Musician and Spinal Tap star David Kaff dies aged 79
David Kaff, best known for his role in the 80s film This Is Spinal Tap, has died. The 79-year-old actor and musician died last week, with his band announcing the news, but not specifying the cause of death. Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom, Kaff's band, announced on social media on Friday, July 11: 'Our brother David Kaffinetti passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday. 'We are devastated by this event. 'David always had a kind word and a quick wit that would slay you where you stand. 'Then he'd make you smile doing it! RIP dear brother.' Kaff was a member of the progressive rock band Rare Bird for six years between 1969 and 1975, releasing five albums during their time together. Their single Sympathy reached the top 30 in 1970 in the UK singles chart. He was later in the band Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom. Fans were quick to share their sincere condolences with the band on social media. Billy Garoutte commented on the Facebook post: 'My deepest condolences sent. 😕' 'Rest in peace Viv. Condolences to family and friends. Love and Aloha,' said Tim Gannon, referencing Kaff's most famous acting role. 'Very very sorry for the loss,' said Kevin Beville. Despite his musical success he was best known by fans for playing Spinal Tap keyboardist, Viv Savage, in the popular 1984 musical comedy This Is Spinal Tap. The original 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap mocked heavy rock bands, pointing out the ridiculousness of their backstage debaucherous behaviour and outfits. More Trending The mockumentary centred on the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap – and was filled with quotable moments that decades later still have people reciting. The movie was a massive success, leading to the main trio actually performing as Spinal Tap at various concerts, including at Glastonbury Festival, Live Earth concerts, and at a tribute to Freddie Mercury. A Spinal Tap sequel, titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, has been released – with Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney confirmed to cameo. The new film is set to feature the original cast members, including Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, and director Rob Reiner. Got a story? Linkin Park Reaches A Career Landmark For The First Time
Linkin Park's 'In the End' celebrates 100 weeks on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart — the ... More band's first triple-digit-charter on the worldwide tally. TOKYO - JULY 07: Chester Bennington of Linkin Park performs on stage at the Tokyo leg of the Live Earth series of concerts, at Makuhari Messe, Chiba on July 7, 2007 in Tokyo, Japan. Launched by former US Vice President Al Gore to combat Global Warming, the concert is one of a series taking place over a 24-hour period on July 7 across seven continents. (Photo by) 'In the End' is the song that started it all for Linkin Park, so it makes sense that the tune remains the most popular in the band's discography. Even after decades of smashes and successful albums, no other cut has been able to top 'In the End' in the Grammy-winning act's catalog, as people all around the world continue to buy and stream the track. The single, which somehow appealed to everyone from the most intense hard rock superfan to top 40 pop lovers, helps Linkin Park reach a new milestone on one of Billboard's worldwide tallies this week. 'In the End' Hits a Milestone 100 Weeks 'In the End' has now lived on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. for 100 weeks. That list ranks the most consumed tracks all around the world — excluding streams and sales coming from American listeners — as it aims to paint a picture of what the rest of the planet is listening to. This moment is a first for Linkin Park, as 'In the End' is the band's only tune to rack up triple-digit stays on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Following behind the introductory single is 'Numb,' which is now up to 81 weeks on the tally, a figure it adds to once again this time around. 'The Emptiness Machine' follows in third, with only 43 appearances on the same roster. 'In the End' Never Hit the Top 40 Despite its longevity, 'In the End' has never managed to crack the top 40 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., though it has come close. Last fall, when Linkin Park began to roll out music from its then-forthcoming comeback album From Zero, 'In the End' rocketed to No. 42, which remains its all-time high. The hard rock tune originally arrived in October 2020, when Billboard's global rankings were still brand new. This week, it dips slightly to No. 70, falling just one space. Linkin Park Scores Multiple Worldwide Wins 'In the End' also ranks as Linkin Park's sturdiest hit on the Billboard Global 200. On that ranking, the cut reached 100 weeks less than a month ago. At the moment, it sits just two spaces behind where it lands on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Linkin Park fills a trio of spots on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. at present, as 'In the End,' 'Numb,' and 'The Emptiness Machine' all find space. 'In the End' is also a hit in America, as it rises on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart and holds at No. 1 yet again on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally.

