WNBA Fans Send Clear Message on Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Ahead of All-Star Game

WNBA Fans Send Clear Message on Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Ahead of All-Star Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is one that has defined the explosion in popularity of women's basketball over the last several years and could continue to do so for decades to come. Advertisement But as far as the debate on who is the more valuable player as of right now, WNBA fans and media members have spoken loudly and clearly. Clark, the Indiana Fever point guard, earned Rookie of the Year honors over Reese in 2024 and led her team to the playoffs. Reese, a front court player for the Chicago Sky, faded in the ROY battle down the stretch, finished the season sidelined with a wrist injury and watched the postseason from home. Clark also earned First-Team All-NBA honors, placing her among the league's elite players, while Reese wasn't relevant in that conversation as a rookie. Reese was on the same All-Star roster as Clark, though she came off the bench and played eight fewer minutes. Advertisement The league is switching up ithe format this year, as the top two vote-getters will serve as captains of the two All-Star rosters. Fan voting will also determine the pool of the eight other starters, from whom the captains will select first, and the pool of 12 reserves, between whom the captains will subsequently select. Clark is in line to be a captain, leading all players with nearly 516,000 votes, per Michael Voepel of ESPN predicted on Friday, June 27, that she will remain in that spot despite having missed six of the team's 15 games to this point due to injury. Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.© Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images "Clark remains an ultra-elite playmaker even when her shot isn't falling," Voepel wrote, noting her current 3-point shooting slump. "And defenses put so much emphasis on covering her that it opens up opportunities for her teammates. She was the early leader in fan voting, which is likely to hold up and put her in a captain's spot." Advertisement Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx is the second-leading vote-getter and in line for the second captain spot. Voepel and Kendra Andrews predicted the eight other All-Star starters, including five front court players, though Reese was noticeably absent from the list. She is currently 13th in fan voting with approximately 137,000 votes and highly likely to earn a spot as a reserve. However, Reese's struggles offensively this season -- 11.3 points per game on 38.5% shooting from the field -- have clearly set her back in the eyes of the fans, both in terms of her All-Star status and in direct comparisons to Clark. WNBA Star Goes Viral For 'Snitching' On Caitlin Clark

WNBA Star Goes Viral For 'Snitching' On Caitlin Clark originally appeared on The Spun. Despite sitting out Thursday night's game, Caitlin Clark still ended up on her opponent's radar. The Indiana Fever announced Thursday that Clark would miss their game against the Los Angeles Sparks due to a groin injury. The severity of her injury hasn't been revealed at this time, but there's a chance she'll miss Friday's game against the Dallas Wings. Advertisement "I think it's very much a day-to-day thing ... how she responds to treatment," Fever coach Stephanie White said. Even though Clark was on the bench for the entire Fever-Sparks game, she had an incredible interaction with Kelsey Plum that went viral. Plum told Clark to take a seat at one point during the Fever-Sparks game. She even let the refs know that Clark has to sit down. Some WNBA fans thought Plum's remarks towards Clark were hilarious. On the flip side, others accused her of snitching on the former No. 1 pick. Ratings would skyrocket," a second fan declared. "She's right, she's not the coach," another fan said. "These two are always fun they'll find their way to each other on the same team one day," a social media user wrote. It's pretty clear that Plum was just messing around with Clark. There's no reason for fans to be critical of her antics. As for Thursday night's results, the Fever fell short to the Sparks. They're now 2-4 without Clark in the lineup. The Fever will meet the Sparks again on July 5. Hopefully, Clark will be available for the rematch. Fever Make Major Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston Announcement Before Wings Game

