Elon Musk Announces Upcoming Tesla-Saumsung Chip Manufacturing Collaboration
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has said Samsung Electronics will manufacture the US electric vehicle maker's next-generation AI6 chip at its semiconductor plant in the state of Texas.
Musk made the announcement on Sunday (US time) on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "The strategic importance of this is hard to overstate.'
Samsung's giant new Texas fab will be dedicated to making Tesla's next-generation AI6 chip. The strategic importance of this is hard to overstate.
Samsung currently makes AI4.
TSMC will make AI5, which just finished design, initially in Taiwan and then Arizona.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 28, 2025
He added that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which has just completed its design phase, will initially produce the AI5 chip in Taiwan, reports Yonhap news agency.
Musk also said Samsung, which currently manufactures the AI4 chip, has agreed to allow Tesla to collaborate in efforts to maximise manufacturing efficiency.
Samsung agreed to allow Tesla to assist in maximizing manufacturing efficiency.
This is a critical point, as I will walk the line personally to accelerate the pace of progress. And the fab is conveniently located not far from my house 😃
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 28, 2025
Tesla's AI6 chip is designed to be scalable -- small enough for use in humanoid robots and self-driving cars but powerful enough for an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre.
Samsung Electronics said on Monday it has secured a 22.8 trillion-won (US$16.4 billion) order to supply semiconductors to a major undisclosed customer. In a regulatory filing, the South Korean tech giant said it signed a foundry contract set to be completed by December 31, 2033.
The contract accounts for 7.6 percent of the company's total revenue of 300.9 trillion won last year and marks the largest chip order ever won by Samsung Electronics.
The deal is expected to give a much-needed boost to its foundry division, which has long struggled to catch up with global industry leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
In its earnings guideline released earlier this month, Samsung Electronics estimated an operating profit of 4.59 trillion won and sales of 74 trillion won for the second quarter.
In particular, operating profit failed to meet market expectations, mainly due to the sluggish performance of the foundry and the System Large Scale Integration (LSI) divisions, according to the report.

Musk's Starlink can provide only 20 lakh connections across India, won't affect telecom services: Govt
Billionaire Elon Musk's Starlink, which provides satellite communication services, will be able to give only 20 lakh connections across India, union minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Monday. MoS Pemmasani said that the cost for the satcom services will be too high.(REUTERS) This thus reduces the threat to other telecom players, including state-run BSNL. 'Starlink can have only 20 lakh customers in India and offer up to 200 Mbps speed. That won't affect telecom services,' the Minister of State (MoS) for Telecom said. The satellite communication services provided by Starlink, which promise high-speed internet via low Earth orbit satellites, will likely target rural and remote areas. MoS Pemmasani said that the cost for the satcom services will be too high, adding that customers might have to pay up to ₹3000 per month. He was speaking on the sidelines of a review meeting of BSNL, whose 49 network rollout has been completed. The MoS said that the state-run provider is focusing on market first, adding that there were no tariff hikes planned. Starlink to introduce Satcom services after IN-SPACe nod The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) earlier this month gave regulatory clearance to Starlink to launch satellite-based internet services in India. The government had granted the company a licence in early June to provide Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) services, Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) services, and Internet Service Provider (ISP) Category-A services. Starlink is the third company, after OneWeb and Jio, to receive approval from the Department of Telecommunications for satcom services. Both Airtel and Jio recently partnered with Starlink to launch its high-speed satellite internet services in India. The Elon Musk-owned company will utilise the dealer networks of both these operators to distribute its services in the market. While Starlink had been waiting since 2022 for licences to commence commercial operations in India, delays due to reasons including national security concerns were preventing its launch.

Analysts warn Tesla must focus on sales: ‘We love robotaxis, but we love growth too. We need…'
Elon Musk 's Tesla is facing skepticism over its robotaxi plans amidst continued profit decline and diminishing sales, reports CNBC. 'Look, we love robotaxis. And robots,' analysts at Canaccord Genuity told the publication after the electric vehicle company announced its second quarterly results. 'But we love growth too, in the here and now. We need the P&L dynamics to turn,' the analysts added. The report further quoted analysts at Jefferies who described the Q2 earnings as 'a bit dull'. Goldman Sachs, on the other hand, called Tesla's robotaxi effort 'still small' with limited technical data points. Robotaxi hype meets regulatory reality Tesla claims its robotaxi program has completed 7,000 miles in Austin using 10–20 Model Y cars, each supervised by a human in the front passenger seat and monitored remotely. However, its plans to launch in California may hit a wall, says CNBC report. According to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Tesla hasn't applied for the necessary permits to operate a driverless ride-hailing service. Under current approvals, Tesla is only allowed to operate a human-driven charter service in the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo By contrast, Alphabet's Waymo is far ahead. On its earnings call, Alphabet said its Waymo vehicles have driven over 100 million autonomous miles and are active in more than 10 U.S. cities. Waymo is now significant enough that Alphabet added it to its quarterly revenue report under 'Other Bets,' with $373 million in revenue last quarter. Elon Musk warns of few rough quarters during Tesla Q2 earnings report Speaking during the Q2 earnings report, Elon Musk warned that Tesla could face a few 'rough' quarters following the expiration of the US tax credit for electric vehicles . The Tesla CEO said 'We're in this weird transition period where we'll lose a lot of incentives in the US. We probably could have a few rough quarters. I'm not saying we will, but we could'. 'But once you get to autonomy at scale in the second half of next year, certainly by the end of next year, I would be surprised if Tesla's economics are not very compelling,' he added. Tesla reported a drop in profit for the third quarter in a row, with earnings falling to $1.17 billion, or 33 cents per share, down from $1.4 billion, or 40 cents per share, during the same period last year. On an adjusted basis, the company earned 40 cents per share, which was in line with Wall Street expectations. Revenue for the April to June quarter also declined — from $25.5 billion to $22.5 billion — but still came in slightly higher than analysts had forecast.
