Valentin Moldavsky appeared distressed at his opponent's fate
The Moldovan, aka King Kong, was once a top UFC heavyweight prospect.
But the 34-year-old switched to a different Mixed Martial Art earlier this year.
And he was closing in on a PFL heavyweight title shot when a sickening blow sent him reeling.
Romanov was taking on Russian Valentin Moldavsky, 33, in Chicago.

And his eye-watering fate came as early as the opening round.
Romanov struggled to seriously trouble Moldavsky, despite landing a few of his renowned slam takedowns.
And when the younger man got up, he put on enough pressure to leave King Kong tiring.
But little more than 30 seconds were left in the first of the three five-minute rounds when the distressing moment arrived.

The pair were grasping each other on the ropes when Romanov delivered a knee to his opponent.

Romanov instantly slumped to the floor, holding his groin - while his rival protested his innocence.
The ref yelled for medical aid as Romanov was in obvious agony and fight fans looked on worried.
Meanwhile, Moldavsky sunk to his knees, with his head down - apparently in rueful reflection
The cage-side doctor dashed over to treat the stricken giant.
And the doc soon confirmed the inevitable - that Romanov would be unable to continue.
The 18st 13lbs wrestler was then taken away on a stretcher.
It meant the bout - a PFL heavyweight tournament semi-final - was ruled a "no contest".
Romanov had dazzled when winning his only other PFL fight in May, beating 40-year-old American Timothy May by submission.
It left the East European well placed for a title shot - until a badly placed knee in his very next fight.

Ronda Rousey's shocking reaction to brutal Power Slap knockout goes viral

Combat sports legend Ronda Rousey 's eye enlarged and jaw extended as far as it could go, with her hand in front of her mouth, as she witnessed a brutal Power Slap knockout. The UFC 's inaugural Women's Bantamweight Champion was sitting in the front row at Power Slap 13 on Friday night in Las Vegas, watching all the action from mere feet away. It was during the bout between Stunt Marshall and Dontae Smiley where Ronda could not believe what she saw. A left-handed, open-palm blow from Marshall sent Smiley limp, with the resounding contact jarring his head straight into the table separating them and quickly onto the ground. Smiley's body stayed limp while being helped by medical professionals, as he was guided to lie flat on the mat. Rousey's shocked look did not leave her face for several seconds, as she looked to her left to see if others were disturbed by the action as much as she was. It was the Power Slap debut for Marshall, who has a combat-sports pedigree in common with Rousey. Rousey is the only professional wrestler to main-event an all-female premium event, entitled Evolution, and WrestleMania - wrestling against Nikki Bella, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch in those matches. Marshall is an independent professional wrestler, competing mainly in the southeastern United States. Rousey last fought in the UFC in 2016 and left the WWE in 2022, choosing to have a life away from combat sports in recent years. Yet, she could not pick her jaw up off the floor for several seconds after Smiley went down.

Jake Paul vs Chavez Jr fight LIVE: UK start time, results and stream

Jake Paul returns to action later this evening when he takes on former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The YouTuber-turned-boxer has not fought since his controversial showdown with Mike Tyson. Despite failing to get a knockdown in the fight, the 'Problem Child' scored a dominant victory on points. Paul had hoped to return to the ring earlier this year - following sensational reports that the American was finalising a deal to fight Canelo Alvarez in May. However, the Mexican opted to pen a deal with Riyadh Season instead. It has been a rather quiet few years in the ring for Chavez Jr. The 39-year-old - who holds a professional record of 54-6-1-1 - ended a three year hiatus last July when he defeated former UFC middleweight contender Uriah Hall. Paul is hoping that a win over Chavez Jr will earn him several high profile fights going forward, but his upcoming foe will be looking to cause a real upset and hand the 'Problem Child' only his second defeat. Be sure to stay tuned with all the live updates below... Hello everyone and welcome to our live blog for Jake Paul's showdown with Julio Chavez Jr. Tonight's event promises to be an exciting watch - with the card stacked from top to bottom with several big names. As well as the main event, Zurdo Ramirez - one of the world's best cruiserweights on the planet - will defend his world titles against former champion Yuniel Dorticos, and victory could see him her a potential blockbuster showdown with Jai Opetaia later this year. But all eyes are on Paul - who has not fought since his dominant win over Mike Tyson. Tonight marks the American's first fight this year and is planning on a busy rest of 2025 should he come away unscathed against the former middleweight champion.

New Ibrox chairman Andrew Cavenagh has pledged to immediately inject £20million into the football department to help Russell Martin shape his squad ahead of the new season. ‌ Lyall Cameron has joined Gers from Dundee while full back Max Aarons has completed a loan switch from Bournemouth. ‌ And more are expected to follow with Leicester City defender Conor Coady in talks over a move north of the border while the likes of Dor Turgeman and Matija Frigan have been heavily linked. After years of turmoil, the Light Blues now look to be in good hands on the financial side of things, with health tycoon Cavenagh and vice chairman Paraag Marathe now working alongside CEO Patrick Stewart. 49ers Enterprises - who are the investment arm of the famed American Football (NFL) team San Francisco 49ers - also own Leeds United, and are set to splash the cash even further this summer to ensure the Yorkshire team enjoy a successful season back in the Premier League. But reports across the pond also now claim that 49ers chiefs could spent up to $30million (£21.9million) to host six matches at next year's FIFA World Cup. The 49ers will open their doors for six matches at the Levi's Stadium in Santa, Clara, California as the biggest show in town hits North America. Yardbarker state that hosting those games will cost the city $50million (£36.4million) and that 49ers will not be able to use taxpayer money to pay the bill. ‌ They add that in turn, FIFA will contribute $13million (£9.4million) of the overall figure and with the state of California coughing up $7- 8.5 million (£5-6million), the 49ers will have to front the rest of the bill, a total of around $30m (£22m). On top of that, the mega franchise are also in the midst of renovating Levi's Stadium ahead of the finals at reported cost of $200 million (£145.7million). ‌ As well as the World Cup, the Calafornia team will also host the Superbowl on February 8, 2026. It is the first time the Levi's Stadium has hosted the world famous event since 2015 and only the third time the sporting landmark has ever been held in the San Francisco Bay Area.