Fever Make Major Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston Announcement Before Wings Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever are looking to get back to their winning ways on the road against star rookie Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on Friday night, June 27, but they're looking a little beyond that game into the future as well. Advertisement Indiana (7-8) fell below .500 on the season following a home loss to the Los Angeles Sparks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Thursday. The defeat came absent star point guard Caitlin Clark, who missed the contest with a groin strain. It was Clark's first missed outing of the season due to that injury, though a quad strain she suffered against the New York Liberty on May 24 cost her three weeks and five contests earlier in the season. The Fever are now 2-4 in games that Clark doesn't play this year. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Smith/INDIANAPOLIS STAR-Imagn Images Clark will sit out again Friday night, which is unfortunate considering it was to be the WNBA's debut matchup between Clark and Bueckers, who figure to be two of the league's top stars for years -- if not decades -- to come. Advertisement So while it might be a little difficult for Fever fans to get up for a game against a 4-12 Wings team away from home and without Clark in the lineup, Indiana's social media feeds tried to inspire the fanbase to get out the vote for Clark, Aliyah Boston and several of their teammates ahead of the WNBA All-Star Game, which is scheduled for July 19. "Show double the love on our LAST double vote day 🥰 🤩," Indiana posted to its official X account. "Keep voting the squad into the #WNBAAllStar2025 Game right here in Indy📱🖥️ Clark is currently first in fan voting with approximately 516,000 votes, while Boston is in third with nearly 447,000 votes and Kelsey Mitchell occupies seventh place with almost 278,000 votes, per Advertisement Lexie Hull is in ninth place after the first round of voting, while Natasha Howard is in 16th place. A total of 22 players earn spots on the All-Star team, and Sophie Cunningham is currently one spot out of the top-22, sitting in 23rd position. Clark is in line to serve as an All-Star captain, which means she will get to pick one side's roster on July 8 -- assuming she remains in one of the top two fan-voting positions. Meanwhile, Boston is on track to be a starter, per Kendra Andrews and Michael Voepel of ESPN. Kelsey Mitchell drops 32 points as Caitlin Clark-less Fever hold off comeback from Wings, Paige Bueckers

It was comfortable, then tense, then a win for the Indiana Fever without Caitlin Clark on Friday. Led by 32 points from Kelsey Mitchell, the Fever survived a 23-point comeback from Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings to win 94-86 while missing their franchise superstar. Clark was out for a second straight game due to a groin injury. Advertisement The game had the makings of a Fever blowout after Indiana opened the game on a 24-5 run, but the Wings chipped away at the lead for the next three quarters. Dallas took its first lead of the game with 5:29 remaining, only for the Fever to reel off a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach. This article will be updated with more information.

Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark Request After Recent Setback

Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark Request After Recent Setback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever have, once again, fallen below .500 to begin the 2025 WNBA season, falling to the Los Angeles Sparks 85-75 on their home court. Advertisement Now, the Fever will cap off a back-to-back with a Friday night matchup against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. But the Fever could be without All-WNBA point guard Caitlin for a second straight game. Clark was ruled out for the Sparks game after suffering a groin injury late in Tuesday's win over the Seattle Storm. After playing every game in 2024, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star has now missed six games this season. Indiana is 2-4 in those contests. Yet, even with Clark out, the Fever remain supportive of her WNBA All-Star campaign. On Friday, the final day when All-Star fan voting counts twice, Indiana took to social media to request fans to go vote for Clark. Advertisement "almost as sweet as her stepback 🍪😏," the Fever wrote on X. "votes count DOUBLE today, send Caitlin Clark to #WNBAAllStar2025" Clark initially missed five games earlier in the year due to a quad strain. Upon her return on June 14, she went through a three-game stretch of poor shooting, going 1-of-23 (4.3%) from 3-point range before suffering her new setback. Still, Clark has remained one of the top WNBA players over the entire season. Through nine games played, she is averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game. She is tied for the most assists per game in the WNBA with Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas Indiana Fever guard Caitlin ClarkGrace Smith/INDIANAPOLIS STAR-Imagn Images The Fever will face the Wings on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. At the time of this article, it is unclear whether Clark will be able to play. Advertisement The final day for WNBA All-Star voting is on Saturday. The All-Star game will take place on July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (Indianapolis, IN).
