Gaudreau Family Friend Shares Tribute to Johnny and Matthew on Day of Sister Katie's Wedding

Yahoo15 hours ago
Katie Gaudreau is getting married on Friday, July 11, and one of her friends will be sure the bride's late brothers, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, are represented.
Jamie Hill, a longtime friend of the Gaudreau family, shared a photo of his wedding day socks via Instagram on Friday morning. One is emblazoned with the initials JG, and the other, MG.
Katie, 26, is set to marry fiancé Devin Joyce in Philadelphia almost a year after her brothers' unexpected deaths forced them to postpone.
Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver the night before the wedding while riding their bicycles in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, on August 29, 2024. Johnny was a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets at the time, while Matthew played collegiate hockey at Boston College.

Hill revealed in January that he will stand in Johnny's place at the wedding, sharing a handwritten note from Katie and Devin, in which they called him Katie's 'additional big brother.'
'I'm beyond honored to stand in my best friends place to watch his little sister walk down the aisle and marry her best friend,' he wrote in the caption. 'Katie and Dev I know both John and 'Matty will be with you on your special day. They're so proud of the people you have become and love you so much. I miss my boys so much, everyday feels like a bad dream but I know they'll be watching on this day 🩷'
Katie replied to the post with, 'Love you so much.'
Hill also promised to be there for both former athletes' families as they navigated such a difficult time in their lives.
Johnny married his wife, Meredith Gaudreau, in 2021, and the couple welcomed daughter Noa in 2022 and son Johnny Jr. in February 2024. Meredith announced in September while giving her husband's eulogy that the couple was expecting a third child, and their son Carter was born in April 2025. Matthew and his wife, Madeline Gaudreau, also married in 2021, and Madeline gave birth to son Tripp in December, four months after the accident.
Katie Gaudreau Says Late Bros Johnny and Matthew Will Be 'Dancing and Celebrating' at New Wedding
'Dear John and matty I swear to you both aunt V and uncle Jame will be there to help Meredith and madeline get through this tragic time,' Hill wrote via Instagram in September. 'They are stronger beyond belief. Your kids will know how great, loving, caring, selfless and overall good human beings you were, all the amazing times we had and how much they were loved by you guys. My heart aches and I don't think this hole will ever go away. Just know we will love your kids and be there no matter what you have my word. Until we meet again I love you my brothers.'

Beloved '90s Actor Breaks Social Media Silence on Death of Co-Star in Heartbreaking Post

Beloved '90s Actor Breaks Social Media Silence on Death of Co-Star in Heartbreaking Post originally appeared on Parade. Ian Ziering has broken his social media silence on the death of his Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star, Shannen Doherty. On the one-year anniversary of Doherty's death, Ziering posted a heartfelt message on Instagram. "When I first heard she was sick, we had nearly a decade more with her. And even then, most of the updates sounded less like 'Shannen's fighting cancer' and more like 'cancer picked the wrong woman.' That was her way—strong, defiant, take-no-prisoners tough," Ziering began. "Every time I saw her during those years, she was still Shan—fierce, funny, full of life. That's why her passing hit me like a freight train. I was shocked. I truly believed she was going to pull off one more miracle." "When she died a year ago, I didn't post anything. And yes, some people criticized that. To them I say: grief isn't a performance. It's personal. Let people grieve how they grieve," he continued. "Over the past year, I've seen my old castmates a few times. It's been hard being together without her—and Luke. That kind of loss doesn't fade. It just rearranges the furniture in your heart." Ziering went on to say that he misses Doherty and that he thinks of her "often." "Your kind heart that so few really got to see. I still carry all of it with me. Rest easy, Shan," he concluded. Dozens of fans took to the comments section of the post to send Ziering love and to let him know that his tribute was "beautifully written." Doherty died on July 13, 2024, after a long journey with breast cancer. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Beloved '90s Actor Breaks Social Media Silence on Death of Co-Star in Heartbreaking Post first appeared on Parade on Jul 14, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jul 14, 2025, where it first appeared.

Kobe Bryant not in NBA's all-time top 10? Shaq thinks that ranking is 'criminal'

