An off-duty US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent was shot late Saturday night during an attempted robbery in New York City's Riverside Park, police said. Officials believe the incident was random and not related to the agent's job.
According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, 21-year-old Miguel Mora is a person of interest in the case. He was hospitalised with gunshot wounds believed to have been sustained during the encounter and is expected to be arrested.

The CBP agent was sitting by the water in Manhattan when two men approached him on a scooter. One of them pulled a gun. The agent, realising he was being robbed, drew his own weapon. A shootout followed. The agent was shot in the face and forearm, while the gunman was also injured. Both suspects fled the scene.
'Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden. He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED. The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage,' US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, helping investigators identify Mora as the shooter. He later arrived at Bronx Care Hospital with gunshot wounds matching those seen on the video.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he visited the wounded agent in hospital. His condition has not been disclosed.
Commissioner Tisch said Mora is in the U.S. illegally, having crossed the border through Arizona in 2023. He has a criminal history, including two domestic violence arrests, an active warrant for missing a court date, and is wanted for a robbery in December 2024 and a stabbing in January 2025.

Mora is currently in police custody at Lincoln Hospital after undergoing surgery.

Stephen Colbert and his show The online stabs between the talk show hosts and the President of the US arose after CBS abruptly decided to retire Stephen Colbert's 'The Late Show' in May 2026. Bryan Kohberger sentencing today in 2022 Idaho student murders: Victims' families to speak at hearing

Bryan Kohberger, the former criminology PhD student who pleaded guilty to the brutal 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday (July 23) in Boise, Idaho. The hearing, beginning at 9 a.m. Mountain Time, is expected to last all day and could stretch into Thursday to allow time for victim impact statements. Kohberger, 30, admitted earlier this month to killing Madison Mogen, 21; Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Ethan Chapin, 20. In return for his guilty plea and waiver of appeal rights, prosecutors dropped the pursuit of the death penalty and instead recommended four consecutive life sentences without parole. While the sentence is largely a foregone conclusion, the hearing offers the victims' families and surviving roommates a platform to express their pain. However, many families remain anguished by the lack of answers. Kohberger has never explained his motive, and investigators have not publicly speculated on why he targeted the King Road rental house in Moscow, Idaho, or why two surviving roommates were spared. Under Idaho law, Kohberger will have a final opportunity to address the court before sentencing — a moment often used by defendants to express remorse. However, it remains unclear whether he intends to speak. Even President Donald Trump weighed in this week, writing on Truth Social: 'I hope the judge makes Kohberger, at a minimum, explain why he did these horrible murders.' Prosecutors detailed a methodical investigation that led to Kohberger's arrest in Pennsylvania weeks after the killings. DNA from a knife sheath found at the crime scene matched genetic material retrieved from Kohberger's family's trash. His Amazon account revealed a purchase of a military-style knife eight months before the crime. Investigators also cited cellphone records and surveillance footage showing a white Hyundai Elantra — matching Kohberger's car — repeatedly passing by the victims' home on the night of the attack. Cellphone data also placed him in the neighborhood multiple times before Nov. 13, 2022. Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson ruled out certain motives during the July 2 plea hearing. According to him, there is no indication of a sexual component or sexual assault in these crimes. Despite this, many details remain shrouded in mystery due to sealed court documents and a sweeping gag order imposed to preserve Kohberger's right to a fair trial. Some families were reportedly angered by the lack of consultation before the plea agreement was finalised.

Donald Trump Screams 'Witch Hunt'; Epstein Wedding Photo Comes Back To Haunt Him

Shocking new images have re-ignited the controversy surrounding President Trump's long-rumored ties to Jeffrey Epstein. A resurfaced photo from Trump's 1993 wedding to Marla Maples shows Epstein present among guests, reportedly captured by photographer Dafydd Jones, who later claimed the negatives were lost. Jones told CNN he wishes he'd captured more of Trump and Epstein together. Other images place Epstein near Howard Stern at the event. Footage from a 1999 Victoria's Secret show also shows Trump and Epstein casually chatting. Their friendship dates back to the 1980s, with Trump famously calling Epstein 'a terrific guy' in 2002 and adding, 'he likes beautiful women... on the younger side.' Trump's name appeared in Epstein's flight logs at least seven times, and his book How to Get Rich even refers to Epstein as 'the mysterious Jeffrey.' Trump now denies sending Epstein a 2003 birthday note featuring a nude drawing, which the Wall Street Journal reported — a story Trump is currently suing over. Read More
