Mary Fong Lau, 79, is accused of mowing down Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, 40, Matilde Ramos Pinto, 38, and their two children with her SUV as they waited at a bus stop in the West Portal neighborhoo d last year.
In a new lawsuit filed against Lau, she was accused of hiding her assets after being hit with civil action by the victim's families.
Lau is facing the lawsuit under the Uniform Voidable Transactions Act, which alleges that she fraudulently transferred her interest in real estate in San Francisco to avoid losing them in financial restitution.
Lau was hit with a wrongful death lawsuit in June 2024, and according to the lawsuit first reported by KTVU, she transferred her stake in three properties in August.
The day after she transferred her stake to two newly formed Nevada limited liability companies, her attorneys filed a motion to halt the wrongful death case until her criminal trial is over.
Lau's attorneys quickly shot back at the allegations, saying: 'We want to be clear that this is not the case. In the aftermath of the accident, Ms. Lau and her family sought professional help from legal, financial, medical, and mental health consultants.
'While Ms. Lau was advised to reorganize her property holdings in the months following the accident, none of these transfers were intended to evade potential damages arising from this heartbreaking event.'
Lau's attorney Seth Morris insisted that she will fully cooperate with both criminal and civil cases against her.
'As a mother and grandmother, she acknowledges the immense suffering of those who lost loved ones and understands their families deserve to be compensated for their very unfortunate loss.'
Lau is set for a preliminary hearing on July 17, with her case upended after she was alleged to have changed her story over the horror crash.
The San Francisco Standard reported that Lau told witnesses at the scene that she was trying to park when she accidentally hit the accelerator during the fateful incident on March 16.
However, Lau told cops at the hospital that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 she was driving malfunctioned before she plowed into the bus shelter where the family of four was struck.
Investigators found no problems with Lau's car, which they said was traveling at an estimated 66 to 75 mph, the Standard reported.
The crash killed the couple and their sons, 1-year-old Joaquin Ramos Pinto de Oliveira and three-month-old Cauê Ramos Pinto de Oliveira, as the family was waiting to catch a bus to the zoo.
Lau has pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter. She was ordered not to drive and to turn over her driver's license to the court.
Her attorney, Samuel Geller, told the Standard that there is a 'level of hearsay' in the witness statement given to police, noting that the witness was paraphrasing comments made by Lau in the wake of a traumatic incident.
'I would ask the public to reserve judgment until the court process has taken its course,' Geller said.
'This is a horrific tragedy, and Ms. Lau continues to mourn this incident to this day.'
Some witnesses said Lau suffered a medical incident before the crash. Others said she got out of the car yelling, 'What have I done?'
Diego and Joaquin were killed at the scene while Matilde and Cauê succumbed to injuries in hospital.
The family lived in the Mission District and planned to spend a day at the zoo for their wedding anniversary, friends said.
Diego, a creative director at Apple, was from Brazil and Matilde was a film and advertising producer from Portugal.
Other people waiting for the bus to arrive were also injured in the crash and received medical attention.
One witness, Nikki Mashburn, told The San Francisco Chronicle that she heard the crash and that is sounded like 'an explosion.' She said that the victims suffered head injuries.
'When the paramedics showed up, you could tell … they didn't know what to do first,' Mashburn said.
Following the tragedy, advocacy group Walk San Francisco and locals voiced concerns about the intersection of Ulloa Street and West Portal Avenue where the bus stop is located.
The group noted that around the intersection, there are multiple places frequented by families and children, like a library, schools and train stations.

Then, in January 2024, he called the police to report that his father, Jayson, was assaulting him, leading to his arrest. During the incident, the father 'pushed Tyler to the ground and pushed his thumb into his mouth,' according to the arrest affidavit. A month later, Tyler was slapped with more than a dozen felony charges for a series of thefts from vehicles – and for using stolen credit cards at local gas stations. Tyler Boebert pleaded guilty last October to a single charge of attempting to commit identity theft and was given a two-year deferred judgment, allowing his felony to be cleared from his record after completing his 24-month probation term. He was required to complete 80 hours of community service and was banned from using controlled substances. It was not immediately clear whether the most recent citation would be a breach of his probation. He is due in Weld County Court on September 8.

WASHINGTON, July 27 (Reuters) - The uproar over disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein could undermine public trust in the Trump administration, as well as Republican hopes of retaining control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections, two U.S. lawmakers said on Sunday. Republican Representative Thomas Massie and Democratic Representative Ro Khanna, who want the House of Representatives to vote on their bipartisan resolution requiring full release of the government's Epstein files, said the lack of transparency is reinforcing public perceptions that the rich and powerful live beyond the reach of the judicial system. "This is going to hurt Republicans in the midterms. The voters will be apathetic if we don't hold the rich and powerful accountable," Massie, a hardline conservative from Kentucky, told NBC's "Meet the Press" program. Republicans hope to add to their current 219-212 House majority -- with four seats currently vacant -- and 53-47 Senate majority in November 2026, although the U.S. political cycle traditionally punishes the party of the sitting president during midterm elections. Khanna said Attorney General Pam Bondi triggered "a crisis of trust" by saying there was no list of Epstein clients after previously implying that one existed. Four friends dead in horrific freeway car crash involving drunk driver
Four friends tragically lost their lives in a car accident after a drunk driver slammed into their vehicle on a freeway in Norwalk, California. At around 1am on July 20, the group of 24-year-olds was driving home from a concert when their Nissan got involved in a crash with a California Highway Patrol vehicle and stalled on in the middle of the 605 freeway. That's when a Kia slammed into the back of the Nissan at high speed, causing the latter to burst into flames and trapping the four friends inside, where they all died. According to officials, the Kia's driver was drunk. 'This was entirely preventable due to the fact that one of the drivers was driving under the influence,' said CHP Officer Zachary Salazar. The victims were identified as Julie Harmori, her boyfriend Armando Del Campo, and their two friends, Jordan Partidge and Sam Skocili. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Kathy Stickel, Harmori's aunt, said that Partridge had called her mother after the initial crash with the CHP vehicle to let her know that the group had been in accident, but that they were okay. However, in the middle of the call, the line went dead. This was the moment the Kia slammed into their car. Stickel said that the four friend had formed deep-rooted friendships with one another that stretched back many years. 'She was about the relationships,' Stickel said of her niece, adding that the group had been friends since junior high school. The families of all four victims are turning to each other for support. 'All the parents are checking on each other,' Stickel said. 'They're also checking on people who they've met through this whole tragedy.' Family members created a joint GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses. 'Proceeds will be divided evenly among the four families' parents, as they scramble to memorialize their children,' the fundraiser page read. Heartbreaking The other two victims were identified as the couple's two friends, Sam Skocili left) and Jordan Partidge (right) The Kia driver, Iris Salmeron, 26, of Bellflower, and her passenger, who was unidentified, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Salmeron was arrested and is now facing multiple felony charges, including driving under the influence. CHP Officer Salazar said: 'Our hearts go out to the families who are involved in terms of the victims…our officers are going to investigate this to the best of their ability.'
