Texas man given maximum prison sentence for stalking Caitlin Clark
Michael Lewis was arrested last January following an investigation that determined he traveled to Indianapolis with the intent to be in close proximity to Clark, who plays for the WNBA's Indiana Fever. After being questioned by police about traveling from Texas to Indiana, Lewis continued to send messages to Clark.
Lewis, 55, received the maximum sentence for the felony charge, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office told The Indianapolis Star. He also has a no-contact order with Clark for the duration of the sentence and has agreed to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse and all Indiana Fever events, according to court records.

Clark told police in an interview last January that "she has been very fearful since learning of the messages and that she has altered her public appearances and patterns of movement due to fear for her safety," according to the charging affidavit. "Clark stated that she has become very concerned for her safety after learning that Lewis was in Indianapolis. Clark also stated that she doesn't know Lewis and has never responded to any of his messages or posts."
An arrest affidavit for the case detailed more than 15 messages sent from Lewis' X account to Clark, and many of the messages were sexually explicit or violent.
Police discovered Lewis' messages in January had come from IP addresses at a Hilton Garden Inn near Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as well as the downtown Indianapolis Public Library. Lewis' presence in Indianapolis was concerning as he is Denton, Texas, resident, according to the affidavit.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department made contact with Lewis on Jan. 8 at his hotel room concerning the messages, according to police documents. Lewis said the posts that were threatening in nature were not from him and acknowledged, "this is just an imaginary relationship."
Despite the initial encounter with law enforcement, the inappropriate messages from Lewis to Clark continued. The Marion County Prosecutors office announced Lewis' arrest on Jan. 13.
"No matter how prominent a figure you are, this case shows that online harassment can quickly escalate to actual threats of physical violence," Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement issued last January. "It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many don't. In doing so, the victim is setting an example for all women who deserve to live and work in Indy without the threat of sexual violence."
Clark has missed 13 games this season and is currently out with a right groin injury. The Fever (14-12) host the Mercury at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 30.

Carson facility charged for allegedly exposing employees to toxic chemical
A Carson business faces felony charges for allegedly failing to protect its employees from a toxic chemical linked to cancer and other health risks. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office alleged that Parter Sterilization Services attempted to conceal the dangers of ethylene oxide by filing false documents and hiding critical safety risks from regulators. The hazardous gas is linked to cancer, reproductive harm and neurological damage. Prosecutors charged the president of the company and manager of the facility, Hormoz Foroughi and Amine Elmaziati, with failure to disclose a serious concealed danger, forgery, filing a false document, disposal of hazardous waste at an unpermitted site and illegal storage of hazardous waste at a site without a permit. If convicted as charged, they face a maximum of six years in state prison. "This case sends a clear message: If you expose your workers to dangerous chemicals and then falsify records or mislead regulators, we will come after you," District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. "Companies that cut corners and conceal hazards not only endanger lives, they violate the public's trust. We will hold them accountable, and any business that thinks otherwise should consider this a warning." With the LA County Fire Department and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, investigators from the DA's office executed a search warrant at Parter Medical Products Inc. on July 17. Prosecutors asked anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact Assistant Head Deputy Daniel Wright at (213) 257-3001.

Chargers LB Denzel Perryman released from police custody following gun charges
Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman has been released from police custody, and the L.A. County District Attorney's Office has declined to press charges, according to public records. Perryman was released from custody at 2:03 p.m. PT Monday, according to records. Authorities arrested Perryman on Friday for multiple gun violations, the L.A. County Sheriff's department said in a statement. Ron Butler, Perryman's agent, confirmed Monday that charges had been dropped. Advertisement 'We're grateful the matter has been resolved,' Butler said in a statement to The Athletic. 'At this time, Denzel is focused on getting back to his family and teammates.' A spokesperson for the L.A. District Attorney's Office told The Athletic that Perryman's 'case was sent back to law enforcement for further investigation.' Perryman was due to appear at Inglewood Municipal Court on Friday at 8:30 a.m., according to records. In a statement, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said 'South Los Angeles Station deputies conducted a traffic stop' on Perryman at 9:30 p.m. Friday for 'vehicle code violations.' 'During the traffic stop deputies discovered five firearms in Mr. Perryman's vehicle, two of which were assault style rifles,' the statement continued. 'He was arrested and booked on weapons violation charges and was cooperative with deputies.' Perryman was held without bail at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station, according to the statement. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier Monday that he visited Perryman in jail on Sunday. Harbaugh addressed media before Perryman was released from custody. 'He was in good spirits,' Harbaugh said. 'I love Denzel. He's always done right. He's never been in trouble. Got a beautiful family, and we're just letting the due process play out.' Perryman, 32, was drafted by the Chargers in 2015. He spent his first six NFL seasons with the organization before stops with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. He returned to the Chargers on a one-year deal for 2024. He re-signed with the team this past March on a one-year deal.
