Will NY pols finally come to their senses after shooting of CBP agent by an illegal immigrant?
Saturday night's shooting of a border agent by an illegal immigrant sums up nearly everything wrong with progressive policies — on the border, crime, New York's sanctuary-city status and more. The 42-year old off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer was sitting in a park with a friend when two armed thugs rolled up on a moped aiming to mug the unsuspecting pair. One shot the agent in the face, yet the hero agent somehow managed to fire back. Advertisement No surprise: Both suspects turned out to be illegal immigrants who slunk in during the Biden border rush. Alleged triggerman Miguel Mora, 21, has a lengthy record of arrests for violent crimes in The Bronx and Massachusetts, and a deportation order back to the Dominican Republic, to boot. Christhian Aybar-Berroa also has violent-crime rap sheet with an order of removal to the DR. Advertisement Aybar-Berroa and Mora were each stopped at the border and then ushered into the country. That was the norm for four long years: Joe Biden opened the doors wide and invited any miscreant or predator who made his way to the Mexican border to come in and make himself at home. That was the start of a cascade of policy failures pushed by progressives. Miguel Mora allegedly shot the federal agent. Obtained by NY Post Christhian Aybar-Berroa was also arrested in connection to the shooting. @sec_noem Advertisement Start with Biden himself. On the very day he was inaugurated, the new prez fulfilled his campaign promise to halt all deportations for 100 days. We don't know exactly how many people crossed the border, or who they are — but Biden's border-jumpers clearly number in the millions New York state, too, played a catastrophic role in helping Mora and Aybar Berroa pursue their perverted 'American Dream.' Advertisement Then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Democrats in Albany passed disastrous criminal-justice 'reforms,' including the elimination of cash bail in 2019. Soft-on-crime judges and prosecutors released perps with abandon. How'd that work out? Failures to appear and rearrests for new crimes rose, predictably. Thugs like Mora and Aybar Berroa were often freed minutes after being booked. Gov. Kathy Hochul added to the damage by extending a Cuomo-era order that makes New York a 'sanctuary jurisdiction.' State employees are directed not to cooperate with federal immigration officers. The result: New York City has become a haven for illegal immigrants who want to prey on locals. Its 'sanctuary' laws removed ICE from Rikers Island and forbade NYPD and Corrections from handing almost anyone over to the feds. And remember: New York pols are generally on the side of the criminals; the City Council openly says it designs laws to minimize the 'immigration consequences' for illegal migrants. Advertisement And if ICE comes to arrest you, you can count on clowns like city Comptroller Brad Lander to create a scene — assuming there's a camera nearby. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem got it wrong when she blamed Mayor Eric Adams for the city's sanctuary-city rules. He's actually fought to roll them back and has tried to cooperate with ICE officials when legally allowed to. But she was 1,000% right in fuming that there's 'zero reason' someone 'who is scum of the earth like this should be running loose on the streets of New York City.' Advertisement President Donald Trump has done his bit by closing the border and empowering ICE to deport violent criminal illegal immigrants. But progressives have fought him tooth and nail to keep us unsafe, helping create an environment where an innocent border agent gets shot in a park. How many more such shootings before they come to their senses?

Spain beachgoers asked to spot tattoos in bid to catch most-wanted fugitive
Spanish Police believe alleged sex offender Alvaro Pasquin Mora could be blending in with fellow tourists on the beaches or around the hotel pools of the Costa resorts British holidaymakers are being urged to keep their eyes peeled - because one of Spain 's most wanted fugitives could be lounging right next to them on a sunbed. Police believe Alvaro Pasquin Mora, a 'sex offender' currently on the run, could be blending in with fellow tourists on the beaches or around the hotel pools of the Costa resorts, which are popular with Brits. And now, Spanish authorities are hoping eagle-eyed Brits might be the ones to spot him. In a social media appeal released today, Spain's National Police shared images of Mora's distinctive tattoos in the hope that someone might recognise him. Investigators have described him as 'one of the country's most wanted men.' 'Could a fugitive go unnoticed on a beach?' one officer asked, alongside the wanted post showing close-ups of the tattoos that could hold the key to tracking him down. The officer continued: 'This one couldn't. We ask you if you see these tattoos on the beach or at your pool to call us because Alvaro Pasquin Mora could be on the towel beside you. He's one of the most wanted fugitives in Spain.' One of the tattoos he has - inked on the top of his chest - says in Spanish 'La suerte está echada' which in English would translate as 'The Die Is Cast.' He also has tattoos on his arms. Another officer involved in the appeal said in a second video selfie: 'Look closely at this face. We are looking for this man for a crime of sexual abuse for which he is due to go to prison. He is called Alvaro Pasquin Mora and he is one of the most wanted men in Spain. 'He is 33 years old, he is of slim build, he is 5ft 6ins tall and has dark hair and brown eyes as well as a number of tattoos. The more people see this video the closer we will be to finding him. If he looks familiar to you or you have information about him please contact us. One of the ways you can do that is by sending in an email to us at losmasbuscados@ ' Spanish police have been contacted to see if they can offer any more detail about the crime the fugitive has been linked to. It was not immediately clear today if his arrest order involves his entry into prison on remand or because he has already been convicted of crimes. A well-placed Spanish police source said: 'We would love to receive information from anyone who can help. If that happens to be a British tourist who spots this man lying on the beach next to him from his very distinctive tattoos, then that would be great.'

