Union Minister Manohar Lal hails power sector gains as PM Modi launches green energy projects in Kutch
'We have reached new heights in the field of electricity and power, and made unprecedented progress. There was a time when power cuts were common, but today, despite the huge power consumption, electricity is available for a good 22-24 hours even in villages,' he said while addressing the gathering.
Highlighting the achievements under the current government, the Union Minister noted that India's electricity generation capacity has almost doubled in the past ten years. 'In 10 years, our electricity production has nearly doubled and reached 472 GW,' he said.
Looking ahead, he outlined the government's commitment to scaling up renewable energy output. 'We will speed up our electricity production even more with the use of non-fossil, i.e. renewable energy sources. By 2030, 500 GW of electricity will be produced via renewable sources,' he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi said that Kutch was fast becoming the world's largest centre for green energy. He also laid the foundation for a green hydrogen factory in the region.
'Green hydrogen is a new fuel type, and in the near future, cars and buses will run on it. Today, the foundation stone for a green hydrogen factory has been laid -- and the technology behind it is Made in India,' PM Modi said while addressing the gathering here.
He added that the projects launched would help make India a blue economy and boost port-led development.
'Today, Kutch is the centre of tourism and business. Kutch's role will be much bigger in the future. The foundation stone has been laid for the development projects worth over Rs 50,000 crore. There was a time when the whole of Gujarat would not see such a huge project announcement, and now a district will benefit from such a huge development work. This project will help make India a blue economy of the world and a centre of green energy. I congratulate all of you,' PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister further stated the government's resolve with the launch of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana earlier, stating that every citizen must have access to electricity and that the electricity bill must be zero.
'It is our government's resolve that every citizen should have access to electricity, and their electricity bill should be zero. That is why we launched the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Many people in Gujarat are already benefiting from this scheme. One common factor among many developed nations is that their seas have empowered their growth. Our Port-led Development Vision is inspired by the ancient Indian legacy of thriving ports and maritime history,' PM Modi said.
'My relationship with Kutch is quite old. You also give me so much love that I can't stop myself from coming to Kachchh. When I was not in politics, I used to come here often. I got the chance to roam every corner here...Today, living here has become easy, but the situation was different in the earlier days. When the water of Narmada reached Kutch for the first time, that day was no less than Diwali for Kutch, and it was an unprecedented celebration... Fortunately, you all gave me a chance to contribute to this cause,' he added. (ANI)

Young Indian was engaged in money laundering: ASG Raju tells court in National Herald case
The ASG also cited the individual's statement, according to which, he was asked to arrange Rs 50 lakh and credit it to the bank account of Young India, for which the same amount would be returned to him in cash. Raju started his rejoinder arguments before Special Judge Vishal Gogne, citing a statement from the prosecution complaint where the person had alleged that arranging funds for Young Indian could help in securing a ticket to contest the general elections in April-May 2019. New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) Additional Solicitor General S V Raju on Saturday told a court hearing the National Herald case that Young Indian Ltd was engaged in money laundering, and donating to it helped people secure tickets from the Congress party to contest elections. According to the statement cited by the ASG, the person credited Rs 20 lakh in Young Indian's account and received the same amount in cash. 'Young Indian was engaged in money laundering. Anybody giving donation was given a ticket,' Raju said. He also cited portions of the prosecution complaint where, as per the investigation, some donors made payments to Young Indian on instructions from senior Congress leaders to secure their position in the 'party politics', and that many of these donors were not aware of the objectives of Young Indian. 'Some of the people gave donations on the instructions of senior Congress leaders. They were neither aware of Young Indian nor its objective. Substantial donations were received by Young Indian when its charitable status had been cancelled by the Income Tax department,' Raju said. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has accused Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, late Congress leaders Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes, as well as Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda and a private company, Young Indian, of conspiracy and money laundering over the fraudulent takeover of properties valued at over Rs 2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which published the National Herald newspaper. The ED alleges that the Gandhis held the majority 76 per cent shares in Young Indian, which fraudulently usurped the assets of AJL in exchange for a Rs 90 crore loan. Its chargesheet names Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Young Indian, Suman Dubey, Sunil Bhandari and Dotex Merchandise Pvt Ltd. ASG Raju questioned why Dotex would provide a Rs one crore loan to Young Indian, which was running into losses. 'No valuable asset, no collateral was taken before a loan was given. You (Dotex) are giving a loan to an entity from which the loan is non-recoverable. No security, mortgage, nothing is taken. Dotex is not as clean as projected. Assisting is also an offence,' Raju said. He also said that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had transferred the Rs 90 crore loan to AJL in a clandestine manner and that the 'debt was a facade.' After Raju completed his rebuttal, the court posted the matter for further proceedings on Monday. PTI MNR RT This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Robert Vadra appears before ED in Sanjay Bhandari case
NEW DELHI: Robert Vadra, the businessman husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on Monday for his questioning in connection with the UK-based arms consultant Sanjay Bhandari linked money laundering case, official sources said. The businessman's statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said. The 56-year-old Vadra was called by the agency to depose last month but he had sought deferment of his summons as he had to travel abroad. He is being investigated by the central probe agency in three different money laundering cases, including this one. The two others pertain to alleged irregularities in land deals. The 63-year-old Bhandari fled to London in 2016 soon after the Income-Tax department raided him in Delhi. He was recently declared a fugitive economic offender by a Delhi court. A UK court last month refused the Indian government's application seeking permission to appeal in Britain's Supreme Court against the discharge of Bhandari in an extradition case against him, virtually ruling out chances of his being brought to the country to face the law. The ED had filed a chargesheet in this case in 2023 alleging Bhandari "acquired" the 12, Bryanston Square house located in London in 2009 and got it renovated "as per the directions of Vadra and the funds for renovation were provided by Robert Vadra." Vadra has denied that he owned any London property directly or indirectly. Terming these charges as a political witch hunt against him, he has said that he was being "hounded and harassed" to subserve political ends.
