KTR bobs up at Press Club for debate while CM is away in Delhi
The BRS leader, who came to the Press Club with a large number of supporters, said that Revanth Reddy, known for running away from his own challenges had ran away once again and announced giving one more chance to the CM to participate in the discussion. Rao came to the club at 11 AM, fully prepared for an open debate on issues concerning Telangana's farmers. However, the Chief Minister did not turn up, as he was in New Delhi.
After 30 minutes of wait, addressing the media, KTR accused Revanth Reddy of 'running away from his own challenge'. He said the CM's absence only proves that the Congress government had no meaningful answers for the crisis facing Telangana's farmers. 'Over 600 farmers have died by suicide since the Congress came to power. Did the Chief Minister even observe a minute's silence for them?' KTR asked. Revanth said six guarantees would be implemented within 100 days. It's been 18 months and not even one has been delivered, alleged KTR.
The BRS leader said that he had come to the press club with complete data — including names and contact details of hundreds of farmers in Kodangal who haven't received Rythu Bharosa, a list of farmers whose loans were not waived, and details of those who lost their lives due to crop losses and neglect. Criticizing Revanth Reddy's governance, KTR said the Congress government had dragged the state back into the dark days of fertilizer shortages, transformer explosions, and long queues outside supply depots. He compared the present rule to an 'Indiramma Emergency' referencing both the emergency-like suppression of dissent and the betrayal of welfare expectations associated with the Congress slogan. KTR also questioned the CM's knowledge of Telangana's irrigation projects, saying Revanth lacked even basic understanding of river basin allocations and water rights.
Further, KTR accused the Chief Minister of functioning as a covert agent of Chandrababu Naidu, facilitating the diversion of Telangana's Krishna and Godavari waters to Andhra Pradesh. Taking a dig at the CM's rhetoric, KTR said, 'Revanth knows how to scream and abuse, but when it comes to debating facts, he disappears. He challenged me, and I came. But he ran. Even if he couldn't attend, he should've sent the Deputy CM or the Agriculture Minister.'
Offering one more opportunity, KTR said, 'Choose the time, date, and place. We are ready for an open debate anywhere. Even Jubilee Hills Palace, if that suits him. But don't issue hollow challenges and run away. If you can't face a discussion, then apologise to KCR and to the farmers of Telangana for your lies and failures.'

‘Baseless, threatening allegations': EC hits back at Rahul Gandhi over Karnataka LS poll ‘cheating' remark
The Election Commission of India on Thursday did not waste any time in issuing fiery responses to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'cheating' allegations. The Leader of Opposition had accused the poll panel of 'allowing cheating' in a constituency in Karnataka, adding that the Congress had 'concrete 100 per cent proof' of it. Hours after the Congress leader made these remarks, ECI spokesperson on Thursday said that all electoral rolls are prepared transparently and copies were shared with recognised political parties. 'ECI is wondering as to why such baseless and threatening allegations are being made against CEC and that too now?' the poll panel asked. The ECI spokesperson further said that as far as electoral rolls of Karnataka Lok Sabha 2024 are concerned, 'not a single appeal' was filed with the District Magistrate of the Chief Election Officer of Karnataka. 'As far as conduct of Lok Sabha elections 2024 are concerned, out of 10 Election Petitions, not a single Election Petition was filed by any loosing INC candidate,' the ECI spokesperson added. Rahul Gandhi severely criticised the poll body over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, warning the opposition would not let them get away with the exercise. "I want to send a message to the Election Commission: If you think you are going to get away with it, if your officers think they are going to get away with it, you are mistaken. You are not going to get away with it, because we are going to come for you," the Lok Sabha LoP told reporters outside Parliament, just after the Lok Sabha was adjourned. He accused the ECI of indulging in "cheating" during the voter list revision process in a Karnataka constituency. Gandhi claimed to have "100 per cent" proof of the alleged manipulation, which involves adding and deleting voters, but hasn't presented any evidence yet, an ANI report said. "Today, we have 100 per cent proof of the Election Commission allowing cheating in a seat in Karnataka. When we decide to show it to you, it is 100 per cent proof. We just looked at one constituency and we found this. I am absolutely convinced that, constituency after constituency, this is the drama. Thousands of new votes, aged 50 or 60, or 65 (are there) in one constituency. Then, voter deletion, people who are way above 18," he said. The opposition parties, including Congress and the Samajwadi Party, have been protesting against the SIR exercise, alleging that it's an attempt to disenfranchise voters, particularly from marginalised communities. They claim that the process is being used to remove names from the voters' list, which could impact the outcome of upcoming assembly elections, the ANI report added. Reiterating the claim that the poll panel is not fulfilling its duties, the Lok Sabha LoP added, "I said this yesterday too; this is a very serious matter. The Election Commission is not functioning as the Election Commission of India. Today they made some statement; this is complete nonsense. The fact of the matter is that the Election Commission is not doing its job." Rahul Gandhi, along with other opposition MPs like Akhilesh Yadav and DMK MP TR Baalu, held protests in Parliament premises, raising slogans against the Election Commission and the BJP-led NDA government. The MPs held posters that read "SIR is the murder of democracy" and "Justice, Justice, Justice", demonstrating their strong opposition to the SIR exercise. The poll body has defended the revision process, stating that it's aimed at ensuring the purity of elections by removing ineligible voters from the rolls. The commission has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, affirming its authority to verify citizenship details in the interest of electoral integrity.

