On this date in MMA: Ronda Rousey's final win at UFC 190, 10 years ago
To put that in perspective, entire MMA careers of some fighters, including some at championship level, have started and ended since then. But none of them have been during the Rousey Era in MMA.
That era was brief, but littered with groundbreaking highlights. At UFC 190, Rousey entered as the five-time defending women's bantamweight champion – and went into her opponent's territory in Brazil.
There was bad blood with Rousey and Bethe Correira, who said Rousey should kill herself after she loses – perhaps not knowing Rousey lost her father to suicide. Rousey wasted little time taking things out on Correira and put her away in just 34 seconds with a swarming TKO.
Rousey's win over Correira was her last one in MMA. Later that year, she lost her title to Holly Holm in a shocking upset. When she set her sights on the belt again once Amanda Nunes had it in 2016, she quickly was taken out with a TKO and never returned to the promotion after that.

Struber 'open' to more signings if 'right character'
Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber says he is "open" to signing more players in the current transfer window but only if they are the right "character" for the club. Struber, who was appointed in June following Liam Manning's departure, takes charge of his first Championship match on Saturday, 9 August when the Robins face Sheffield United. City have brought in striker Emil Riis, midfielder Adam Randall and goalkeepers Joe Lumley and Radek Vitek - the latter on loan - so far this summer. "We're open, but it's super important that when you have a group that have such good energy together, then it's not just about finding someone who is good on the tactical or technical level - they must also have the right character," Struber told BBC Radio Bristol's Sound of the City. Re-watch: Bristol City manager Gerhard Struber answers questions from fans Struber also said the "door was open" to adding another striker to the squad alongside Riis, Sinclair Armstrong, Fally Mayulu and Harry Cornick, but the "perfect fit" would be a more versatile player. "With one or other player we are more flexible, we maybe bring a player in and he can play in more positions, this would be the perfect fit," he said. "We are looking sharp on the market, I cannot promise but we want to do a good job and hopefully in the end of the transfer window, we can say we made many things in the right way." Bristol City reached the play-offs in May for the first time in 17 years with the smallest squad in the Championship, using just 24 players. The togetherness and bond between the playing group was repeatedly drawn on as a factor in their success which Struber stressed he needed to maintain. "This is a big asset that we are so strong together and this could make a big difference," he said. "I have a big value in this, that my group knows exactly how important it is that we have this togetherness and this energy, this is something what makes us special." A new 'pro-active' style of play Bristol City is Struber's second coaching role in English football, having previously spent 11 months managing Barnsley from 2019 to 2020. He has also had spells at New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg and most recently Cologne, taking the German club to the verge of promotion last season. He said he will bring a more "pro-active" style of play to the team this season. "I don't want to only have one system, I want to be very fluid in how we press and how we handle possession," he said. "We want to press high on the field, we want to be vertical in transition, very direct and at the same time I like it that in possession we find moments of control and domination. "In all faces of the game we want to be unpredictable - not so much [like] the last season." Botafogo agree deal to sign Bournemouth keeper Neto
Botafogo have reached an agreement with Bournemouth to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Neto, according to The Athletic. The Brazilian top-flight club are seventh in the standings and are keen to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season. There will be no transfer fee involved in the deal, but Bournemouth will benefit financially. Neto was one of the highest earners at the club, and his exit will help cut wage costs significantly. His contract was due to expire in June 2026, but both parties have agreed to part ways earlier. Botafogo will offer Neto a deal that runs until 2027. The contract also includes an option to extend by an additional six months. Bournemouth move on from Neto Bournemouth recently signed Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea, a move that reduced Neto's chances of playing regular football next season. Before arriving at Bournemouth, the former Brazilian international played in Italy and Spain. Neto joined Bournemouth in 2022 after a brief stint at Barcelona. He made 63 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries. During that period, he kept 13 clean sheets and established himself as a reliable figure in goal. However, he spent last season on loan at Arsenal and has now been deemed surplus to requirements by Bournemouth. Neto is now set for a new chapter in Brazil as Botafogo continue their push for a strong finish in the league.

Sheffield Wednesday captain expects Championship opener at Leicester to go ahead
Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan expects the crisis-hit club to fulfil their opening Sky Bet Championship fixture away to Leicester. Wednesday's players refused to feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley on Saturday after wages were not paid on time for the fourth time in five months. Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Trust plans to protest against under-fire owner Dejphon Chansiri during Sunday's televised fixture against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium. Asked if there was a prospect of players going on strike, Bannan, who on Saturday signed a new contract at Hillsborough, told talkSPORT: 'No, I don't think so. 'We pulled out of the Burnley game at the weekend, that was simply because it's happened too much now and I think it's a lot easier to pull put of a pre-season friendly game than it is a Championship fixture. 'We've come into training and just got on with it and made it look to the outside world like we're fine with it, so that was our choice then to say enough's enough really.'
