Airports, dry ports: FBR intensifies enforcement steps
The FBR has issued a SRO.1156 (I)/ 2025 here on Wednesday to amend the SRO.1637 (I)/2024.
According to the notification, Board may re-assign functions relating to assessment and examination of import and export goods assigned to any organisation to the CAU of Faceless Customs Assessment and CEU established by the Board. Now, the designated customs officials have also been allowed to conduct information-based checking of customs cleared cargo anywhere including blocking within airport or dry port areas.
The FBR had introduced the Centralised Customs Examination system by establishing a Centralised Examination Unit (CEU) at Karachi where all examinations of imported consignments would be completed on the same day.
According to the new procedure, in order to improve the quality of customs examinations, bring transparency, expedite clearance of goods and enhance trade facilitation, the Centralised Customs Examination is introduced.
The Board has established Faceless Customs Assessment (FCA) to improve the quality of assessment, bring uniformity and transparency in processing of Goods Declarations (GDs), rationalise the workload of Appraising Officers (AOs) and ensure trade facilitation.

Futures spread expands sharply
KARACHI: The futures market at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a sharp expansion in spreads during the week ended July 4, 2025, with the future spreads soaring by 5,825 basis points. The spread settled at positive 9.99 percent by the final trading session of the week, compared to a negative 48.25 percent in the preceding week, reflecting improved investors sentiments. On the activity front, however, the average daily futures volume stood at 180.39 million shares, registering a sharp decline of 48.5 percent from the previous week's 349.98 million shares. In value terms as well, the average daily turnover dropped by 57.8 percent, declining to Rs 7.91 billion from Rs 18.78 billion a week earlier, indicating reduced participation in high-value contracts despite increased spreads. 9th round of BPC in Warsaw: Pakistan, Poland explore new avenues for economic ties
ISLAMABAD: The 9th Round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between Pakistan and the Republic of Poland was held in Warsaw on 4 July. The Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement that the Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Muhammad Ayub, Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe), while the Polish delegation was headed by Secretary of State at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski. The Ambassador of Pakistan to Poland, Muhammad Sami-ur-Rehman and the Polish Ambassador to Pakistan, Maciej Pisarski, were also present during the consultations. The two sides reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. The Additional Foreign Secretary reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to further broadening and deepening its ties with Poland in various fields, including trade, investment, energy, security and defence cooperation, science and technology, agriculture, migration and mobility and higher education. Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration, including through the exchange of high-level visits, parliamentary exchanges and dialogue. Regional and global issues of mutual interest, including developments in South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe were discussed in depth. The two delegations found convergence on key issues and agreed to continue cooperation at multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
