New Google Pixel 10 ad calls out vague timing on "coming soon" features—was that a shot at Apple?

With the Pixel 10 series set to launch on August 20, Google has kicked off its marketing campaign with a pointed new ad. In the video titled "Google Pixel 10 | Soon," the company questions what "soon" really means — and who can be trusted to deliver new features on time. The ad says: "If you buy a new phone because of a feature that's coming soon... but it's been coming soon for a full year... you could change your definition of soon. Or you could just... change your phone." While Apple isn't named, the message seems to target the company's delayed rollout of its "Apple Intelligence" features. See the video below and judge for yourselves who this message is directed to: Apple introduced its new AI platform in mid-2024, promising tools like better Siri responses, writing help, and smarter system suggestions. However, most of these tools aren't widely available yet. Many are still marked as "coming in 2025" and won't be part of the first iOS 26 public release. Google, by contrast, included advanced AI tools beginning with the Pixel 8 series through Gemini Nano, and continued to do so with the Pixel 9 series. Now, with the Pixel 10 lineup coming soon, Google is expected to build on that even further. In fact, leaks suggest features like "Magic Cue" for smart prompts, upgraded AI photo tools, and deeper Gemini integration are on the way. Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly trying to catch up. There are rumors the company may acquire DarwinAI, a Canadian startup, to boost its AI development — among other AI companies such as Perplexity, etc. Apple has also been reportedly working more closely with OpenAI to support features in iOS. From a bigger picture view, Google seems confident it's ahead when it comes to AI on phones. Apple may still dominate in sales, but Google is clearly trying to position the Pixel 10 as the smarter choice for those who care about AI now, not later. I think it's good to see Google speak more boldly about what it brings to the table. The Pixel 10 will need to back it up with useful features, which is yet to be determined, but it's a sign that Google is ready to compete more seriously with Apple — especially when it comes to the future of AI on smartphones.

Verizon might soon make it up to customers for unwelcome changes

Verizon has made a flurry of unwelcome changes recently. From raising prices to removing discounts and perks, the carrier appears hell-bent on trying to get you to pay more. That doesn't necessarily mean that it intends to drive customers away, and this may partly be a restructuring of how it Verizon customers were hooked up with loyalty discounts to convince them not to leave. This lowered their monthly bills, and based on word of mouth, the strategy was successful in making disgruntled customers stay. That's why Verizon has caused something of an uprising, at least online, by revoking the loyalty discount. It doesn't help that many customers financed phones through the carrier after receiving the loyalty discount, so they can't leave without paying off their devices now. Naturally, customers are simmering with anger, with many plotting to leave. Verizon doesn't seem to care though, and doesn't intend to keep rates stable to retain price-sensitive customers. After all, high postpaid churn in Q1 and Q2 didn't drag down Verizon financially, which explains why it isn't afraid to lose even more customers. That's not to say Verizon has suddenly turned its back on what it views as unprofitable customers. Apparently, the company will soon introduce a new version of the loyalty discount. Everything is up in the air right now, but the new offer might end up being better than the current one. —Oderint, Reddit user, August 2025 On the other hand, it's also possible that the discount will be worth less than what it is right now. In that case, customers would still be worse off, but at least they would still save on their monthly bill. This information was seemingly passed from a sales representative to a customer. Some suspect that it was just a tactic to retain the customer, since it makes no sense for Verizon to discontinue a discount only to replace it with something similar. One alleged representative even said that the sales staff isn't usually aware of discounts before they are officially announced. Either way, if you are on the fence about leaving Verizon , you might want to wait around a bit and see if this rumor materializes. After all, Verizon has one of the best networks in the US, which is why many people continue to stay with it despite its unpopular decisions.

All-new Galaxy Watch 8 is definitely worth checking out after Samsung & Amazon's latest offers

If you're a Samsung fan looking for a new smartwatch and aren't into extreme stuff like rock climbing, mountain biking, and so on, chances are you're eyeing either the Galaxy Watch 8 or the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic — Samsung's latest and greatest smartwatches for non-outdoor aficionados. While the Classic model definitely looks fancy, you probably lean more towards the regular variant, especially if you want to spend as little as possible and don't go on gala evenings or business meetings all that often. And if the Galaxy Watch 8 is on your radar, now is a great time to act fast and get one on Trade-in $149 99 $349 99 $200 off (57%) Trade in an eligible device to save up to $200 on the Galaxy Watch 8. Bundle it with a pair of Galaxy Buds to save on the add-on as well. In case you don't have a device to trade, you can still save $50, which goes as an extra discount toward the Galaxy Buds. Act fast and save while you can! Buy at Samsung Gift While the Galaxy Watch 8 isn't discounted on Amazon, you can score a $50 promotional credit with your purchase by redeeming promo code APSUE5MBXB6Y. You can use the $50 credit to get something else on the platform for free. Buy at Amazon By trading in an eligible device, you can shave up to a whopping $200 off this bad boy's price. You can also bundle it with a pair of Galaxy Buds 3 or Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and score a sweet discount on the earphones as well. But even if you don't have a device to trade, you can still score $50 in the form of Samsung Instant Credit, which translates to the earbuds, lowering their price even further. So, we'd say this deal is perfect if you want to upgrade your wrist game and your listening experience for less. Alternatively, you can get a Galaxy Watch 8 on Amazon, where you can claim a $50 promotional credit to use toward something else on the platform. So while the watch isn't discounted, you can still score some savings by getting it from deal you choose, we don't believe you'll have any buyer's remorse. We reviewed Samsung's latest timepiece, and we must say we were quite pleased by how sleek it looks and how lightweight and slim it feels. Of course, it's more than just a pretty face, as it's loaded with features and boasts all the functionalities you'd expect from a wearable like this. An interesting feature is the new vascular load tracking, which allows the watch to monitor the pressure your arteries are experiencing over time. There's also a new running coach functionality, which turns your Galaxy Watch 8 into exactly that — a coach that builds a plan to help you reach your running goals. On top of that, you also get all the standard bells and whistles Wear OS offers, including fast and easy access to the Google Play Store, where you can download third-party apps. All in all, the Galaxy Watch 8 is definitely worth getting. In fact, its only downside is probably the fact that it delivers just a day to a day and a half of battery life. Still, that's completely normal for a smartwatch like this, and we believe it's something you can get used to, especially since the pros outweigh the cons. So, if it checks all the right boxes for you, too, act fast and save while you can!
