A brand-new boat bar from the Grand Banks crew is cruising into Hudson Yards
Sailor's Choice, a sprawling 200-seat seafood bar from the team behind beloved boat bars like Grand Banks and Pilot, opened yesterday at 350 11th Avenue at 30th Street. It's the latest project from hospitality duo Alex and Miles Pincus, whose Crew group has practically defined the city's waterfront drinking scene. This time, though, they're doing things a little differently: Instead of floating on the Hudson, they've brought the boat to land.
At the heart of Sailor's Choice is a vintage Hinckley fishing vessel, transformed into a full-service bar and surrounded by a sunny deck with yellow-and-white striped umbrellas. 'It's a gentleman's yacht that's designed after a classic Maine lobster boat,' Alex Pincus told Time Out. 'It's one of the most desirable boats in the boating world—I've wanted one my whole life. So the idea of setting one in the plaza and building the bar around it just made sense.'
A second bar, tucked inside a retrofitted Airstream, pours spritzes and other breezy cocktails, while the main deck channels East Coast summer with none of the ferry schlep.
The menu nods to classic New England seaside fare with a polished Manhattan twist: You'll find lobster BLTs, golden-crisp fish and chips and oysters shucked to order—available by the half or full dozen. For those who like their comfort food with a side of indulgence, the caviar-topped tots are a no-brainer. 'The lobster BLT is the standout for me,' says Pincus. 'It's such a good bite of summer; it's exactly what you want to eat when you're by the water.'
On the drinks side, expect yacht-club classics and warm-weather crowd-pleasers: gin and tonics, martinis, watermelon-vodka spritzes and a curated wine list. But don't miss the namesake "Sailor's Choice," a frosty beer served over ice with lime for just $7, lifted straight from the brothers' post-sailing ritual. 'It's what we always drink after being out on the water,' says Pincus. 'A lobster BLT and a Sailor's Choice out there in the sun brings me back home.'
Though Hudson Yards may have seemed like an unexpected fit, Pincus says the location wasn't so far off from the team's usual approach. 'All the projects we have ever done are really rooted in place,' he says. 'We took a site that didn't really have anything on it... and tried to explore what the potential of that location is and how it engages with us in the way that we think about restaurants and experience.' Once the idea of placing a boat in the plaza surfaced, he says, 'it all sort of suddenly made sense.'
Now open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sailor's Choice offers a fresh new reason to eat and drink near the Vessel —and you don't even have to check the ferry schedule.

I'm happily married with kids but I've been keeping a shocking secret from my wife for six years - do I tell her?
A happily married dad has dropped a shocking bombshell about his secret double life. Alex*, believed to be from New Zealand, confessed he cheated on his wife with another woman six years ago when he was on a six-month work trip. 'We ended up having a kid together,' the man, whose voice had been altered as a disguise, told The Edge Breakfast during the Truth Booth segment. 'I had a child with another woman that no one knows about.' Radio hosts Ash London, Clinton Randell and Dan Webby were lost for words as the unfaithful dad explained how he had been living with guilt all these years. Getting it off his chest for the first time, Alex admitted he still struggles to wrap his head around the secret, knowing deep down it would destroy not only his marriage but also his relationships with friends and family. 'I've been married for over 10 years with children,' he explained. Reflecting back, Alex said he had an extramarital affair six years ago while working overseas for six months. 'I found out about five years ago that we ended up having a kid together,' he said. 'Not to mention the fact that it's financially draining me, and I almost feel like this will come out at some point... it needs to. It's a bit tricky.' Alex said he's been quietly sending the other woman payments to support their son, which has taken a financial toll on him. 'My wife has pointed that out, and I've just said I'm investing more into my investments, which I guess technically is true because his future is my investment,' he said. He then made another surprising revelation - he has never met his love child in person - only through videos. 'At first I didn't believe it, but then my child has a birthmark that is virtually identical to mine and my mother's, which kind of passes down through genetics,' he said. The radio hosts tried to put a 'positive spin' on the situation, with Dan suggesting that Alex was 'partly a good person' for supporting his secret child financially. When asked if he could ever see his worlds collide, Alex said: '100 per cent. Honestly sooner rather than later. 'My heart is beating a mile a minute right now because I don't even know how to approach the situation to be quite honest,' the dad confessed. 'I would absolutely love to meet my son, and I would like my son to be a part of my life and my children's lives.' Ash chimed in with her advice on what Alex should do. 