San Francisco Unicorns reached the final of the 2024 MLC.
MLC 2025:
The San Francisco Unicorns' journey in Major League Cricket (MLC) has been a tale of resilience and revival. After a disappointing debut in 2023—where they missed out on the playoffs and finished fifth—they bounced back in spectacular fashion in 2024, making a deep run to the final before falling just short of the title.
As the 2025 season kicks off on June 12, the Unicorns will be eager to put the heartbreak of last year's final behind them and launch a fresh title charge. They begin their campaign with a blockbuster clash against reigning champions Washington Freedom at the Oakland Coliseum in California

Under the leadership of Aaron Finch, the Unicorns began their MLC campaign with promise, defeating MI New York by 22 runs in their opening match.
However, their momentum faltered with a 35-run loss to Seattle Orcas in their second game. They responded with a solid 21-run victory over the LA Knight Riders but were unable to maintain consistency. Consecutive defeats—by 30 runs to Washington Freedom and by 3 wickets to Texas Super Kings—ended their playoff hopes. With just 2 wins from 5 matches, the Unicorns placed fifth in the six-team standings.

The Unicorns began the season on a high, defeating the LA Knight Riders by 6 wickets. They stumbled in their second match, losing to Texas Super Kings by 7 wickets. Their third fixture, again against LA Knight Riders, was washed out due to rain, earning them a single point.
That's when the real turnaround began. The Unicorns went on a four-match winning streak, beating Seattle Orcas by 23 runs, MI New York by 3 runs, and Washington Freedom twice—first by 6 wickets and then by 7 wickets—to storm into the playoffs.
In the Qualifier, however, Washington Freedom turned the tables, handing the Unicorns a 9-wicket defeat. But the Unicorns stayed alive by edging out Texas Super Kings by 10 runs in the Eliminator, booking a place in the final.
Facing Washington Freedom for the third time in the tournament, the Unicorns fell short when it mattered most. In a one-sided final, they lost by 96 runs and finished as runners-up in a remarkable comeback season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
Finn Allen:
Finn Allen emerged as the batting mainstay for the San Francisco Unicorns in the 2024 season. The explosive opener amassed 306 runs in 9 matches at an average of 34.00 and a blistering strike rate of 187.73. He finished as the team's highest run-scorer, with one century and two half-centuries to his name. Allen's dynamic performances at the top were pivotal to the Unicorns' resurgence and run to the final.
Hassan Khan:
All-rounder Hassan Khan played a crucial role in the Unicorns' turnaround season with his impactful contributions in both departments. He scored 204 runs and was the team's second-highest run-scorer, while also finishing as their leading wicket-taker with 10 dismissals. His consistent all-round performances made him one of the most valuable players in the Unicorns' 2024 campaign.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: 'We're hoping he'll bowl tomorrow' – England batting coach gives update on Ben Stokes' fitness

Ben Stokes of England . (Photo by) in Manchester: England batting coach Marcus Trescothick is hopeful captain Ben Stokes will be fit to bowl on Day 5 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford. Speaking after stumps on Saturday, Trescothick said Stokes' absence from the bowling attack on Day 4 was a result of the cramp he suffered on Friday and the workload he's managed across the match. 'It is just a build-up from the workload and the cramps yesterday,' Trescothick explained. 'We are hoping he will be back to bowling tomorrow. We will see what he is like in the morning.' Stokes had earlier made a massive impact with the bat, scoring a superb 141 to help England post 669. That came after his five-wicket haul in India's first innings, underlining once again his unmatched value to this England team. But with India staging a remarkable fightback through KL Rahul and Shubman Gill , England will likely need their captain to contribute with the ball again if they are to take the remaining eight wickets and wrap up the series. Poll Do you believe Ben Stokes will be fit to bowl on Day 5? Yes, he will be fit. No, he will not be fit. The visitors were reeling at 1 for 2 at lunch but recovered well to end Day 4 on 174 for 2, still trailing by 137 runs. The calm resistance from Rahul and Gill has set up a fascinating final day. With a series-leading 16 wickets, Stokes may need to join the attack if the hosts are to dismiss India in time to claim victory. As the leading wicket-taker of the series, England will once again need their captain to step up on the final day, especially if they are to seal the series without going to The Oval. Watch: 'I grew up trying to be like him' – Joe Root praises Sachin Tendulkar as he nears his Test record

England's Joe Root (AP Photo/Jon Super) England star Joe Root , in a chat with Harsha Bhogle for Sony Sports, reflected on his admiration for Sachin Tendulkar , a light-hearted moment during his debut tour to India, and his current place among Test cricket's all-time greats. — SonySportsNetwk (@SonySportsNetwk) An old tweet of Root's from 2013 recently surfaced again, where he wrote, 'Sachin made his debut for India before I was born. Then played in my Test debut. #ThankYouSachin.' Speaking now, Root shared, 'Sachin is one of the greats. What he achieved with the pressure he was under was just phenomenal. When you play against him, you want to copy him, try to emulate him. Getting the opportunity to face him was a true honour.' Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Joe Root tweet He also recalled a moment from the 2012 India tour that left him amazed. 'Pujara had scored a double hundred in the first Test. In the next one, he got out early and the entire crowd started cheering. I didn't get it at first, then realised it was because Sachin was coming in to bat. It felt bizarre but showed how loved and legendary he was.' Ollie Pope press conference: Why Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar's record, Ben Stokes' injury, and more Root recently moved to second on the list of all-time Test run-scorers, overtaking Rahul Dravid , Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting during his superb 150 in Manchester against India. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Jurumudi Baru: Unsold Sofas Prices May Surprise You (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo Now on 13,409 runs, he sits 2,512 behind Tendulkar's record tally of 15,921. Growing up, I used to pretend to be Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara or Brian Lara in my garden or local club. Just to see my name next to theirs is pretty cool.' When asked about the possibility of chasing down Tendulkar, he played it down. 'It's not something I'll focus on. Those things should look after themselves. The focus has to be about winning games.' IND vs ENG 4th Test: For the first time in his career! Jasprit Bumrah creates unwanted record at Old Trafford

India fast bowler has reached an unwanted milestone during the ongoing fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, conceding over 100 runs in a Test innings for the first time in his career. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As play resumed on Day 4, 's figures stood at 1 for 109 from 31 overs, with England still batting and looking to extend their 186-run lead. His previous most expensive innings came against Australia in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he conceded 99 runs in 28.4 overs while taking four wickets. This is also only the second time Bumrah has bowled more than 30 overs in a single Test innings. The last time was in 2021, when he bowled 36 overs against England in Chennai. What's adding to the concern is the visible drop in Bumrah's pace. At Old Trafford, just one of his 173 deliveries has crossed the 140 kmph mark — a sharp decline from earlier Tests in the series. On Day 3, Bumrah had briefly left the field after bowling just one over with the second new ball, reportedly due to a minor ankle injury. He returned later in the day and picked up the wicket of Jamie Smith, but looked far from his usual rhythm. Despite taking 14 wickets in the series so far, Bumrah's recent dip in speed and sharpness has raised fresh questions about his fitness. With England in command and the match slipping away, India will be hoping their pace spearhead can still make a difference.