Off-duty Border Patrol agent shot in NYC park in apparent botched robbery, police say
National security Gun violence Federal agenciesFacebookTweetLink Follow An off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in a Manhattan park on Saturday following an apparent robbery gone wrong, New York City police and federal officials said. The 42-year-old officer was in stable condition Sunday and expected to survive. There was no indication that he was targeted because of his employment, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. The officer, who was not in uniform, had been sitting with a woman in a park beneath the George Washington Bridge when two men approached on a moped just before midnight. The passenger got off and approached the officer, who realized he was being robbed and drew his service weapon, Tisch said. The two exchanged gunfire and the off-duty officer was shot in the face and arm. The perpetrator was injured before he and the moped driver rode off, police said. A person of interest, identified as Miguel Mora, a 21-year-old undocumented immigrant with an extensive criminal past, was taken into custody after arriving at a Bronx hospital with gunshot wounds to the groin and leg, Tisch said. It was unknown if Mora had an attorney. The police commissioner said Mora's injuries were consistent with what was seen on surveillance video of the shooting shared by the Department of Homeland Security. The search for his alleged accomplice continued Sunday. Mora entered the country illegally through Arizona in 2023 and had two prior arrests for domestic violence in New York. He was wanted in New York to face accusations of robbery and felony assault, and in Massachusetts over a stolen weapons case, Tisch said. In a social media post Sunday afternoon, President Donald Trump seized on the shooting as evidence of Democrats' failures to secure the border. 'The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage,' Trump added. The shooting comes as federal officials warn of a surge of attacks on agents carrying out Trump's mass deportation agenda. As enforcement efforts have ramped up in recent months, many officers have chosen to cover their faces with the goal of avoiding harassment in public and online. On Sunday, the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Todd Lyons, said he would allow agents to continue covering their faces as a safety measure. 'If that's a tool that the men and women of ICE that keeps themselves and their families safe, then I will allow it,' Lyons said.

21-year-old in NYPD custody for shooting off-duty Border Patrol agent
July 20 (UPI) -- A 21-year-old undocumented migrant with an extensive criminal history is in police custody following a robbery-turned-shooting of an off-duty Border Patrol agent in New York City, officials said Sunday. Miguel Mora is in police custody at Lincoln Hospital, where he underwent surgery following the exchange of gunfire late Saturday with the unidentified Border Patrol agent in Riverside, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters during a Sunday afternoon press conference. The suspect sustained gunshot wounds to the groin and leg. The press conference was held at Harlem Hospital, where the 42-year-old Border Patrol agent was recovering from his injuries. He was shot in the face and forearm, and is expected to survive. Join us for a briefing about the shooting of an off-duty federal officer last night in Upper Manhattan: Mayor Eric Adams (@NYCMayor) July 20, 2025 The incident occurred at about 11:53 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said the border agent and a friend were sitting on rocks along the waterside, when two males riding a scooter neared. The passenger got off and approached the officer, producing a firearm. Tisch told reporters that upon realizing he was being robbed, the Border Patrol agent drew his own service weapon. "The perp fired first, and an exchange of gunfire followed," she said, before the suspects fled the scene. At 12:18 a.m. Sunday, Mora arrived at BronxCare Health System with wounds matching those sustained by the suspect seen in CCTV footage of the shooting, she said. He was in police custody but had not been formally arrested at the time of the Sunday afternoon press conference. Authorities are still looking for the alleged accomplice who is accused of driving the scooter. Tisch said Mora illegally entered the United States via Arizona from Mexico in 2023. She said he has two prior arrests for domestic violence in New York and an active warrant for failing to appear in court in one of those cases. He was also wanted in the state for robbery in December and felony assault with a stabbing in January, with both those alleged crimes occurrring in the Bronx. Mora was also wanted in Massachusetts in connection to the February robbery of firearms from a pawn shop. Authorities said the Border Patrol agent does not appear to have been targeted due to his profession. The firearm used to shoot the Border Patrol agent has yet to be recovered, authorities said. "In less than one year, he has inflicted violence in our city, and once he is charged for last night's crimes, we will be able to add attempted murder to his rap sheet," New York City Mayor Eric Adams said.
