Musician and Spinal Tap star David Kaff dies aged 79

Metroa day ago
David Kaff, best known for his role in the 80s film This Is Spinal Tap, has died.
The 79-year-old actor and musician died last week, with his band announcing the news, but not specifying the cause of death.
Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom, Kaff's band, announced on social media on Friday, July 11: 'Our brother David Kaffinetti passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday.
'We are devastated by this event.
'David always had a kind word and a quick wit that would slay you where you stand.
'Then he'd make you smile doing it! RIP dear brother.'
Kaff was a member of the progressive rock band Rare Bird for six years between 1969 and 1975, releasing five albums during their time together. Their single Sympathy reached the top 30 in 1970 in the UK singles chart. He was later in the band Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom.
Fans were quick to share their sincere condolences with the band on social media.
Billy Garoutte commented on the Facebook post: 'My deepest condolences sent. 😕'
'Rest in peace Viv. Condolences to family and friends. Love and Aloha,' said Tim Gannon, referencing Kaff's most famous acting role.
'Very very sorry for the loss,' said Kevin Beville.
Despite his musical success he was best known by fans for playing Spinal Tap keyboardist, Viv Savage, in the popular 1984 musical comedy This Is Spinal Tap.
The original 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap mocked heavy rock bands, pointing out the ridiculousness of their backstage debaucherous behaviour and outfits. More Trending
The mockumentary centred on the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap – and was filled with quotable moments that decades later still have people reciting.
The movie was a massive success, leading to the main trio actually performing as Spinal Tap at various concerts, including at Glastonbury Festival, Live Earth concerts, and at a tribute to Freddie Mercury.
A Spinal Tap sequel, titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, has been released – with Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney confirmed to cameo.
The new film is set to feature the original cast members, including Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, and director Rob Reiner.

Louis Tomlinson slams hurtful comments about Zara McDermott and his late mum - 'It's too much'

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, who is currently dating Zara McDermott, slammed people making comments about his relationship and his family Former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson revealed why he's been absent from X/Twitter as he slammed those prying into his life. The 33-year-old star has been dating Love Island's Zara McDermott for several months, with the two last spotted enjoying the sunshine at Glastonbury Festival. ‌ According to a deflated Louis, many have been sharing 'conspiracy' theories about his romance with Zara - who previously dated former Made In Chelsea's Sam Thompson for five years. Taking to his X page, he wrote: "The last few months have made it impossible to be on here. " ‌ He went on to say there were offensive comments made about his son Freddie, eight, who he shares with ex Brianna Jungwirth. Some also posted opinions about his late mother Johanna Deakin, who died in 2016. ‌ "All the conspiracy chat about my relationship, my son or even stretching sometimes to opinions on my Mum," Louis said. "It's just too much and too hurtful for me to see! Thank you to everyone who always has my back!" Before the tweet, he last posted on July 8, writing: "So excited to be back on stage tomorrow. Feels like a while! Who's coming?!!" His most recent Instagram post was a slew of snaps from his time at Worthy Farm with pals and Zara. ‌ Loyal fans rushed to the comment section to share their support for him. One concerned user said: "There are way too many that support you no matter what; please believe that there are amazing fans always here for you!" "Your true fans will always have your back. The ones that respect you for you, your talent, and let you live a life. ‌ "Those people are the ones you should be thankful for," another fan commented. One fan added: "So so proud of you, tell them haters Louis!!!" Louis previously discussed his annoyance over theories made about him. A famous one claimed Louis and 1D star Harry Styles enjoyed a romantic relationship. He tweeted in 2012: "Larry is the biggest load of bulls*** I've ever heard. I'm happy, why can't you accept that.' ‌ In 2024, he brought up the theory again and said: "What's tough is, I realised this some years ago, there is nothing I can say. There is nothing I can do to dispel the believers of that conspiracy. "It does irritate me a little bit, you know? But it is just kind of the nature of the job, I suppose.'

Kneecap announce new tour dates for group's ‘biggest run of shows ever'

The move comes after Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was charged in May with a terrorism offence relating to displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, during a gig in November 2024. The group said their actions, including holding the Hezbollah flag, had been taken out of context. Announcing the news on Tuesday, the group – which is made up of O hAnnaidh, Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh – shared a post on Instagram with the caption that read: 'Here we go. 'We're back in November across Scotland, England and Wales to play our biggest run of shows ever. 'All of ye can get a pre-sale link for tomorrow at 10am ahead of the masses by signing up to our mailer or WhatsApp channel. 'The Prime Minster himself cant stop us…he could stop sending bombs to Israel but that's another story…' The group are known for speaking out against the war in Gaza, and recently performed to a sea of Palestinian flags during their set at Glastonbury Festival in June. They claim the controversies surrounding the group are part of a smear campaign against them because of their vocal support for Palestine and criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza, which they say is a genocide. The group recently performed at Glasgow's O2 Academy, in a gig which sold out in 80 seconds. They were due to perform at TRNSMT festival in Glasgow, but their set was axed after concerns raised by police. Their tour will start in Bournemouth on November 14 before moving on to Liverpool, Newcastle and Glasgow. Kneecap will also perform in London at the previously announced show at OVO Arena Wembley on September 18.
