All 11 victims of the Bengaluru stampede were aged below 40, with the youngest being 13 and at least six in the age group of 20 to 30.
Police have identified the deceased as Divyanshi (13), Shivaling (17), Chinmayi (19), Prajwal (20), Bhoomik (20), Shravan (20), Sahana (25), Akshata (27), Devi (29), Poornachand (32), Manoj Kumar (33).
The stampede due to overcrowding outside Chinnaswamy Stadium took place during the celebrations for the IPL-winning team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which brought home the trophy after an 18-year wait. Thousands of cricket fans thronged the stadium on Wednesday (June 4) with chaotic scenes at the venue, so much so that the police were unable to enforce crowd control measures and even resorted to mild lathicharge.
Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar said the crowd was mostly young fans, and apologised for the tragic incident. Most had come with friends and family to cheer on their team and many had travelled from other districts and states to get a glimpse of their favourite cricketers.
According to reports, the youngest victim, 13-year-old Divyanshi, travelled all the way from Andhra Pradesh to see her favourite cricketer, Virat Kohli. She was visiting with her mother, aunt, and sister.
The child died of suffocation and a head injury near one of the gates. Her aunt said there was no police support at the venue. 'There was no one to help provide CPR or anything. There was so much police protection when the chief minister came, but nothing at the stadium," she was quoted as saying by The CSR Journal.
Shravan, another 20-year-old victim, was also from Chintamani, while Devi was from Andhra Pradesh, Shivaling from Kannur, Akshata from Mangaluru, and Poornachand, who was a civil engineer from Mandya district, as per official sources.
Hospital authorities on Thursday said most of those injured in the stampede were discharged from hospitals and a few still being treated are out of danger.
At Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru, of the 10 patients admitted, only two are still being treated, said medical superintendent T Kemparaju. A total of 18 patients were treated at the hospital, the official said.
Kemparaju told PTI that the patients at his hospital were mostly treated for minor scrapes, breathing difficulty and anxiety. 'We are still treating a patient who had fractured his leg after he fell down and another 14-year-old boy for a minor injury. Because the injury is near his right eye, he is kept under observation," Kemparaju said.

IPL performances should not be counted while selecting the team for the longest format. Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Trophy should be the basis for Test selection," he said. Abhimanyu Easwaran, 29, has played 103 first-class matches, scoring 7841 runs at an average of 48.70. He has 27 centuries and 31 fifties.

Bengaluru: Karnataka government on Thursday reinstated IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was suspended along with four police officers in connection with the June 4 stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium here, pending disciplinary proceedings. The government has on Monday revoked the suspension of two IPS officers: B Dayananda - Additional Director General of Police, who was Bengaluru Police Commissioner when the incident happened, and Shekar H Tekkannavar - Superintendent of Police, pending disciplinary proceedings, along with two Karnataka State Police Service officers: C Balakrishna - Dy SP and A K Girish - Police Inspector. Meanwhile, the government on Thursday also issued a notification appointing Dayananda as Additional Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), and Shekhar H Tekkannavar as Superintendent of Police, Intelligence. "The Government of Karnataka, in exercise of the powers conferred under Rule-3(7)(c) of All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1969, hereby revokes the order of suspension of Vikash Kumar Vikash, IPS (KN: 2004) and reinstates into service with immediate effect, pending the initiation of Disciplinary proceedings under Rule 8 of All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1969," the government order said. Vikash is now posted as Inspector General of Police, Internal Security Division, Bengaluru, in the vacant post. He was Additional Commissioner of Police (West) and in charge of stadium security when the stampede happened. Vikash's suspension wasn't revoked along with the other four police officers on Monday, and officials had cited a case relating to his suspension pending before the High Court. Vikash had challenged his suspension before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which revoked the suspension order on July 1. The government has challenged the CAT order in the High Court. A separate notification was issued giving posts to Dayananda and Tekkannavar. Dayananda is posted to a position that has fallen vacant due to the superannuation of Malini Krishnamoorthy (DGP) on Thursday. Shekhar H Tekkannavar is posted as Superintendent of Police, Intelligence, Bengaluru in the vacant post. He was Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) during the stampede incident. The stampede occurred on the evening of June 4 outside the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's maiden IPL victory celebrations. Eleven people died and 56 were injured in the incident.

The Hundred looking to feed off IPL's 'phenomenal growth' after drawing Indian investment
The investment of four IPL owners into The Hundred will enable the England and Wales Cricket Board-backed event to grow rapidly and learn immensely from the skills possessed by the top minds working for the world's biggest T20 league. Out of the eight teams in the 100-ball competition, four will be partially owned by owners of Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals (only GMR group involved). After a long delay, the ECB finalised the deals with the IPL and other investors on Wednesday. Reliance Group, which will own 49 percent of the London-based Oval franchise, and Trent Rockets are yet to close agreements with the ECB. "It's brilliant. You look at what the IPL has done, forget cricket, in sport in general, the growth it's achieved in 18 short years. It's nothing short of phenomenal," said Vikram Banerji, Managing Director of The Hundred, in response to a PTI query on Thursday. "So the growth and the learnings, both on the field and off the field, that they can bring into this tournament, with the balance of the other investors that we've got from America and wherever else, I'm really excited about that side of things, about the skill sets that are now coming into English cricket," he said. The deal will take effect from 2026 season and the investors will take operation control of the franchise from October 1, 2025. Asked about the reason for the delay in closing the agreement with the Reliance-backed Oval franchise and Trent Rockets, Banerji said: "Right at the start we offered all the investors the opportunity to sign and close immediately whenever the legals were all done and have some involvement in this year. "On the whole, it's been run as it was, or close formally at the end of the season, early October, when they close formally, when they take operational control of the name of the brand. So those two chose that months ago. "With Trent Rockets, it's documents were signed and all the rest of it fully there. With the Oval Invincibles, there's three things left on their venue hire stuff that they're working through. They're small things, it'll be a matter of weeks, and that'll get signed out." Banerji and the rest of the stakeholders will soon have a meeting with the new investors for the tournament operations from 2026 onwards. Barring The Hundred, all leagues including the IPL are being played in the T20 format. Is there an inclination from the IPL owners to switch to the standard T20 format from the current 100-ball a side format? "I think you have to look at what works in this country. There have been some discussions around kind of it works elsewhere, but in this country, the format has provided us with some really interesting things, especially from a broadcast perspective in terms of the reach it's provided and that ability to create a new crowd. "At the moment, it's the 100 format, and that will remain for now. But let's see where we get to in a month," said Banerji, who added the participation of active Indian players remains off the card despite the IPL investment into the competition. Sitting alongside Banerji, ECB chief executive Richard Gould, was also asked about the participation of Pakistan players in The Hundred in light of Indian investment. No Pakistan player was picked in the 2025 draft for different reasons. Gould asserted the ECB will take action if the owners are found to be discriminatory in player selection irrespective of his nationality. "We would expect players of all nations to be selected for all teams. I haven't had the need to have any discussion at this point (with new investors)." So is the latest draft just a coincidence? "I don't, I don't know. But we have not had any discussions with the owners at this point. But, we've got very clear anti-discrimination policies within cricket in England. And if those are, if those are not adhered to, our cricket regulator will take action," said Gould. Now that the deals are done, the ECB expects the change in name of at least three teams backed by IPL team owners including Reliance, RPSG and GMR. The sale of stakes have catapulted the valuation of teams to over 975 million pounds with more than 500 million pounds set to be invested in English cricket.
