In ''Football City, Art United,' Artists and Athletes Reimagine the Beautiful Game
While art and sport may move in differently – in the studio and on the field – a shared energy pulses through them; fueled by drive, discipline and instinct, both disciplines not only give us a language for how to understand the world, but how to move through it.
ForFootball City, Art United, a new exhibition in Manchester, international athletes are paired 11 contemporary artists, with each collaboration bringing forth a new artwork that looks within and beyond the pitch to reimagine the emotional, cultural and political charge of the Beautiful Game.
Staged within the industrial interior of theOMA-designedAviva Studios, the exhibition joins the curatorial efforts of footballer Juan Mata, curatorHans Ulrich Obristand filmmaker Josh Wilding in an expansive showcase of painting, video, performance, architectural intervention and playable installations.

Extending outside of the venue,Rose Wylierenders practice shots of English defender Lotte Wubben-Moy's in streaks of brilliant hues, spilling them onto the streets in a series of billboards.

Ruben Amorim insists exiled Manchester United players will not be sold on the cheap
Ruben Amorim has insisted Manchester United will not sell their players on the cheap and he is ready to welcome the four exiles back into his squad should suitors not match the club's valuations on them. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have been left out of United's travelling party to the United States, and are training separately from the senior team at Carrington as talks continue on their exits. Advertisement There is a sense that the players want to wait until late in the window so that their price tags fall with United under pressure to agree deals, but Amorim said rival club directors with that mindset will be 'surprised' by chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox. 'I think that is not the case because there are different reasons for the players,' said Amorim, speaking at Soldier Field after a training session with his team. 'Some players have to find a new place to have more space in the team and other players clearly show they want a new challenge and want new teams. We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide. 'If we reach a point where they have to join the team, they will join the team because they are our players. I know for a fact Jason, Omar, and the club have a number for these players. If they (clubs) don't reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise.' Garnacho featured in 58 games for United last season but was told by Amorim in a dressing room address following the final game that he needed to find a new club. Chelsea are interested but there is a belief Garnacho is prepared to see what happens as the window develops in case his fee falls. Set against this is his wish to play for Argentina at next year's World Cup in the U.S., to which Amorim alluded. 'I'm ready to receive the players, they have more competition. If you want to play in the World Cup next year you need to play, so I'm really happy with that because I have more options. If they have to fight each other to play (laughs), for me it's perfect.' Kobbie Mainoo's future was up for discussion in January, and the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both No 10s, appear to limit the 20-year-old's chances, especially in a campaign with no European football. But Amorim has called him a 'big talent', albeit one with aspects to improve. 'I think he can play in both positions in the midfield,' said Amorim. 'Last year he played more in front, I think his perfect position is more near the ball, always with the ball. Advertisement 'I think he is a big talent. I think he needs to increase the rhythm, the pace, I'm always on top of that with Kobbie, because he is so good sometimes, but he can be better, so I have big plans. 'But again, one game per week, the competition is going to be huge, and everybody has to be prepared to play one game, or play all the games, that is a key point in our season.'

Drake and Central Cee drop new track after Wireless tease
Drake has dropped a new single with UK rapper Central Cee ahead of a three-night run of shows in Manchester. The song - Which One - was revealed during an episode of the Canadian's Iceman stream, broadcast on Thursday, which was filmed around the city. It features scenes of the rapper running from a pursuer in a Pinocchio mask - a symbol fans interpreted as "lies" following Drake around. Which One is the second collaboration between the Hotline Bling star and Central Cee, who released his first album at the start of this year. The artists previously came together in the booth back in 2023 for the song On the Radar Freestyle. Drake teased his latest during the second of his three headline slots at London's Wireless festival. He brought Central Cee on-stage during his performance, and told the crowd: "I'm so proud of this guy. "He's going around the world, killing it, shutting down every show, record after record." Drake also praised other UK rappers during his takeover of the festival. "Nobody can out-rap London rappers. This is the best, this is the highest level," he told fans. Drake's feud with Kendrick Lamar captivated music fans last year, and any new release from either rapper is scoured for references to the other. Earlier this month, Drake released What Did I Miss? which addressed the beef, questioning the loyalty of friends choosing to hang around with his rivals. Fans speculated he was referring to NBA player LeBron James and fellow Toronto singer The Weeknd. The song debuted at number two on the US Billboard 100 chart, and Drake expressed frustration at being kept off the top spot by Alex Warren's hit Ordinary. "I'm taking that soon don't worry, one song or another," he wrote on his Instagram Story. Iceman will be Drake's 9th studio album and his first solo release since 2023's For All Of The Dogs, which went to number one in the charts. "I'm working on my album, we got a lot to talk about," he told the crowd at his Birmingham concert this week, part of his first UK tour in 6 years. In February, he released $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, a collaborative album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, which features the viral hit 'Nokia'. Drake is one of the most-streamed artists in the world and is currently tied with Michael Jackson as the male solo artist with most number one songs (13) in Billboard Hot 100 history. England captain Ben Stokes retires early on 66 not out against India
MANCHESTER, England (AP) — England captain Ben Stokes retired hurt with apparent cramp as his team dominated day 3 of the fourth cricket test against India on Friday. Stokes was 66 not out in the evening session at Old Trafford with England leading by 133 runs. The all-rounder had looked uncomfortable for some time as he tried to stretch out in between balls and was left hobbling during one run before eventually going off. He left England in a commanding position, largely thanks to a century from Joe Root, who moved up to second on the all-time list of test run scorers behind first-placed Sachin Tendulkar. Stokes, whose half-century followed his five wickets, was replaced by Jamie Smith with England on 491-4. His retirement comes after India's Rishabh Pant retired hurt on day one with a foot injury and returned on day 2. England leads the five-match series 2-1. ___ James Robson is at James Robson, The Associated Press