Shaquille O'Neal, left, and Kobe Bryant, shown in 2017, won three NBA titles together as Lakers teammates. (Mark J. Terrill / AP) Shaquille O'Neal has an issue with a recent ranking of the all-time best NBA players. On Monday, Bleacher Report released its list of the "top 100 NBA players ever," based on a compilation of rankings from a "legion of B/R NBA experts, writers and editors." Advertisement O'Neal finished just outside the top five. He didn't seem to have an issue with that. Shaq's beef was with the placement of his former Lakers teammate, the late Kobe Bryant, who landed outside of the top 10. He left his comment a little more than an hour after the original Bleacher Report post went live. Here are the 10 players ranked ahead of Bryant, in order from the top: Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, O'Neal, Tim Duncan, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain and Stephen Curry. Advertisement Bryant is followed on the list by Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin Durant, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West. O'Neal has made no secret of his feelings on where Bryant ranks among the league's all-time greats. In 2023, the Diesel told The Times that his "first team" on such a list would be himself, Bryant, Jordan, Johnson and James. Last month, in connection with the Netflix docuseries "Power Moves with Shaquille O'Neal," Shaq revealed another personal top 10 list in which he ranked Bryant at No. 2, behind Jordan and just ahead of James. Advertisement Bryant ranks fourth in all-time NBA scoring (33,643 points) and his "Mamba Mentality" work ethic is still cited as a major influence on current athletes. He spent the first eight years of his career as Lakers teammates with O'Neal, with L.A. winning three NBA titles during that span. Read more: Finally a postseason force, Julius Randle credits Kobe Bryant for instilling 'Mamba Mentality' Those Lakers also lost to the Detroit Pistons in the 2004 NBA Finals. Soon after, O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat, with tension between the two superstars seen as one of the main reasons for the move. O'Neal won another NBA title with the Heat in 2006. Bryant won two more with the Lakers, in 2009 and 2010. Over the years, O'Neal and Bryant acknowledged their rocky relationship as teammates but also insisted that they actually were close friends. Advertisement 'I just want people to know that I don't hate you, I know you don't hate me. I call it today a 'work beef,' is what we had,' O'Neal told Bryant on 'The Big Podcast with Shaq' in 2015. "We had a lot of disagreements, we had a lot of arguments," he said later. "But I think it fueled us both.' Years later, when it appeared their feud might be heating up again, the two NBA greats took to social media to nip that notion in the bud. "Ain't nothin but love there," Bryant wrote of his relationship with O'Neal. 'It's all good bro,' Shaq responded. Bryant and his daughter Gianna were among the nine people who died in a Jan. 26, 2020, helicopter crash in Calabasas. O'Neal was one of the speakers at the Feb. 24, 2020, memorial service for "my friend, my little brother Kobe Bryant and my beautiful niece Gigi." Advertisement "Kobe and I pushed one another to play some of the greatest basketball of all time and I am proud that no other team has accomplished what the three-peat Lakers have done since the Shaq and Kobe Lakers did it," O'Neal said. "And sometimes like immature kids, we argued, we fought, we bantered, we assaulted each other with offhand remarks on the field. Make no mistake, even when folks thought we were on bad terms, when the cameras are turned off, he and I would throw a wink at each other and say let's go whoop some ass. "We never took it seriously. In truth, Kobe and I always maintained a deep respect and a love for one another." Football season is closer than you think: Here's when the NFL returns in July

Football season is closer than you think: Here's when the NFL returns in July originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The 2025 NFL season is quickly approaching – perhaps faster than you think. July 13 marks exactly eight weeks before the first Sunday of the regular season, but action is much closer to kicking off than that. Advertisement Between training camps, joint practices and preseason games, you'll soon be hearing all the updates about your favorite teams and players. Who looks good? Who is struggling? All that fun stuff that football fans obsess over during the summer. But how close exactly are we to seeing players on the field? Here's a look at the summer schedule for the NFL: NFL training camp dates for 2025 Every player – excluding holdouts – will be back in the building in the next 10 days. The Los Angeles Chargers' rookies have already reported to training camp, and more across the league will join them in the coming days. Believe it or not, the first kickoff of the 2025 season is later this month. The Los Angeles Chargers and Detroit Lions will face off in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, July 31, airing on NBC and Peacock. This game is held annually on the Thursday before Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions in Canton, Ohio. The Chargers and Lions likely won't be playing many – or any – starters, considering the quick turnaround after the start of training camp. But just seeing those uniforms on the field is a welcome sight for football fans. Advertisement When does NFL preseason begin? The Hall of Fame Game is technically the start of the preseason action, but the rest of the league won't be playing for another week after that. Week 1 of the 2025 NFL preseason will be held from Thursday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 10. Here are the Week 1 preseason games: Thursday, Aug. 7 Colts at Ravens Bengals at Eagles Raiders at Seahawks Friday, Aug. 8 Lions at Falcons Browns at Panthers Commanders at Patriots Saturday, Aug. 9 Giants at Bills Texans at Vikings Cowboys at Rams Steelers at Jaguars Titans at Buccaneers Jets at Packers Chiefs at Cardinals Broncos at 49ers Sunday, Aug. 10 Dolphins at Bears Saints at Chargers When is the start of the NFL season? The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will host their division rival Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 opener on Thursday, Sept. 4. That game also airs on NBC and Peacock as Philly raises its second Super Bowl banner. Advertisement Week 1 continues on Friday with the Chargers and Chiefs facing off in Brazil, followed by a full Sunday schedule on Sept. 7 and a Monday night matchup between the Bears and Vikings to wrap things up.
