Overnight fire in Old East Village deemed suspicious
A residential fire in Old East Village, which kept crews busy overnight, has been deemed suspicious by police.
Around 3 a.m. firefighters responded to the two-storey home on Dufferin Avenue near Quebec street.
According to London fire, the home was 'fully involved' and an aggressive attack was initiated, with multiple units on scene. Nearby residences were evacuated as a precaution.
The fire was declared out a few hours later but due to the extensive damage, one truck is staying at the scene to monitor for hotspots.
Dufferin Avenue is completely blocked between Ontario and Quebec streets.
A fire prevention officer is on the scene to determine the cause. There is no indication if anybody was home at the time of the blaze. No injuries have been reported and the cost of damage is unknown.
Police continue to investigate.

Fire at French holiday home for people with disabilities leaves 3 dead, 2 missing
PARIS — A fire swept through a holiday home housing people with disabilities and their carers in southwest France on Monday, killing at least three people, critically injuring another and leaving two people missing and feared dead, authorities said. The blaze erupted at around 4:30 a.m., destroying part of the guest house in Montmoreau in the Charente region, the local prefecture said. Two dozen fire engines and more than 80 fire officers rushed to tackle the blaze, which brought down parts of the roof, exposing charred beams. Sniffer dogs didn't find traces suggesting that the people missing escaped the flames, said Jean-Charles Jobart, secretary general of the Charente prefecture. He said three people were confirmed dead and two others were still missing, feared buried under the ruins. The critically injured person was poisoned by smoke, he said. York police charge doctor with two counts of sexual assault
Police in York Region have arrested a doctor on sexual assault charges. York's Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a doctor with sexual assault after a victim reported two incidences. Police say the person attended a medical clinic on Markham Road. During the visit, the person said the doctor touched them in a sexual manner. The victim left immediately and reported the incident to the police. While telling police of the experience, the person also recalled a previous appointment at the same clinic in November 2023, when the doctor's actions were also inappropriate. At that time, the person didn't report the event because they believed the conduct might have been part of a legitimate medical procedure. Police are asking the public to review the photo of Dr. Saber Abdel Malouka Abdel Malak, 62, of Whitchurch-Stouffville who has been a physician for more than 30 years. Police say a sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. They encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim to report the incident to the police.
