This year's rath (chariot) is being constructed using three kinds of wood: mango, sal, and jamun, with steel reinforcements for added strength. Last year's Rath Yatra generated Rs 1.97 crore, and temple authorities expect higher participation and revenue this time.

BARGARH: For eight generations, the Satpathy family of Gopalpur has upheld a cherished tradition of preparing the sacred Podapitha Bhoga for Lord Dadhibaman Mahaprabhu during the Bahuda Yatra in Bhatli, so much so it has become an important part of the Rath Yatra in Bargarh. After nine days at the Mausi Maa Temple, Lord Dadhibaman is offered Podapitha, believed to be his beloved food. This year, six quintals of the delicacy were prepared by 16 skilled pithakars brought together by the Satpathy family. Made using traditional ingredients like wheat flour, jaggery, ghee, dry fruits, and aromatic spices, the Podapitha is baked in a time-honoured process; wrapped in sal leaves and slow-baked under hot embers, preserving its ritualistic essence through centuries. According to legend, after a devastating fire damaged the temple in the 17th century, the practice of offering Pitha Bhoga instead of Anna Bhoga began. Since then, the tradition of offering Podapitha during Bahuda Yatra has remained unbroken in Bhatli. Devotees believe that Lord Dadhibaman had expressed his wish to taste Podapitha made by his Mausi Maa, adding a deeply personal and intimate layer to the ritual. Kabi Satpathy, a member of the Satpathy family, said preparing Podapitha for Lord Dadhibaman for the last eight generations has been the family's tradition. Devotees pull chariot as Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra return to main temple
Visakhapatnam: Amidst sounds of cymbals and conches, the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra returned to the main temple of Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj after a brief sojourn at Gundicha temple. Known as 'Bahuda yatra', the return journey symbolically marked the completion of the deities' nine-day-long visit to their aunt's place. In Visakhapatnam, the return yatra is celebrated by the Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj, a premier socio-cultural organisation of Odias, with spiritual fervour. Following 'Pahandi Bije' ritual, the deities were taken to the chariot. The yatra commenced after president of the samaj JK Nayak swept the platform as part of the 'Chhera Pahanra' ritual. All along the route, artistes from Gayatri Kala Sangathan from Rayagada performed cultural programmes, including Dhimsa dance. Also, there was a presentation of Odissi and Kuchipudi dance performances by a team of artistes. The procession passed through Lawson's Bay Colony via VUDA Park and children's theatre before reaching the main temple near All India Radio. Marwadi Yuva Manch and Gurudwara Sadh Sangat reached out to devotees through voluntary services.