Linkin Park Returns To No. 1 In America With Its First Smash
Linkin Park's 'In the End' returns to No. 1 on Billboard's Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, marking ... More its eighth nonconsecutive week at the top. (Photo by) Just a few weeks ago, Linkin Park re-released its album From Zero, turning it into a deluxe edition with several new tunes. The following week, that set bolted up a number of Billboard charts, but it didn't take long for its popularity to dwindle once more. A handful of tracks taken from the expanded set are still present on tallies in the United States, even as the full-length all but disappears. Even with new music now available, some of the hard rock group's earliest smashes are proving to be unbeatable — and the one that started it all for the outfit reigns supreme once more. "In the End" bolts from No. 5 to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart in America this week, officially becoming the most-streamed hard rock track in the nation once again. With another stint at No. 1 to its credit, "In the End" has now led the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart for eight nonconsecutive weeks. It first reached the peak position in October of last year, having originally arrived in June 2020. Both "In the End" and "Numb" landed on the ranking at the same time, and the two have now spent just over five years on this chart. "In the End" has spent more time at No. 1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally than the group's other two champions combined. "The Emptiness Machine" – the lead single taken from 2024's From Zero – managed five frames leading the charge, while "Lost" earned the band its first leader in February 2023, holding for just one frame. "In the End" is becoming hugely successful again across several of Billboard's genre-specific rosters. In addition to jumping to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, the track also reenters the Alternative Streaming Songs list at No. 24, after what must be a noticeable uptick in plays on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, iHeartRadio, and many others. The track also manages to climb on both of Billboard's worldwide lists, lifting just a few spots on the two rosters. Five tunes by Linkin Park appear on at least one Billboard chart apiece this week. "Up From the Bottom," one of the major focuses from the From Zero deluxe edition, finds a home on half a dozen tallies. While it continues to rule a trio of airplay lists, it is largely falling when it comes to other forms of consumption.

Russell Brand granted bail after court appearance
Russell Brand has arrived at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London to face charges of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault. The broadcaster, comedian and actor faces one allegation of rape, one allegation of indecent assault, one of oral rape and two further counts of sexual assault, relating to four separate women. Photographers surrounded his car as he arrived, and he did not speak the reporters gathered outside the court building. Surrounded by cameras and microphones, it took him more than two minutes to walk the short distance to the court door, passing alongside blocks of photographers, who were flanked by police officers. Brand confirmed his name and address in court, and that he is aged 49. He is accused of sexually assaulting a woman by touching her breasts and indecently assaulting another by grabbing her arm and dragging her towards a male toilet. Brand, who was asked to stand in court for the 12-minute hearing, was charged by post last month. He was granted bail for the case, which will be heard at the Old Bailey. His next court appearance will be 30 May, and he confirmed during the hearing that he understood his bail conditions. Brand, who was born in Essex, rose to fame as a stand-up comedian, performing at the Hackney Empire in 2000 and later the Edinburgh Fringe. He later moved into broadcasting, hosting national television and radio programmes. The turning point in his career came in the mid-2000s, when he hosted Big Brother's Big Mouth, a companion show to the hugely popular reality series Big Brother. It provided the springboard he was looking for and led to him becoming one of the most sought-after presenters in the UK. Brand went on to host the NME, MTV and Brit awards ceremonies, had his own debate series by E4, and fronted the UK leg of charity concert Live Earth. His career included hosting radio shows on the BBC, in particular for 6 Music and Radio 2, between 2006 and 2008. Brand released a video in April in which he said he'd never engaged in non-consensual activity and was grateful for the opportunity to defend the charges in court.

The turning point in his career came in the mid-2000s, when he hosted Big Brother's Big Mouth, a companion show to the hugely popular reality series Big Brother. Brand went on to host the NME, MTV and Brit awards ceremonies, was gifted his own debate series by E4, and fronted the UK leg of charity concert Live Earth. But he was never far away from controversy, particularly at awards ceremonies - which provided the kind of live, anything-can-happen chaos where he was most at home. His career included hosting radio shows on the BBC, in particular for 6 Music and Radio 2, between 2006 and 2008. But inappropriate phone calls he made to the Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs during a show in 2008 prompted a huge scandal - and ultimately led to his dismissal. He rebounded with a Hollywood career, starring in films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek. Recent years have seen him take a new direction - particularly since the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020. Brand grew his following on YouTube as he discussed scepticism surrounding the disease. He has developed a cult following for his views on politics and society, through videos which challenge the mainstream reporting of a range of subjects and often amplify conspiracy theories. He has also established himself as a wellness guru.
