2 Florida men are accused of stealing millions from trust fund for people with special needs
Two Florida men have been indicted in what prosecutors describe as a scheme to steal more than $100 million from a nonprofit that managed funds for people with disabilities and special needs.
Federal authorities this week unsealed an indictment charging Leo J. Govoni, 67, of Clearwater, and John Witeck, 60, of Tampa, with multiple counts including mail fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. If convicted on all counts, they face decades in prison.

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Watching a Georgia trooper take down a fleeing BMW that was allegedly participating in a street takeover is quite satisfying. If you've ever had to deal with the takeover crowd in person, you'd understand takeovers continue to be a problem in Georgia, which is why when Georgia troopers came across one in progress, they chased down various suspects, busting them for participating in the parking lot stunts. While there are plenty of cars fleeing the scene, this trooper in the dashcam footage zeroes in on the BMW 3 Series and locks onto it. We think the missing rear bumper cover might have something to do with it. After all, when fools do their little stunts in takeovers, they inevitably crash into each other or inanimate objects, and sometimes into the people watching, which can damage the car. That might involve the bumper cover getting torn off. So there's a good chance the Bimmer driver wasn't there just watching the takeover but in fact was actively participating, doing donuts, drifting, and in general being a reckless idiot. That's why we believe the trooper locked onto the little German car. Once he does, he pursues the BMW relentlessly and the driver quickly seems to realize he's been singled out. Instead of heading for the main road where he was originally running along with plenty of others from the takeover, he peels off from the pack. The suspect driver speed through the parking lot, trying to use the supposedly superior handling of the Teutonic ride to ditch the trooper. Only, it doesn't work, which we chalk up in part to training trumping just equipment. Performing a beautiful PIT maneuver, the trooper spins the Bimmer into a curb and we think it might have hit a tree, because the airbags deployed. The collision disables the car, allowing the trooper to take the people inside into custody, ending their fun little night. Four people hurt after pickup truck crashes into apartment building in Woodlawn
Four people were taken to the hospital after a pickup truck rammed into a brick apartment building in the Woodlawn neighborhood Saturday morning. The crash happened near Marquette and Langley, leaving debris and bricks inside and outside the building. Sources tell CBS News Chicago that three people were taken to the hospital in good condition and one in serious condition. A resident, who lives above where the crash happened, described the aftermath. "It's horrific, it's horrific in the inside," Leslie Johson said. "It's torn up, you can't walk to the front. I had to climb through all that debris to get to my family." A neighbor said she had seen this happen before, but not with so much damage. "I didn't expect it to be so much damage because how could one person cause so much damage to one building?" she said. CBS News Chicago has reached out for more information, but has yet to hear back.

Saginaw city councilwoman, former council candidate convicted of election law forgery
A current Saginaw city councilwoman and a recent city council candidate have been convicted of election law forgery charges. Former candidate Eric Eggleston, 53, and current city council member Monique Lamar-Silvia, 64, both of Saginaw, are accused of forging signatures on a nominating petition filed with the Saginaw City Clerk's Office in an unsuccessful bid to get Eggleston on the November 2024 general election ballot for Saginaw City Council. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel alleges that on July 23, 2024, Lamar-Silvia fraudulently signed the names of Saginaw voters to a petition form in an attempt to get Eggleston on the November ballot. Nessel accuses Eggleston of then signing the petition form and submitting the forms to the city clerk's office later the same day. Eggleston was not allowed on the ballot. The two were charged in January. Lamar-Silvia was convicted Friday of one count of conspiracy to do a legal act in an illegal manner, one count of election law forgery, one count of signing a nominating petition with multiple names and one count of signing a nominating petition with a name other than her own. Eggleston was convicted of one count of conspiracy to do a legal act in an illegal manner, one count of election law forgery and one count of signing a nominating petition as a circulator when he was not the circulator. "Forging signatures on nominating petitions undermines our democratic process," said Nessel in a statement. "I am pleased the jury recognized the seriousness of these offenses. These convictions serve as a strong reminder that no one is above the law, and my office remains committed to upholding our election laws to protect the will of voters." Eggleston and Lamar-Silvia will be sentenced on Aug. 20.
