panel discussions devoted to analysing Meghan's rise and fall in the House of Windsor, the royal couple have been generating their own content. Since Megxit, there has been the infamous tell-all with Oprah Winfrey, Harry's biography Spare, podcast appearances, and the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, where the pair detailed their side of the family feud. There's also been the lifestyle series With Love, Meghan where the Suits star shared simple recipes as well as tips for hosting children's parties from inside her tastefully elegant Montecito home. commentator and royal expert Daniela Elser understands the appetite for all things Meghan Markle. 'On camera, she's a natural,' she explains. 'I think that's a talent that you have or you don't, and she has it in spades. She is incredibly beautiful, she's hugely stylish, and she clearly feels very comfortable there. In With Love, Meghan, she is obviously truly passionate about cooking, about food and gardening, and that comes across. I think the parts of that show that worked well were when she was in the kitchen with chefs like Roy Choi or Alice Waters, more so than when she was doing things like making a balloon arch.' While people have been quick to criticise all these appearances as proof Meghan is out of touch and shameless in her quest for attention, we keep lapping it up. And so, does she deserve to be the target of such vitriol? No. Should she execute a bit more discretion before posting videos of herself bumping and grinding in the delivery suite? Absolutely. Or maybe Meghan is just a girl standing in front of the world asking them to love her. So how does she win us back? Not with tips for welcoming house guests with lavender-scented towels and gift baskets, it seems. Evan Nierman, Founder and CEO of global PR firm Red Banyan, told Us Weekly magazine that it would be very hard for Meghan to turn the tide of public opinion back around now. 'Meghan took what could have been a real-life fairy tale and turned it into an ugly 'tell-all', almost like ruining a Disney movie,' he said. 'She misjudged how much goodwill she could burn before people lost interest, and now she's facing the reality that rebuilding a reputation is far harder than maintaining one.' Time will tell. And I, for one, will be watching with interest. Meanwhile, here's some Meghan sparkle available on Tubi. Harry & Meghan: A Modern Royal Romance: Created to celebrate their impending wedding, this 2018 documentary charts the love story of Prince Harry and the Suits star. Hollywood Princesses: Grace and Meghan: This 2023 documentary analyses the journeys of two actresses – Grace Kelly and Meghan Markle – who traded Hollywood for a Palace. Meghan Markle: Unforgiven: Although she was initially seen as a 'breath of fresh air' for the royal family, this 2023 documentary examines how the global love affair with Meghan has turned sour.
