I&PR Minister laments that govt. could not effectively communicate spree of welfare schemes to the people

Revenue and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has lamented that the State government could not take the spree of welfare and developmental programmes introduced and implemented since the Congress took over the reins effectively to the people. The BRS indulged in hoodwinking the people through false propaganda during its 10-year rule and was continuing the same as the main Opposition party in the State. 'Our government is unable to explain to the people about the host of welfare schemes launched in the interests of poor and lower classes,' he said. The Minister made the remarks during a video conference with the district public relations officers on Tuesday. He recalled how the Indiramma government headed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy took several initiatives to fulfil the promises ahead of the previous elections as well as schemes that did not find a mention in the party's election manifesto, but was not able to communicate the achievements effectively to the people. In addition to a slew of welfare schemes like free bus travel to women, LPG cylinder at subsidised price of ₹500, farm loan waiver, Rythu Bharosa and others, the government successfully filled 60,000 vacancies in different departments making Telangana the first State to make such massive recruitments. 'Unlike the previous government which mislead the people through Goebbels' propaganda in its 10-year rule, the Congress government implemented spree of welfare schemes in one-and-a-half years of its rule,' he said. He cited the distribution of new ration cards to seven lakh families in addition to including names of 15 lakh members in ration cards. The Bhu Bharati Act was enacted to mitigate the hardships faced by farmers in securing rights on their lands. The government had implemented these schemes in spite of the financial constraints it faced ever since it took over the reins. Mr. Srinivas Reddy directed the I&PR officials to take the schemes to the people as it was their responsibility to effectively communicate the government's welfare-centric schemes.

Telangana Govt To Fill One Lakh Job Vacancies By Mid 2026: CM Revanth Reddy

CM Reddy said that the Congress government set a national record by recruiting 60,000 people within a year of taking office in December 2023. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Monday that his government aims to fill one lakh job vacancies by June 2026, within two and a half years of assuming office. At an event in Nalgonda district where he launched the distribution of new ration (PDS) cards, Reddy highlighted that the Congress government set a national record by recruiting 60,000 people within a year of taking office in December 2023, as reported by PTI. Reddy criticised the previous BRS regime for failing to fill government vacancies for 10 years, which forced thousands of unemployed youth to prepare for competitive exams in Hyderabad. 'Today, I am giving my word. We will provide one lakh government jobs before this government completes two and a half years (June, 2026) and make their (job aspirants) families live with self-respect," Reddy said. He questioned whether the opposition BRS had considered distributing new ration cards to the poor during its 10-year rule. Highlighting the Congress government's pro-poor and pro-farmer schemes, Reddy mentioned that the administration ensured the implementation of the 'Rythu Bharosa' investment support scheme, crop loan waivers, MSP, distribution of fine rice through PDS instead of coarse rice, and new ration cards. He noted that the TDP (1999-2004) and Congress (2004-2014) in undivided Andhra Pradesh, and the BRS (2014-2023, December) in Telangana, each governed for 10 years. The Chief Minister projected that Congress would remain in power for 10 years (from December 2023 to 2034) and reiterated the goal of transforming Telangana into a USD one trillion economy by 2035. Regarding the caste survey and SC classification undertaken by his government, Reddy assured that 42 per cent reservation would be provided to backward classes in local body polls as per the recent cabinet decision. This, he said, was a promise made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Earlier, in a post on X, he mentioned that 5.61 lakh new ration cards are being distributed, ensuring food security for 3.10 crore people across Telangana. view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 10:42 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Farmers being misled on urea shortage: BJP

The BJP has accused the Congress Government of sowing the seeds of doubt into the minds of farmers in Telangana about the purported shortage of urea for the Rabi season, even when the Centre had actually supplied three lakh metric tonnes more. Addressing the farmers' wing (Kisan Morcha) of the party, during a meeting of its office-bearers at the State BJP office here on Thursday, party president N. Ramchander Rao said that the 'urea shortage bogey' is being created by the ruling party only to reap the benefit during the forthcoming local body polls. The BJP chief charged the government with spreading falsehoods when the Centre had supplied 12.02 lakh metric tonnes of urea for the 24-25 agriculture season, when the demand was just 9.5 lakh metric tonnes. In fact, under the Modi Government, necessary steps were taken to provide ample supply of fertilizers to farmers across the country and also in dealing with black marketers with an iron hand, unlike the UPA regime 'where farmers were forced to stand in queues for obtaining it', he added. Yet, the Congress Government here wants to mislead farmers and to cover up its own failures in not ensuring proper payment of Rythu Bharosa, which has been cut from the promised ₹15,000 during the elections to ₹12,000, but now ₹6,000 is being credited into farmers' accounts, he said. Mr. Ramchander Rao also said that the farmers' welfare scheme payment was made last month only after the High Court had directed the local body polls to be held by September end. It has been 19 months since the Government has come to power but there has been no movement to provide the farm insurance which would help the famers during natural calamities under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana and following the BRS Government in this connection, he said. The former MLC also questioned the government about the Bhu Bharati module replacing the controversial Dharani of BRS regime and said it is marked with technical glitches. 'Farmers are forced to run around registration offices for justice still and there is a lack of accountability from the administration side. We should go to the local level and highlight farmers' grievances,' he advised the wing. The BJP leader said such is the sad financial condition in the State that retired employees are being denied benefits and made to run from pillar to post. General secretary G. Premender Reddy, farmers' wing national executive member G. Madhusudhan Reddy and others were present. Medak tour Mr. Ramchander Rao will tour Medak district and participate in various programmes, organised by the BJP, in Narsapur, Chegonta, Medak, and Toopran, on Friday, said a press release.

BC reservations are historic, says Cong leader

Hyderabad: Sircilla district Congress leader Nevuri Venkat Reddy stated that the ordinance to be issued by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's government, providing 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies, will go down in history. He addressed the media on Wednesday at the MLA Colony, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills. He said that despite the good work being done by CM Revanth Reddy, opposition leaders are resorting to protests and demonstrations, which should now come to an end. He remarked that although many governments have come and gone in the past, none could determine the exact population of BCs. However, under the initiative of CM Revanth Reddy and PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, a comprehensive BC caste census was completed, as per the directive of Rahul Gandhi. With this census completed, the entire country is now looking towards the 'Telangana Model,' he said. He further mentioned that with 42% reservations in local body elections, the BC community would be indebted to the Congress government and that it would open up significant political opportunities for them. He criticized the opposition parties for spreading misinformation and said that the BRS party, which was in power for ten years and did nothing for the BCs, is now engaging in new dramas in the name of protests and agitations. He concluded by stating that ever since the Congress party came to power, many beneficial schemes have been implemented for the poor — such as free electricity, Rythu Bharosa (Farmer Support), Mahalakshmi Scheme, subsidized gas, and fine rice distribution — and that these schemes are being well-received by the public.