'Misleading': Centre rejects Swiss firm's pollution rankings; cites limited government data usage by report
NEW DELHI: The central government on Thursday rejected the Swiss firm's IQAir report, that had ranked India the fifth most polluted country in the world, citing limited usage of government data in the survey. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "However, it must be noted that only 38 per cent of the data sources used in the report are from government agencies. The remaining 62 per cent are from other agencies and include data generated using low-cost sensors," Union minister of state for environment Kirti Vardhan Singh said responding to a question by Congress MP Pramod Tiwari in the Rajya Sabha. "The data from a variety of monitors and sources, especially low-cost sensors, may have inaccuracies. Moreover, the report uses population-weighted averages based on data from urban monitoring stations, which may not represent the true national average," the minister said. "In view of these limitations and uncertainties in the data, the ranking of cities and countries may not portray the true picture and could be misleading," he added. In response to a query on whether air pollution is causing deaths and affecting public health nationwide, the minister said there is no conclusive data to establish a direct link between air pollution and mortality. "Air pollution is one of many contributing factors that can affect respiratory ailments and related diseases. Health is determined by several variables, including food habits, occupational exposure, socio-economic conditions, medical history, immunity, heredity and environmental factors," Singh said. According to IQAir's 2024 World Air Quality Report, India ranked as the fifth most polluted country in the world based on air quality data. The report named Byrnihat in Meghalaya as the most polluted metropolitan area globally, with an annual average PM2.5 concentration of 128.2 µg/m³, over 25 times higher than the WHO-recommended limit and more than three times the national standard.

He chose to threaten a constitutional body: EC on Rahul's Karnataka claims
The Election Commission on Thursday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's claim that it allowed cheating in a Karnataka constituency and said that besides making "baseless allegations", the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha chose to "threaten" a constitutional body. Gandhi said the Congress has "concrete 100 per cent proof" that the Election Commission (EC) allowed cheating in a constituency in Karnataka and warned the poll panel that it will not get away with this "because we are going to come for you". Responding to Gandhi's statement, the EC said that as far as the Karnataka elections are concerned, it is "highly unfortunate" that rather than filling an election petition as per Section 80 of the Representation of the People Act 1951, or if filed, awaiting the verdict of the high court, he not only made "baseless allegations" but has also "chosen to threaten" the EC, a constitutional body. Gandhi alleged that the EC is not functioning as the Election Commission of India, and is "not doing its job". Asked about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's reported remarks that the option of boycotting the Bihar assembly polls was open, Gandhi told reporters in the Parliament House premises that his party has "concrete 100 per cent proof" of the EC allowing cheating in a seat in Karnataka. "Not 90 per cent, when we decide to show it to you, it is a 100 per cent proof," the former Congress president said. "We just looked at one constituency and we found this. I am absolutely convinced that constituency after constituency this is the drama that is taking place ... I want to send a message to the Election Commission -- if you think you are going to get away with this, if your officers think they are going to get away with this, you are mistaken. You are not going to get away with this because we are going to come for you," Gandhi said.
