Affin Group names RM1m grand prize winner in flexible savings plan campaign
The prize presentation ceremony was held at Menara Affin @ TRX and marked the conclusion of the campaign, which ran from Aug 8 2024 to April 30 2025 and attracted nearly 117 million entries nationwide.
The campaign also awarded cash prizes of RM108,888, RM58,888 and RM28,888 for first, second and third places respectively, alongside other tiered rewards.
Affin bank executive director of group community banking, Encik Mohammad Fairuz Mohd Radi, said the campaign reflects the bank's commitment to rewarding loyalty and providing meaningful experiences for customers.
'As we mark our 50th anniversary this October, we aim to go beyond traditional banking by creating value, celebrating our customers and upholding our promise of Unrivalled Customer Service,' he said.
The group will continue its celebrations with the upcoming Affin Jubilee Campaign: '50 Years, 50 Prizes', which also offers a RM1 million grand prize.

Some workers take on two jobs, delay marriage to cope with living costs
KUALA LUMPUR: The minimum wage rate of RM1,700 has brought some relief to young workers, but some say it remains inadequate to cope with the rising cost of living, especially for those residing in urban areas. A report by Utusan Malaysia found that employees are being forced to make adjustments to their lifestyles to make ends meet. These include holding down two jobs, bringing packed meals to work, cooking at home, and even postponing major life plans such as marriage. Mohammad Noriman Ahmad Zarkhoni, 22, is among those feeling the pinch. He works as both a food delivery rider and a factory operator, as his RM1,500 income from delivery work alone is not enough to cover his monthly expenses. Although the dual workload is exhausting, he said he has little choice. "Time management is crucial to avoid feeling overwhelmed. So far, I'm managing. "However, I do hope there will be an improvement in the minimum wage, especially since the cost of living in the capital is much higher than in rural areas," he said. Similarly, 25-year-old Muhd Rafiq Ridzuan Zainatul Rahman said his income as a food delivery rider is not enough to save for a wedding, forcing him to delay his marriage plans. "The intention to marry is there, but since my savings are still insufficient, I've chosen to continue saving to cover the cost of the wedding ceremony in the future. "I think postponing it is the best decision for now, considering the rising cost of living. I'll need to work longer in order to save enough," he said. Thaqif Adib Marozi, 23, said he also brings his own meals to work but only has time to cook on weekends due to a packed weekday schedule. "On weekdays, I usually eat just once a day and opt for the cheapest meals available. I hope the prices of raw ingredients won't continue to rise," he said. On July 23, the Human Resources Ministry announced that the full implementation of the RM1,700 minimum monthly wage will take effect on Aug 1. It will apply to all employers, regardless of the number of employees. Failure to comply with the Minimum Wage Order under the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011 is an offence punishable by a fine of up to RM10,000 per employee.

'While this is highly appreciated , what the island needs is something more than a temporary spell of boom or else this is akin to good weather followed by long drought,' he said. Wong reiterated that what would have a more lasting effect on the economy would be to restore the full duty free status of the island on cigarettes and abolish the restricted shopping of duty-free beer to only four cans for visitors. RM5,000 venture brings in RM1 million yearly

Kota Kinabalu: With just RM5,000 young Sabah entrepreneur and athlete Jonathan Wong built a thriving aquaculture business within just nine years and whose yearly revenue now exceeds RM1 million. For this, he was presented with a 'Penternak Ikan Jaya' award by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the closing of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day (HPPNK) 2025 at Sabah International Convention Centre, Sunday. He received a trophy and RM20,000 cash from Anwar, witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup and Deputy Chief Minister cum State Agriculture and Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Jonathan thanked his team for their dedication and hard work, and to his family for their unwavering support. Jonathan is the elder son of prominent Sabah entrepreneur and Chinese community leader Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen and Datuk Wong Ten An. Besides being executive director of developers WSG Group, he founded and expanded his own aquaculture business in Tuaran. The company's core operations include the farming of white shrimp, milkfish, hydroponics, eggs farming and related processed products. He said his company aims to adopt more IoT-based systems to increase both production output and quality through smart farming technologies. 'We will implement more modern technologies and methods to improve the survival rates and the quality of aquaculture products,' he said. The 'Penternak Ikan Jaya' is one of Malaysia's prestigious agriculture awards. Recipients are recognised for their innovative technologies, sustainable practices, and positive contributions to the community. The award not only honours personal or corporate achievements but also aim to inspire more people to venture into agriculture to promote technological advancement and stimulate economic growth within communities. Among Jonathan's innovations is cultured duckweed as a key ingredient in fish feed, a breakthrough that earned him the Most Outstanding Commercial Collaboration Award in Eskpo Kecemerlangan Reka Cipta (Excocipta) 2024. Jonathan represented Malaysia in international long jump competitions. He has won numerous major awards, including two gold medals at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix and making it into the Paralympic finals twice, bringing glory to the nation.