'I don't know you from a bar of soap and you don't know me, but I'm just going to speak as a wife and a mother... You need to tell your partner,' she said. 'This will eat you alive. And we have one life. Every day that you go on keeping this secret is a day less that you have a relationship with your child. 'They don't know their parent. The longer you leave it, I feel the worse it is. Human beings are complex, but we're also forgiving, and I think truth and light is always better than darkness.' Alex said he feels a sense of 'dread' and 'relief' by the thought of coming clean. 'I ultimately feel it would be beneficial for all parties, maybe not right now or six months or five years down the line, but at some point it is, I've got to rip the band-aid off,' he said. 'It's quite challenging.' He said he knows his wife will be 'heartbroken' when the day finally comes that he confesses. 'All things aside, I would call myself a good father and a good husband, despite the obvious,' he said. 'I've been feeling I'm keeping something that I would cherish, you know, a secret. And it's just, it's really not fair.' Ash was brought to tears as the dad explained how he just wanted to tell his wife the truth but was afraid of the consequences. 'I feel like the trust is quite literally irreversible, irreversibly broken and it's unfortunate,' Alex said. 'God knows I would do anything to rectify it and to move forward, but it's literally juggling my current family and my wife with the child who I want in my life.' After his confession, Alex said he will eventually come clean to his wife. 'I can definitively say I will inevitably and 100 per cent bring this to light,' he said.

Huge crime thriller axed after just one series despite rave reviews and 4million viewers
HIT crime thriller Joan has been canned – because star Sophie Turner is too busy. ITV's brilliant drama team has spent months trying to find a window in the Game of Thrones star's schedule to film a second series — but have had to admit defeat. 6 A spokesman told me: 'ITV and Snowed-In Productions would love to produce another series of Joan. 'However, as a consequence of cast availability, and following co-production discussions, a second series isn't possible.' The glossy series told the true story of glamorous Joan Hannington, a jewel thief who stole more than £3million of gems in London in the 1980s and earned herself the nickname The Godmother in the city's criminal underworld. ITV's six-part series about her life was shown in autumn last year and attracted more than four million viewers per episode. It ended on several cliffhangers, with Joan vowing revenge on her two-timing criminal ally Albie and promising to build herself a new business empire after spending four years in jail for armed robbery. At the time the series was shown, director Richard Laxton said: 'There is definitely potential for the story to go on.' Sophie, who has two daughters from her marriage to American singer Joe Jonas and is now dating aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, is tied up on several projects. She will play video game adventurer Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider TV series as well as appearing in sci-fi movie Cloud One and horror flick The Dreadful, in which she will co-star with Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harington. Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow both made attempts to bring Joan's story to the big screen in the 2000s but failed — so at least ITV managed to get off the starting blocks. Isle's Cot a lot 6 6 Stretch your minds back to 2007, and you may recall Fearne Cotton making her first trip to Ibiza to host The X Factor's spin-off show where she shacked up with Dannii Minogue for Judges' Houses. Four years later she met ex-husband Jesse Wood on the white isle during a girls' trip with celeb pals, including TV host Amanda Byram – and now she has a wellness retreat there. Fearne, who has set up her Ibiza: Unplugged experience with travel booking platform GetYourGuide, said: 'I first visited Ibiza 20 years ago and fell in love with the island's energy and people. 'I've discovered the best secret spots for sunrise hikes, chilly dips and soulful yoga sessions. I've curated the perfect way to unplug and spend a chilled day in Ibiza, guided by true experts.' Sounds like the opposite of a stressful day shooting The X Factor. Suranne is a sure thing 6 A thrilling new trailer has dropped for Suranne Jones ' crime drama Hostage and it's edge-of-your-seat stuff. The former Corrie star plays the British PM who is fighting political pressure from the French president (Julie Delpy) when her husband Alex is abducted and held hostage. Shocking scenes show Alex (Ashley Thomas) at gunpoint as he is forced to make an appeal video. The drama plays out against the backdrop of tense discussion over policing the English Channel. In one scene an aide pleads with Suranne's character Abigail: 'You have to resign.' And she barks: 'We don't give in to terrorists.' The five-parter lands on August 21. I hear more about the hottest TV shows and latest binge-watches each week on our free online show, Showbiz Fix. On the latest episode we delve into Netflix saga Amy Bradley Is Missing, chat about Love Island, and remember Ozzy Osbourne. Matt pal on drug taking 6 Shocking new information on the death of Friends star Matthew Perry will feature in an ITV documentary. The one-off film includes the devastating details of the murder trial that followed his demise in October 2023. Dr Salvador Plasencia has now been charged with giving the actor ketamine. As part of the documentary, which first streamed on Peacock in the US but has since been updated, Matt's on-screen mother from Friends Morgan Fairchild speaks candidly about his drug addiction. ITV boss Sasha Breslau said: 'The film tells the story of Matthew's untimely passing with updated developments not seen before.' Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy will air on ITV1 at 9pm on August 18. The beat goes on for Kay If you thought Love Island 's raunchy heart-rate challenge was tense, may I remind you of Vernon Kay 's gameshow 1,000 Heartbeats? Contestants were kitted out with a heart monitor and had to stay calm while answering questions to win money. But if their heart beat more than a thousand times during gameplay, they immediately lost and left empty handed. Now I can reveal the unusual ITV show, which ran for two series from 2015, could be returning to screens as Hungry Bear Media wants to trademark the name ahead of a possible reboot. The production company, which is run by Holly Willoughby's husband Dan Baldwin, is behind some of telly's biggest hits including the BBC One reboot of Gladiators and Michael McIntyre's The Wheel. If anyone can revive Vernon's show, it's Hungry Bear. Jodie Whittaker, Nicole da Silva and Yael Stone star in drama One Night for ITV. The six-parter follows the fallout after one of a close-knit trio of friends writes a bestselling novel about a traumatic event, one night 20 years ago. The mystery drama lands on ITVX next month. Freddie's secrets unveiled 6 The incredible story of Freddie Mercury 's secret daughter will be told in a Channel 5 documentary. The 90-minute special uses the Queen legend's private journals following an investigation and book by journalist Lesley-Ann Jones. According to her work, Freddie sustained a close relationship with the woman, referred to as 'B', for 14 years before his death in 1991. Lesley-Ann said: 'I thought I knew virtually all there was to know about Freddie. I was wrong. 'Working with his only child to tell his true story in his and his daughter's own words has been the greatest privilege of my professional life.' The documentary will air later this year.

'I'm a French expat in Britain and I was left amazed by one element of UK culture'
Stéphane Jouin, who moved to the UK nine years ago, shared the revelation in a video for his YouTube channel, 'A French guy in England', which showcases the two nations' "cultural quirks" A French expat living in the UK has named a particular aspect of British culture that's left him "amazed". Stéphane Jouin, who swapped France for the UK nine years ago, divulged his findings on his YouTube channel ' A French guy in England ', which delves into the "cultural quirks" of both countries. In his video, '6 Things I Really Appreciate as a French Guy in England', Stéphane shared his observations from nearly a decade in Britain, touching on aspects such as our politeness and tendency to be "merciful". Among these UK insights, he highlighted his admiration for the British propensity for kindness, a trait he finds "amazing" and notes is even promoted by companies and organisations here. Stéphane expressed: "Number two is that people tend to be kind." He elaborated: "I'm actually amazed that people are generally ready to help. For example, if you're stranded with your car on the road, and your bonnet is open - they call it 'hood' in the USA - they will come to ask you if you are okay, if you need any help. I find this amazing." Stéphane added that acts of kindness are "part of everyday life here." He also pointed out that the UK is home to many charities that support people suffering from health issues. He pointed out that British firms and groups are known for rallying people to join events they organise to raise money for charitable causes. On the flip side, in May, a Brit living in France took to TikTok to share five reasons why life across the Channel is "better." The expat, known as Alex or "It's moi" on the platform, presented her "household edition" of insights. First up was the revelation that people in France tend not to have their washing machines in the kitchen, instead opting for the bathroom or elsewhere, meaning you "don't have the eyesore or the noise" in the kitchen. But there's more; Alex also highlighted the convenience of having plug sockets in the bathroom, "square-shaped" pillows for extra headroom, and shutters on every window. Alex said: "You don't have to worry about blackout blinds or blackout curtains if you want to make the room dark. You just close the shutters, which is absolutely fantastic when you have children." Finally, Alex claimed that a "lot of the houses around here" tended to be detached rather than semi-detached. She said they didn't have to worry about any "potential noise problems" from neighbours. However, not everyone saw things the same way, with one commenting: "I'd hate to have a washing machine in my bathroom." Some did agree with the TikToker, with one claiming that once you try using a square pillow, there's "no going back".
